Hey there, @twice-in-a-blue-moon, I don’t know if I can explain but I will certainly try!

Basically, there was a one-on-one q&a with Misha today, where he said that, in the pre-covid finale script, he was supposed to be in a celebration at the Roadhouse in Dean’s heaven... not as Castiel, but as Jimmy Novak which is ridiculous and worse of an ending because: 1) It means Cas stayed dead/in the Empty (and thus it was ‘Bury Your Gays’), and 2) Why would JN be in Dean’s heaven? That’s ridiculous at least and cruel at worst.

But then Samantha Ferris, the actress who plays Ellen, the owner of the Roadhouse, said that nor she nor the others were ever asked to be in the pre-covid finale. Here we have a contradiction, because if there’s no Roadhouse people, there’s no Roadhouse party, right? [Oprah gif: so what’s the truth?]

(And as we know, there are very crowded scenes in the finale, so the “we had to cut crowds because of covid” excuse makes no sense)

I sure think a normal amount about how Peggy and Stan in Mad Men were not originally supposed to have a romance and how Jay Ferguson privately decided, against Matthew Weiner’s intentions, that Stan would maybe have a thing for her, and how that (maybe) (after years of subtle effort) changed their storyline.

And I also think a normal amount about how David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves decided between themselves, basically on a whim, before Frasier even started shooting, that it would be fun if Niles and Daphne had a Thing for each other, possibly creating the kernel of one of Thee iconic long-running will-they-won’t-they romance storylines.

And I also think about impostoradult’s meta on the spn finale & on long-running will-they-won’t-they classic tv romance storylines (of the Josh/Donna, Niles/Daphne, Mulder/Scully type) - “I finally figured out why it feels like Supernatural murdered a unicorn” - in which she says:

“There has never been a queer, slow-burn/will-they-won’t-they romance that fits the 100-150 episode paradigm of delayed gratification on TV. . . . . That is a particular kind of TV experience that queer people and queer characters were just 100% shut out of until it was too late. And because of how the TV landscape has changed in the last 10 years, I don’t know that that opportunity will ever come back around in our lifetimes.”

#anyway look it is CLEAR that there are MANY times when the ACTORS decide that they're gonna play romance they're gonna play love on some lev #level.#and that the classic long-running television romances were not necessarily planned that way: the actors hit it off. something worked.#the writers leaned into it. this i think is one of the things US tv does well: it adapts it changes throughout the run.#it (or rather it SHOULD) see what's working and double down on it. and that's clearly what happened with castiel. the character works #and misha had chemistry with jensen.#and they leaned into that a bit. before realising oh SHIT this is WAY too much oh f-#and then it was tooooooo late. oh to be a supernatural cast member today. imagine getting a text from Matt Cohen at like 2am going dudes. TWITTER. imagine Misha and Jensen exchanging new memes and people’s reactions. hearing Mark A Sheppard say they all knew this all along. to be the stunt coordinator who took care of Misha on the day of the filming and said it was arguably the most important scene in the history of supernatural. to see Jensen and Daneel’s reaction when they first learned the Spanish dub broke the NDA before they did. to be the fist fan to ask about it at Jus in Bello next year. imagine -

THE HANDPRINT HITS SO DIFFERENT NOW you guys remember when Jensen shared how excited he was when they came up with the handprint reference? It was a really cool throwback to that time when Cas “gripped him tight and raised him from perdition” or as Hester says, to the time “when Castiel first laid a hand on you in Hell, he was lost” (in love!). And the last time Castiel laid a hand on him, and left a handprint was, you know, after Dean said he loved him too, and Cas was lost (to the Empty cause of love!). It is a literal bookend! Lost twice because he wanted to touch Dean Winchester. Once to Heaven, then to everything.
