hi! I'm in year 11 at the moment and am thinking about studying engineering at university (not necessarily chemical though). what a levels did you take / are there any that you would reccommend?thank you :)
At AS Level I took Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Maths and Further Maths, although I dropped Biology at A2 (I’m not sure how this works now that they’ve changed science subjects to be ‘linear’)
I would definitely recommend taking Sciences / Maths for Engineering, although obviously some subjects are more suited to certain disciplines of Engineering, i.e. chemistry is required for chemical engineering but is not necessary for other types of engineering.
Always check with the universities you are considering as a lot of them have specific requirements; for example many of the unis I looked at ‘strongly preferred’ Further Maths (which basically meant it was required if it was offered at your school), and not choosing the right subjects can close a lot of doors, so be careful!
This being said, make you above all that you choose subjects you enjoy! I didn’t enjoy my Year 12 experience as much as some of my peers as I took five subjects as therefore had a very heavy workload, the only thing that kept me going was the fact that I enjoyed all five of my subjects.
