Funny thing is that the only slapstick in Hal’s comics has to do with the very concept of being a Green Lantern and being able to make constructs to whack at each other like they’re in Looney Tunes. Hal is far from being an idiot, he’s just impulsive sometimes and lets his mouth run, but he’s fundamentally a brilliant person who cares deeply for others and knows when it’s time to be serious. He just comes off as an ass because he’s a more lighthearted person than his peers and likes quipping in his fights like every single hero who has ever graced a comic has. No clue how this translated into Hal being an idiot, and that somehow extending to Barry?? But I like to blame the DCAMU because that fuckass Justice League origin film is the cause for half of these characterisations.
That’s not even mentioning how extremely powerful Hal is as a Green Lantern, becoming the Spectre — which is one of the most powerful entities in DC — his experience in military secret operations, becoming Will itself and being one of the most powerful JLA members in the entire roster. He may not have an engineering degree anymore, but he can reverse engineer jets and planes purely because he has such in-depth knowledge that it rivals the skill of actual engineers. From memory, he’s also been called the military’s most skilled pilot, and that is a hard as shit to achieve when you realise he’s competing with the entire airforce in America, as well as all the technical knowledge you need to fly a fucking aircraft, especially jets, which are notoriously difficult to pilot. Saying Hal has some of the best knowledge of science when it comes to physics is barely scratching the surface, not to mention how he has enough knowledge about the human body to rewire literal neuron’s in the brain.
