Phillipe feels like the True Route for The Niflheim. By ‘true route’ i don’t mean “The Only Acceptable Route” or necessarily my own personal favourites, but i mean, the one which canonically seems to make the most sense, or seems to be favoured by the writers/creators regardless of fan favourites. I just feel like if The Niflheim had one of those, it’d be Phillipe.

Some would argue that Jean might be the true route, because you’re engaged to him, but Phillipe actually has history with us, and not in an annoying “childhood friend who wants to guilt trip you into a romance’ way. I Love Jean more, and JJ just as much though, but Phillipe’s route does a whole lot with itself and i appreciate the dramatic elements in it that differ from the imminent dangers of JJ and Jean’s routes which were more physical chaos based than emotional (the pumpkin prince mutating and the actual bloody war etc)

Also... i’ve seen some people comment on how Randy/Serge feels like Wizardess Heart’s “true route” because he was the main character’s idol and inspiration to attend the academy in the first place. She mentions him in every single route, including his own, and by the end of his route you discover the truth about why he had ‘disappeared’ which is an event mentioned in some other routes before him (or more specifically almost all of the routes that preceded him)

Some people may think that Joel also could fit the bill for similar reasons in regard to the academy, because in his route there’s an added layer of motivation for her to join the academy. But Serge came first, and the king of fairies mystery series isn’t as strong as the spring of the unicorn series was. (or so the statistics would suggest, fandom wise)

A lot of people seem to agree Ayu feels like Destiny Ninja 2′s “true route”, not just because of the engagement plot, but also the first princess’s actual romance with his ancestor too. I know that I said that Jean from the niflheim shouldn’t count just because they’re engaged, but Ayu and Jean are not even in the same food group and therefore are not comparable. (Jean is more like Ran, and not just because he has funky eyes and white hair.)

I prefer Yayoi over Ayu a LOT though, and after having played with Ran, Shiroya and Yayoi i’m kind of deflated/let down about how predictable Ayu’s route was in the end.

Blood in Roses isn’t as easy to peg who would be the ‘true route’ because whilst it’d be nice and easy to just go with Alfred since his route is one of the more predictable ones, and goes along with Harold’s will without a hitch, I kind of like to think Spade’s route might fit the ‘true route” criteria because it includes evidence of all the other routes failing and the time loop plot makes the whole game look a lot more deep than it really is. They really thought out Spade’s route, and what a heck of a season 1 finale-route for it to be.

For the Oz game, whilst i haven’t played many of them, it’s clear that Crowlie is the one that fits the bill. Now, i actually resent that because I thought the first third of his story was quite bland and run of the mill. However, it’s true to a degree based on the old film and in other adaptations, that Dorothy almost always has a softer spot and a closer bond with the scarecrow of each incarnation. He is with her the longest during her journey, he is made out to be more interesting, and is always somehow the ‘leader’ of the trio of men. One of my favourite lines in the old musical film is when Dorothy tells him that she’ll miss him the most <3
