The One Year Anniversary of Me, Beginning to share A Warden And A Crow with all of you on AO3!

I’m so excited to have been writing and sharing this fic chapter by chapter with all of you for A WHOLE YEAR! I wrote just over 40,000 words on AO3 for the fic in 2025, and I’m excited to see how many more I add this year.

To start off with a bang and celebrate the first year with all of you, I have A TON of plans for today! I have chapterS (yes, that “s” belongs there!) to share throughout the day! I have lore drops! I have plans to share! I have drafts to clear out of my terrifyingly long Tumblr drafts list! I’m hoping to have a super fun day!

The first thing I want to share is a SURPRISE! I wanted to spend time in the Character Creator for this, but it became clear quickly that I wouldn’t have the time to dedicate to that (yet) so I adjusted my expectations for myself and used a more accessible tool at my disposal — the dress up game I’ve used to create AU Naimys (Naimies?) in the past. Amaya Corix

It’s actually insane to me that at her inception, Amaya was a throwaway character to build out Naimeryn’s backstory, and I had no plans for her beyond that. She quickly developed beyond that (she’s got Main Character Syndrome, so I suppose it’s unsurprising), and now she’s in multiple AUs and has a more pronounced role in AWAAC (and perhaps a juicy surprise in store? 👀)

For anyone who hasn’t read the snippets in which Amaya is mentioned, Amaya Corix is a Tevinter Mage who came to Weisshaupt and participated in the Joining at the same time as Naimeryn. The two initially felt animosity towards one another, and were something like rivals for a time. Eventually, Amaya’s backstory is revealed — the well-to-do younger daughter of a powerful magister, Amaya had been leaking information to the Shadow Dragons to assist with efforts to free slaves across Minrathos… including those within her own house. To save face with the other magisters and not admit her involvement, her parents shipped her off to join the Wardens, spinning the heroic take of the little girl off to save the world rather than the “shameful” truth. Eventually, Amaya and Naimeryn become friends, though their relationship continues to be strained by their differences, misunderstandings, and lack of communication exacerbated by extended periods of time apart while Naimy is stuck in Weisshaupt and Amaya goes out on missions.

Given her upbringing, Amaya is hyper-aware of both her appearance and how people perceive her. She maintains a meticulously put-together front at all times — the only time Naimeryn has ever seen that mask crumble was in AWAAC’s prologue. She believes Amaya was too stressed about the punishment undoubtedly coming her way for vouching for Naimeryn to go on that mission to pay attention, but the truth is she was a mess because she thought bringing Naimeryn on the mission had gotten her friend killed. Outside of older family members, it would have been Amaya’s first great loss.

Amaya of course knows what she looks like, but she favors tight-fitting tops, shorts and short skirts, or skirts with high slits for a practical reason as well as aesthetic. Although she is a mage, Amaya also trained in hand-to-hand combat. Her fighting style is fluid and dance-like, so she prefers the highest degree of freedom of movement her clothing and gear can offer her. She’ll only wear her “frumpy” Warden greaves and “uninspired” battle mage armor if required of her.

It was important to me that Amaya have mean girl energy — she’s used to playing the bitch for safety and to be taken seriously. Do we think I nailed the look?

Actually Emmrich got me to the taste. So, how about we simply end this years Pride Month with a few more of our new, upcoming Veilguard Companions. My top 3 so far to be specific. After we already had my dear, sophisticated favorite so far, let me continue with this fine lady.

I already had a big thrill with Neve's shortstory in Tevinter Nights. She has some really cool plot and character, so I am really, really excited, that we're gonna get to know her closer as well in Veilguard. The Gameplay Trailer already was enough to get me really hyped.

Also yyyeee, I might call her female Sherlock already and YES goddammit, I might have listened to fracking Sher-locked on a loop while drawing her. Bite me :P
