Even though no one is talking about it, disabled people will be the group that sufferers tremendously (if not the most) compared to other marginalized groups due to this US election outcome.

If Trump repeals the ACA, insurance won’t cover our medical treatments, aids, or procedures. It’s likely that SSDI (many people’s only source of income) will be taken away, other benefits will have a work requirement that is impossible for most disabled people to meet, educational protections will be removed for disabled students, prices of medication (that we need to live) will go up, the list goes on.

Many of us will die, become extremely ill, and/or become homeless due to even just the repeal of the ACA and removal of some SS/SSDI (many people’s only form of income). It’s uncertain what exactly is going to happen and when, but disabled Americans are going to suffer. Please be aware of what’s happening to us these next 4 years, try to advocate as much as you can, and support your disabled and chronically ill community members (since the federal government obviously will not).

You ever think about how there was a bipartisan bill in Congress to unfuck the shitty savings cap on disability, which would have been huge for the people on SSI in the US who live in poverty because of it, but it was killed by ONE ASSHOLE.

The Center for American Progress interviewed disabled people who had been through the American Ninja Warrior obstacle course that is the bureaucratic process of applying for disability benefits. If I may summarize their experience in one sentence, it would be: The dehumanization is the point.

These folks described how they were treated like criminals and frauds; evaluated by unqualified medical professionals; judged by people who had no idea what their disability entailed; and how they spent money they didn’t have on lawyers just to access basic ADA protections.

crazy how I try to speak as a disability advocate online but irl I'm made to feel like an actual piece of garbage on a daily basis by ppl around me

people always act like it's a "gotcha" when they find out I'm disabled... like "omg you're such a cool, smart and talented person!! I really like you- ooooohh..... okay.... I get it now.."

it's like they're looking for the catch and then when they figure out its that I'm disabled suddenly I'm fucking worthless even though for some god damn reason they were putting me on a literal pedestal 2 seconds beforehand

I truly am an anomaly because I have licenses and experience in 3 separate, and all highly esteemed careers, I am a talented artist, I have interesting hobbies, I have lots of animals, and focus my life mission around helping animals, I try my hardest to be kind and generous, but I can't even keep a job or maintain relationships because I'm disabled and that makes everything else null and therefore I am worthless LOL

MY ATTORNEY WROTE A BRIEF TO THE JUDGE FOR MY SSDI CASE AND THEY'RE APPROVING ME WITHOUT A HEARING 😭 THIS HAS BEEN THE LONGEST AND WORST FOUR YEARS OF MY LIFE BUT THERE'S FINALLY LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL 😭

Gotta love when SSDI comes back and says, "Hey, we have to make sure you're still disabled even though you literally came in in a rollator for the review. We just think you're going to improve even though you have a million chronic illnesses. We DEFINITELY think you can work by now, so go ahead and take 3 hours to fill out this form even though you told us you have concentration issues and can do almost nothing for yourself." I'm going to cry. Form is submitted but now I'm back to being in freakout mode.
