What is your favorite charles Xavier moment and what is your least favorite moment (not counting plain old mischaracterization and bad writing)

Thank you for the ask! And I can think of so many moments I love of his so I’m gonna include a lot and try to specifically add put some lesser known ones in too! I’ll definitely miss quite a few. this will be a long post!

I’ll start off with one of my favorite moments in X-Men legacy. When Charles fought off exodus for hurting a de-powered Max. (including max’s voice being what it took to wake Charles from his coma prior to this)

I love this entire fight and the fact Charles just woke up from being shot in the head and is immediately defending max.

I like this iconic scene where he kills the shadow king.

And I love this entire sequence with Cassandra Nova in grant morrisons run. But specifically this panel.

And of course I adore these panels

I joke about Charles using puppy dog eyes a lot on max here but I actually think these panels are so sweet and intimate. I love it.

Okay now sadder scenes! This entire scene with Cain gives me chills every time. (TW child abuse mentioned)

“But I thought it was my fault that he loved me more then he loved you. I thought I deserved it” “yeah. Me too.”

While on the discussion of Cain this scene from Professor Xavier and the X-Men is another emotional scene of them I adore.

It is so rare to see Charles have an outburst or even let himself feel his negative emotions at all. So seeing him cry because of the abuse he’s endured all of his life gets me. Such a great moment.

Naturally the entirety of uncanny X-Men #309 (some of #308 + unlimited #1 too)

Amazing art amazing moments for Charles and max great analysis of Charles character and amazing story about childhood abuse and how it affects you and your relationships in adulthood.

the garden scene in trial of magneto is always a top ten X-Men scene

This scene is so intimate and romantic. The way max holds him so gently. Charles entrusting max with his students and dream in what he thought were his final moments. One of the best moments for these two and has been said to be the most romantic by al Ewing writer of resurrection of magneto.

Everything to do with him and rogue after red skull took his brain. But these panels especially.

Charles seeing his son David’s fractured mind for the first time gets me

Charles wondering why Gabrielle didn’t let him be in David’s life is another great vulnerable moment.

Less sad but more cute is Charles seeing David’s alter Jack Wayne and realizing David wants to be the same kind of man he did when he was growing up.

This entire sequence where Charles kicks the purple man’s ass with Jessica Jones is so satisfying and amazing.

I love to see Charles have no mercy on an abuser. Also, “oh do be quiet won’t you?” Always makes me laugh. And the flower scene is beautiful.

Now for a funny scene. This scene in first class with Nightcrawler cracks me up.

Poor elf 😭 I love Charles in the first class comics he can be much more lighthearted.

This scene where Charles defeats mastermind was funny because in jeans dream she remembers herself doing it LMAO

“She’s taking credit for the professors fight, that ain’t right.” “I don’t think she means to” CHARLES 😭

Onto some least favorite moments that aren’t just bad writing or ooc. So I don’t hate the scene but hate Charles actions. His entire relationship with gabby is one for sure.

He knew he shouldn’t be with her he said he shouldn’t be with her and what’d he do? Get with her. Charles why 😭

When he was grieving max dying he yelled at ororo and tried to see max’s last words despite them being private, by forcing it via telepathy. that was shitty.

Of course this was acknowledged as an extreme reaction from him but I hated him doing this it was disrespectful to ororo and max.

I saved the best for last. This was just a terrible choice from the writers and artists I think it’s both hilarious and cursed. When charles came back to life before HOX/POX they tried to rename him “X” and had him look like THIS.

LMAOOOO Outside of egregious retcons and writing decisions this is my least favorite Panel of him ever 😭😭 there are definitely more bad moments to find but I’ve ran out of images and can’t think of them for now so I might revisit the concept later. I’m also not taking anything outside of the 616 comics into consideration in this post!

Charles: My brother, the Unstoppable Juggernaut has arrived!

Bobby: You have a brother?

Charles: Step-brother.

Scott: Nevermind that we need to protect the school.

Charles: Don't you want to know his strength and weaknesses first?

Warren: I guess that would be useful.

Hank: Yeah, tell us professor what are his powers?

Charles: It all started when I was a boy. My parents were rocket scientist and-

Jean: How is this relevant?

Charles: Shush! I'm getting there!

Charles:

Charles: Then with his dying breath, Marko revealed that my father's death was really an accident.

Scott: Okay, so Cain's broken through the first line of defense. I say-

Charles: I'm not done yet.

Bobby: What do you mean you're not done yet?

Hank: What are Cain's mutant abilities?

Charles: Mutant abilities who said anything about mutant abilities? Cain's not a mutant.

Warren: If he's not a mutant then how did he get his powers.

Charles: A magic rock.

Jean: Magic rock?

Charles: When I was a teenager I already began to bald. However that did not stop my flourishing academic and athletic career. I had it all and Cain he was jealous, one day...

Charles: And then Cain crashed the car. I managed to survive by telepathically creating a forcefield but I was never the same.

Warren: So that's how you became paralyzed?

Charles: No I didn't become disabled until after the war.

Hank: The war?

Jean: Don't get him started!

Charles: Shortly after the accident Cain and I were drafted into the Korean War-

Scott: Juggernaut just broken through out second defense system. If we don't act now he's sure to kill us.

Charles: Shut up, Scott! Anyway Cain decided to go AWOL. I a true patriot resolved to stop him...

Charles: And then I trapped Cain in the cave, sure he would either suffocate or starve before crawling his way out. Clearly...

Juggernaut *breaks through the wall*: Charles!

Charles: I was wrong.

Scott: This could've been prevented if you got to the point two stories ago. X-Men, let's go!
