Hot take: Celestia Ludenberg is straight. But Taeko Yasuhiro is bi. I'm sorry but taking Celeste at her word on ANYTHING, including "I just love handsome men and only want to be surrounded by them as servants", is ill-advised because the whole point is that Celeste is a fabrication, an OC that Taeko wants to cosplay as forever because she hates herself and wants to be a more interesting person, even if that means being a less moral person. Celeste is also Taeko's "Away, gay thoughts!" mechanism.

while i like the thought of celeste being everything taeko wants to be, i really think we need to take her word for it when she says she only wants men. that would be a weird thing to lie about in context. for some reason people keep trying to twist that vampire servant scene into her being queer somehow and it's just not true. she didn't want any girl, including kirumi, to be her maid in the side games; that's all the proof we need.

Back in December, I made reviews of Survivor's story arcs partly inspired by you (not the style, which is my own, just the idea of openly analyzing and critiquing an ask blog's story in good faith), and I made the note that there's a strong possibility in Kuripa becoming a major endgame villain. I'm relieved to see I'm not the only one who came to that conclusion and that you think it's possible as well. That it's only *possible* and not *certain*, though, is what keeps Kuripa so interesting.

Only Edelcrits are miserable in CF

So, does anyone remember this quote from me?

Now we’re delving straight into, I believe, Crushed Nugget’s Everyone is Miserable in CF set of posts, which is something I’d reeeeeaaaaaally like to dig into sometime, because it’s just a lot of petty and trivial ways to try to demonstrate everybody as being unhappy or less-fulfilled characters in CF.

These can range from the ever-popular “Lysithea doesn’t want to destroy the Empire in CF”, to “Yuri feels overworked in CF”, to “Raphael is irresponsible and happy in CF”, to “Ingrid is sadge in CF”. Yeah, being happy is bad if in CF and being unhappy is also bad if in CF.

It’s basically just her plucking at literally anything she can find to say that CF is bad in that exact moment without any regard for consistent standards. Ignatz’s is especially amazing given you know if the paintings he drew were reversed she’d instead say VW Ignatz is good for wanting to immortalize the horror of war so we never forget what war takes from us while CF Ignatz is bad for trying to cover up the pain with pretty pictures of something.

I said I didn't really wanna address it myself because it'd take a lot of time... but luckily @themattress has me covered! I can't directly reblog their post because Crushed Nugget has me blocked, but I link to it here:

Agree. It’s seems like Amity may have experienced events different than Willow. Also, since Amity seems to be a very private and aloof person (with perfectionist tendencies) she doesn’t come across as helpful, caring or friendly but it might not mean she means badly.

Another thought, but I wonder if there’s competition in her family. Particularly around...mm...being the most skilled. If you’re not going to be the best, why bother?or waste the time? So, could her dismissiveness toward Willow be related to a sentiment that unless you’re going to exceed, best cut the bud of ambition before it blooms?

Additionally, maybe in Amity’s family the more competent you are at magic, the more good faith is bestowed on you. In her journal, Amity mentions how she can’t understand why no one else sees what Edric and Emira are like, and maybe she’s trying to be as good as a witch as she can to gain...status, leverage. Does she think if she’s more skilled, she’ll be believed more?

Thus far, we have no hard evidence that Colin’s alleged script was real. If it was, then it’s no wonder he and DLF parted ways over “creative differences”. That still doesn’t excuse Chris and JJ from being incompetent hacks with fucked up ideas of what “hope” or positive messages are and no respect for the characters and their arcs or the audience’s intelligence and ability to pick up on blatant logical fallacies, plot-holes, and retcons.

Also: Barret never founded Avalanche; in Cosmo Canyon in the original game he confirms it existed before him. The REAL issue BC causes is having Avalanche be responsible for what happens to North Corel by blowing up the reactor that Shinra blames the people of Corel for…and yet Barret joins them anyway even when they are just as culpable as Shinra? HUH!?

barret says he founded avalanche IN cosmo canyon after learning shit there, but it was always his.

the issue BC causes is that it feels the need to have avalanche in a villainous position at all given it was initially an ill-equipped resistance against a murderous megacorporation, but crisis core then forced them to have shinra be “good guys” and by contrast decided to do that not through any actual grey morality but by having the same hamfisted tired “okay but the protesters did some bad things too you guys”. the corel thing is part of it, sure, but it’s more representative of a wider issue that plagues the whole game to begin with.

like, i hate to dragon age on main, but remember that bit in inquisition where out of nowhere in a need to pull some “both sides have a good point” garbage in what should be a pretty cut and dry issue, it turns out that the elf lady had her own people assassinated? it feels like that.

(i should also mention the only reason square is deepthroating the boot this hard is because they already committed to “soldier and the turks are good actually! it’s just the president/hojo that’s bad!!” and now they can’t exactly walk that back when they made a whole damn game about it based around the assumption that the audience is too dumb to want any kind of actual intent beyond their surface level symbolism)

divorcing barret from avalanche is a twofold issue: one, obviously it writes barret out of the story and removes his agency as a character, which is bad. and two, it removes any sort of grey morality tied to an actual character we’re meant to care about and see as a “good guy”, which has far-reaching consequences of changing what avalanche is on a deeper level than just “barret’s terrorist resistance group”
