Antisemitism and Anti-Zionism at Syracuse University, by Justine Murray

The Student Association argued, in part, that the IHRA definition of antisemitism threatens free speech because it includes anti-Zionism — or opposition to Israel’s existence as a sovereign state — to be a form of anti-Jewish sentiment. As many have pointed out, the IHRA definition does not stifle free speech.

Still, free speech was not a concern for the Student Association last summer, when they sat silent as anti-Israel zealots on campus waged a smear campaign against a Jewish professor, trying to get her fired because she is a Zionist. They only protected the free speech of those who sent emails to her school account, calling her a “subhuman savage,” calling Judaism a “racist cult,” and stating “F— Judaism, F— your Torah and Talmud.”

No expressions of concern were uttered by the Student Association when Jewish students who supported the professor were targeted with death threats and doxxing on social media. In fact, some of the ringleaders of the smear campaign and those launching attacks on the professor’s supporters sit on the Student Association and voted against the IHRA proposal.

Apparently, the Student Association is for free speech and tolerance only when its members agree with what is being said. All others, particularly Jewish students, must beware.

Hello lovelies! Back at my lil round table. I got the draft done yesterday, and just finished revising it this morning. Will probably need a rewrite but I'm giving it a break for now, since I have enough time to do that and it can be good to ⁣ Now, I need to get work done for the LGBTQ+ Association I help run at my uni. I am publicity officer, and we have history month coming up, so today I am going to look over our events list and: sort out a social media schedule for all the publicity + a list of all the publicity that needs making. We are currently without a secretary so I am also taking on that job and I'm going to have to go through and find all the paperwork that needs doing for our events, and make a calendar with that as well, listing all due dates and who needs to do what.⁣ Featured on the picture we have my laptop, film of stickers, my bujo opened to my weekly spread (a messy but cute one this week, if I say so myself) and my cup of coffee for the morning 😊

[Day 8 of 100 days of productivity]°•°•°•°☆ Aug. 29, 2017. (-4) Today was jam packed with busy classes plus a test, 2 interest meetings, and an interview. I'm very pleased to say although I had very stressful points in the day it all went over rather well. I felt prepared for my test, I got all my assignments in by their due dates, and I really enjoyed my interview and felt like it went great. I'm looking forward to what else they will bring on with the school year, because I'm feeling up to the challenge. Life update: I finally went to the doctor, yay! They prescribed me with a whole lot of medicine for my cold and I'm hoping I get back to my old self with in the next two days. I got my voice back which is good and i even kept pace in my marching rehersal (I was physically struggling yesterday). I look forward to seeing what tomorrow brings.

[30.07.2020] Day 1/60 - back again! Association Admin and Self-Education: Transformative Justice

I have returned to studyblr! I have a lot of things to do in not so much time this summer, not to mention the completly unprecedented times we are living in. I'm doing 60 days of productivity (instead of 100) because that's what I have left of summer before I go back to university.

This was a picture taken early this morning, as I sat down with my coffee to tackle quite a few tasks! I am chairing a committee meeting tomorrow for which i need to prep - the Association is doing a full review of it's structure, which requires a lot of reading and educating ourselves, especially as we seek to center the voices of those most marginalised.

So, this morning I put together everyone's opinions on the ongoing committee structure and constitution discussion, collating notes from two months of discussion. Then I had lunch with my family, and finished up some more admin for the association.

After that I took a break and dedicated some time to my two blogs. I will be returning to my Association work later today, to research Transformative Justice and how to apply it to members relations and incidents at our events, since unfortunately things don't always go smoothly.
