A stormy evening at Spinner’s End.
First Harry Potter art I’ve done in a long time. I have mixed feelings because these characters helped me survive my childhood, but their creator is a garbage human.
~Bella, any time she is about to counter argue with Snape
Bro got icked out lmaoo
Even a prince has summer homework.
I am falling asleep drawing this but I was determined to sketch something today no matter what.
Meddling in, hi, i read the recent ask about snapes parents and i got curious, what is your opinion in why snape kept the house exactly how it was (probably the only change is personal library of magical books), instead of selling and buying a house in a better place? Many fics portray that as just a unsuspecting place for Snape, somewhere he went to hideaway from everybody, without any feeling left related to it (ruined in the 6th book hahaha). Other fics portray Snape proud of his working class origins, in other words he is "half-blood prince", indifferent how anybody thought about him. He returns to it even if its probably emptier and more decadent in the 90s, its a comfort and a harmful place all at once. Also it is the 3nd most popular snogging spot after his Chambers and Potions Class in Hogwarts of any ship existent of Snape 🤣. Anyways, how do you think Snape sees his house and his hometown? Do you think he would bring a date there? 😅 I love your blog 💚
Thank you so much anon! 💚💚💚
I think as an adult he sees this house through a partial lens of ownership to his past and origins ; despite it not being completely devoid of the shame that was ingrained in him both as a child (because he was so poor) and then as a teen (because he was poor AND half-muggle).
We never hear him shit-talk muggle society and we know he despise the use of slurs against muggleborns, so the rejection he might have expressed when he was younger has been dealt with. At least a part of him owns fully his origins. Now does he *like* the house and his hometown?
Eesh? I mean it doesn't look nor feel like a cosy place. For sure the walls and streets are riddled with the ghosts of tough memories but he stayed. Surely it's more complicated than a full-on rejection. Or guilt.
Some people think he stayed and it's a proof that he's 'trapped in his past'. It's possibly part of the reason. But maybe, like many people, he couldn't see himself sell or abandon the house he grew up with. As we age, sometimes the places linked to our childhood suddenly mean a great deal to us. Maybe he finds some sort of comfort in the familiarity of it. Maybe he just can't be bothered to sell it because he doesn't have time and anyway he's only there 2 months a year top. What's the big deal?
I didn't realize his house was such a popular snogging site (but I guess it is part of his private life so it makes sense). Do I think he'd bring a date here? Well. I see two options:
Either he's in full asshole mode 'Oh you want to know me? Well then I'll bring you home and if you don't like it because you expected a castle, you can leave. Good riddance."
Or he just won't. At least not for the first few months.
Personally I think that if he's getting serious about someone, he'll get a tad self-conscious and try to make it look as nice as possible without feeling like a idiot either. I don't see him inviting anyone there (Cissy and Bellatrix came up unprompted and I'm sure he didn't give a damn, same for Wormtail ofc) but the right partner wouldn't care about it anyway.
