Back in the ironstrange kick. I had stopped drawing them because someone kept reposting my work (specifically all the mpreg stuff) but idc anymore. Here is that one meme
(Written for @azure7539arts, who constantly encourages my ridiculous little spits of headcanon and who also deserves nice things)
See, like
Stephen's hands do work. It's not quite the same as it was (it'll never quite be the same), but he does get by. Meanwhile, there's Tony - Tony who also has a surgeon's hands, really, which he employs on machinery with delicate components and hair's breadth wires, rather than people with delicate organs and fine-line veins, but which fill an essentially similar function
Tony, who doesn't like being handed things
And at first it irritates Stephen because what the fuck? There was a time when Stephen would have killed (quite possibly literally) to be able to take something from someone and be sure he wouldn't drop and break it and embarrass himself. And Tony just - won't? Just because?
"I don't like being handed things," he says. Like that's enough. Like that even means anything. What the hell does that even mean?
Stephen thinks about it. Tries to figure it out, because that's what his brain does - it's restless and detail-oriented and stubbornly curious. He thinks about it and he watches Tony and he doesn't really get very far, but what he does figure out is that "I don't like being handed things" is socially acceptable shorthand for "If I have no choice but to accept an item from a stranger, it gives me severe anxiety"
He doesn't quite manage to ferret out the why, but he does notice Tony's perfect mechanic-surgeon hands shaking when he can't avoid taking a file from an incredibly persistent researcher in the R&D department
So maybe Stephen doesn't get the problem, but if it's posing an issue, it has an easy fix, doesn't it? Sure, why not. The next time someone tries to hand Tony something, all Stephen has to do is reach out his own hand and say "I've got it"
Tony blinks over at him, mouth hanging open and halfway to asking the barista to just put the cup of coffee on the counter. The barista blinks over at him, a little startled by the abrupt statement, but she looks over at Tony, who just shrugs and says "I guess he's got it"
And Stephen does have it. He's more than steady enough to handle a cup of coffee, after all
He puts it down on a table and Tony picks it up, takes a sip, and grins at Stephen even as he hisses at the heat of the coffee. And that's that
Tony is surprised the next time, too, but after that, Stephen seems to have been designated the official recipient of items meant to be handed to Tony Stark, if he happens to be around. Some of the assistants and researchers and various sundry heroes don't even think about it, they just hand the thing to Stephen and nod at Tony.
If it does give someone pause, Tony will always just gesture over to Stephen. "Give it to the wizard," he’ll say, "he's my hands today."
And Stephen would be lying if he said it didn't give him a little thrill of satisfaction every time
Stephen: Sometimes, I wonder why I'm living with you.
Tony: [looks at him with a raised eyebrow] Well, it's like all totally modern and casual these days, but I think spouses should share houses.
Stephen: Ah, yes. There is that.
do you ever stop for a moment to think about how ironstrange had so much potential and get angry because mcu really snapped the idea off like a filthy scumbag or are you normal???
,,,can you imagine,,, Stephen carrying Tony,,, in his arms,,,, cloak all flared up behind him,,,, bridal style,,, just things one does when one has a tiny husband
And Tiny is like,,,, babe your goatee needs a trim if it wants to be as iconic as mine ,,,, heheh smirk smirk tiny
So Stephen just nuzzles him
AND YEETS TONY
“You don’t have to carry the weight of the world all by yourself, you know?”
“You don’t have to carry the weight of the world all by yourself.”
Tony laughs at first, laughs at the absurdity of Stephen’s words. He leans back and his beautiful wizard touches him, delicate, scarred fingers just barely brushing over his scalp. It feels wonderful and the stress that had built up in his neck and the curves of his shoulders just melts away.
“I don’t,” Tony murmurs, but he knows that’s not quite true. Every problem the team has faced, every pain, it’s all been on him. From the smallest problem (Clint’s arrows not having enough range) to the biggest (the end of the goddamn universe), he has taken it upon himself to make things better.
“I don’t mean to...” he adds, as he knows he can’t lie to Stephen. He lays his head on his beloved’s lap and looks up, meeting those beautiful eyes upside down.
“You’re not alone Tony. Let me carry some of it.”
If you think I’m not already planning three different fics just over these threee pictures you’re wrong
Bruh, do people understand how unbelievably annoying it is to type in the hashtag Superfamily or Superhusbands and see Ironstrange posts when I’m in fact looking for Stony? I’m all for happy fandoms and ish but seriously???
Look, Ironstrange is adorable okay, ain’t nobody denying that, and Stephen and Tony and Peter as a family are hella cute as well, but I feel like respecting fandom hashtags and labels are just BASIC ETIQUETTE. Superfamily and Superhusbands had already been established for stony. I’ve literally never seen this shit happen before in my many years of fandoming (if you will), and I hate that it’s happening here. It could be called Supremefamily. It could be called Supremehusbands. It could be called Stony Can Suck My Ass for all I care but it’s just plain rude???? To steal a damn name???
I don’t hate Ironstrange, it’s not my favourite ship (that’s stony for me) but I enjoy multi-shipping and it has it’s good qualities. BUT, some people have notps okay, and that notp for them could be Ironstrange, it can’t be denied that it’s a possibility. So, this situation is taking away people’s abilities to not look at what they don’t like. That thing? That saying on the internet? If you don’t like it, don’t look?? Y’all can’t even do that here! Because! It’s the same name!!
And I’m sorry but Ironstrange and Ironstrange + Peter isn’t here to replace Stony and Stony + Peter. People aren’t chucking Stony out to the garbage bin just cause a new ship appeared, which is what this misnaming thing seems to be implying (not saying that it is for sure, but it sure feels like it). Ironstrange is its own separate, fabulous and wonderful ship that exists in the marvel universe in tandem with stony, that some people might not ship. Same thing with stony! I get that some people might not ship stony, and that’s entirely fine, so I try my best to tag things properly. It’s a little thing and it’s hardly a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but it’s the small things in fandom that might make it unwelcoming for some people.
