New Plymouth Tai Tais round up a day of makan at Istana Malaysia. Danny and Mary Arulandu have been operating Istana for the past 24 years in this venerable old gracious building on Allen Street, Te Aro. Our Tai Tai Makan Kelab had chicken satay, roti curry, Indian rojak, sambal fish, mee goreng, Beef rendang (not pictured) and rounded up the boisterous evening with roti tisu and teh trail/teh halia. Aunties thought the roti tisu could have achieved a more spectacular height (like in Kota Kinabalu) and the teh tarik/teh halia was curiously salty. We raised this with co-owner Mary. Suffice to say the teh tarik will be non-salty from now on.
