I'm literally posting this just to raise awareness for invisible illness. So as many of u know I have multiple illnesses and they produce a fair amount of chronic pain. I slept 4 hours last night and have been up since 5:45am because my entire body feels like it's on fire. You wouldn't know this from looking at my regular selfies I post. Of course I only post photos of myself when I feel / look good. But I think the problem w this is it creates a false image of myself. It makes me appear healthy and "fine". Behind the makeup, behind the clothes, behind the jewelry and hair is a lot of pain. I think we need to normalize a few things. We need to normalize chronic pain and discussion surrounding it because advocating urself isn't the same as complaining. We need to normalize ourselves not being "presentable", or rather, what society expects. My dark circles are very noticeable. My hair is knotted. My skin tone isnt as healthy as it'd look if I had on my foundation, and that's all okay. It's okay! It's okay to not look "healthy" and more importantly it's okay to be sick. Next time ur having a flare up or are having a rough day with your illnesses I challenge you to take a selfie similar to mine, in your natural habitat and post it using the hashtag #SpoonieSelfie and tag me in it if you want. I think it's important we don't feel anymore alone than us folk with illnesses already do.
Went to a christening yesterday 💕🎀
Having bad pain because I unpacked and put together a dresser today, and normally I put on my binder before taking a selfie, but since this selfie is for @spooniestrong selfie Saturday and my scoliosis is the reason I’m not wearing it, I figured I’d leave it off Lou | they/he

Daughter bought me breakfast in bed because she is awesome. Waiting for pain killers to kick in before I get up
Took me all day to cut and color my hair, but I feel halfway human again. 🖒
