To promote the box office bomb Allegiant of the Divergent trilogy-turned-quadrilogy, restaurant Johnny Rockets worked with studio Lionsgate to add a few themed items to their menu for a limited time in 2016. The menu release also coincided with a Johnny Rockets Allegiant sweepstakes whose grand prize flew winners out to Hollywood for the movie premiere.

For food, they offered:

The Defiant Smoked Gouda Burger, a toasted brioche bun burger with lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions, smoked gouda cheese, and peppered steak sauce,

The Bleu Bacon Allegiant Burger, a toasted brioche bun burger with bacon, tomato, mesclun, mayonnaise, and bleu cheese crumbles,

And the Cheddar and Bacon Chicken Rebellion, a toasted brioche bun chicken sandwich with smoked cheddar cheese, garlic aioli, bacon, lettuce, and tomato.

They also had a singular drink option, the Dauntless Brownie Brittle Shake, a vanilla shake with fudge, chocolate, and whipped cream, as well as a whole brownie on top.

Here's hoping the tie-in menu options did better than the film.

I came across this one in real life completely by accident. There was a Johnny Rockets at the mall food court I frequented and I happened to sit down and eat there while this was going on. I'm not a burger person, so I just had the shake, which I remember being decent. Even then, I thought it was an odd choice for a themed menu, but I don't work at Lionsgate, so what do I know?

Attack on Titan x Yokohama Royal Park Hotel ~Room Service Course Dinner~

This is the last of the Attack on Titan in Yokohama posts, I hope those following along could enjoy it! An evening room service Shingeki themed dinner course was included in the room plan we chose!

Let’s take a look at what is included in the “Dedicate Your Appetite! Attack on Titan Plate”menu!

Stewed beans eaten by Gabi and Falco served with human shaped croutons.

The meat the potato girl (Sasha Braus) bit served with steamed potatoes and the symbol of the founder Ymir represented by baked apples.

The pound cake made from the black tea that Captain Levi liked.

Niccolo’s recommended wine and grape juice.

Bread that resembles the snap blade. ( We were trying to figure out what this was and it finally hit us that it’s the blade the survey corps uses😆)

It was a delicious and fun dinner! I actually wish there was an option like this themed room and dinner for when USJ does it’s Cool Japan events!

The Academy Awards x Greenhouse Viewing Party Menu

This Sunday, it’s the 94th Academy Awards, and this year, the hosts are back! We’re using that as an excuse to play host ourselves — a viewing party, complete with a themed plant-based menu.

Don your tux or designer dress, then roll up the sleeves and get stuck in! (Just try not to chop or mix too vigorously, or you may undo that perfectly coiffed hairdo).

We do, however, support inventiveness in the kitchen, and so to pay homage, we’re serving up another rather unconventional pizza tonight — Cauliflower Crust Green Pea-zza.

Attack on Athletic Courses: Muscle Monster 2019

Posting swole EreWan I just realized I have had these photos from Muscle Monster in my drafts for such a long time and never got around to sharing them. Last last summer, it feels like so long ago now, the child and I trekked over to Lake Sagami Pleasure Forest to attempt the Muscle Monster Athletic Course and Shingeki collaboration. There was adventure and drama and fun and we could go outside normally!

It was pretty far for us, about 2 and a half hours travel time. So we got there a little later than we wanted too and arrived an hour or two after opening. It was quite a walk with many stairs to climb but we could see the attraction in the distance and pushed forward!

Of course we were excited to go shopping too! But! Almost all the goods were sold out except for cookies and the canvas boards! It was the first day and just a few hours into opening so understandably people were pretty angry about it. Luckily a really sweet person who was a friend of someone we knew was super kind and hooked us up with an Eren acrylic keychain.

After that we headed to the main attraction to meet with a friend and to do the course!

There were so fun photo spots outside!

The course itself was pretty challenging! Also in some points a bit scary because of the height and open air! But it was also so much fun and we enjoyed the different photo points you could print with Shingeki backgrounds after finishing the attraction.

After the attraction we went to the restaurant to enjoy the themed menu! You could receive coasters with the event design and a really nice plastic lunch mat as well!✨

The view was so beautiful both while doing the attraction and when walking around! It was all in all a really fun time!

Attack on Titan Chronicle Collaboration Menu and Merch

The SNK Chronicle movie has been out for a few weeks now and while there wasn’t any cinema merch for the release there was a small karaoke collaboration. Because of Covid concerns we initially were not really going to try it but we passed by it on the street by chance and take out was an option so we gave it a try!

You could choose from four character drinks or a massive titan sized drink, recommended for people about 60 meters tall😆 Eren’s drink was milk based with banana syrup and frozen mango. Mikasa’s was soda based with wild berry and cranberry syrup and a beauty supplement, hyaluronic acid jelly and topped with nata de coco. Levi’s drink was apricot and mango syrup with black tea and mint and Erwin’s was ginger ale based with blue curaçao and grenadine syrup with a pocky stick.

We tried the Eren and Mikasa drinks!

My son was happy with the coasters that came with it since his favorites are Levi and Hanji. The quality of the coasters was pretty nice this time.

There was also merch available for purchase and You could buy a full set if you didn’t want to play the blind bag game. I wanted the acrylic accessories but there was also can badges available for purchase with the same design.

If you did want something from the actual cinema you could purchase the movie booklet with a lovely Eren illustration on the cover. There was also some non movie tie in goods which varied from cinema to cinema.

Attack on Universal Studios Japan 2020 XR Attraction

What’s this?! An update?? Cool Japan 2020 includes Attack on Titan, Detective Conan, Lupin the 3rd and Monster Hunter. The Shingeki portion this year includes a VR coaster experience, a restaurant themed to the survey corps mess hall featuring a special menu and clonoids of Levi and Hanji, an Eren themed churrito snack and Makasa Ackerman-man (red steamed bun) and of course limited merch. I actually went a day before the event start to try to catch the attraction soft opening and to go shopping since usually merch is sold from the day before the event starts. If anyone else is interested soft openings do sometimes happen but for short amounts of time from up to a few days before and are not guaranteed, the restaurant this time did not have a soft opening most likely due to the clonoids.

Let’s talk about this VR attraction! In the past we have ridden a couple of different versions of this style of attraction including Evangelion and Lupin the 3rd and it’s a really interesting system because it combines VR with the movement of an actual indoor coaster. This version is hands down my favorite and not just because it’s Shingeki. The idea is fun and interesting and by the end in the final battle you really feel like you are flying on 3dmg.

Once you are in line there are videos explaining the attraction and a photo opportunity. Before entering the building Armin, Hange, Mikasa and Eren give you a briefing on the mission with a brief visit from Levi. Titans have suddenly appeared and people are evacuating on horse drawn carts to Wall Rose with the Survey Corps protection. Hange has developed special goggles to use and they are very excited that you will get to try them! You must first take a elevator underground to the evacuation area.

Before boarding the vehicle you will be given a guide available multiple languages on how to board and wear the goggles. A crew member will also demonstrate.

There are also instructions played on video as well that match the information for public disclosure notices on the show.

Currently this attraction has the highest wait time in the park by far so if possible I highly recommend using Express Pass. There are times when the standby and single rider queue wait time do not have and much difference so it’s not possible to rely on single rider to cut the wait time.

Attack on Universal Studios Japan 2020 Snacks and Merch

Time for snacks and shopping! Outside the Attack on Titan XR Ride attraction there was a snack cart selling Attack on Titan themed food. There churro was a Kid with a Death Wish Chocolate Churritos and Mikasa Ackerman Bun with Miso Chicken Filling.

The churrito itself was not so unique compared to last year’s Levi’s duster design but the crew selling it made it so fun! When you bought it they would say to be careful and not bite yourself while eating it so you don’t become a titan! The flavor was chocolate and it tasted kind of like Cocoa Puffs cereal with a frosting like topping drizzled on top and some nuts.

The Mikasa Ackerman Bun had a really nice flavor, was easy to eat on the go and good for warming up in the chilly winter weather. The name for the snack is actually super cute too. So this type of bun in Japanese is usually called a nikuman. The bun is the color red which is aka. And Mikasa’s family name is Ackerman. So it’s and Mikasa “Aka-man”!😆

So now that we’ve had a snack let’s talk merch. USJ merch is always varied and high quality. There was some really great stuff as usual and various different lines within this years offerings to appeal to different people. Some of of my favorites were the plush of Eren and Levi wearing USJ parkwear. I’m also a sucker for stationary so the notebook made to look like the notebook Grisha left in the basement and the pens that looked like the blades the characters use were really fun. They also added new dishware this year which had three bowls representing Wall Maria, Rose and Sina which fit inside each other.

If you are using the website to check merch before going to the parks you should be aware that there are things that are not featured on the website and you should take that into account when making a shopping budget! Also the website does not show prices unfortunately. I will list the prices that I know at the bottom of this post if anyone is looking for references. Twitter the day before the event start is also a good place to check since people will list prices.

One thing that I really loved was the personalized keychains/phone accessories you could make! I made an Eren one but Levi was also available. Or if you prefer something a bit more subtle there was one without characters but with different symbols from the manga on a green background. Keep in mind that this stand does close early and it takes time to make so it’s better to go early in the day.

In terms of blind box items there was the usual can badges which you could buy individually or as a set. Then there was some character charms which were really pretty but a bit pricy. I tried a couple of times and ended up with the same character and ended up buying the one I wanted online. The interesting one this year that they introduced were these little metal statuettes! Again a bit expensive for blind box but I was intrigued and gave it a shot. Luckily this time I could with both Eren and Titan Eren, so I was pretty happy!

Attack on Joypolis Season 3 Themed Menu

It wouldn’t be a Shingeki event without a themed menu and the Joypolis event is no exception. Like the event the restaurant menu was divided into two parts.

Let’s start with the drinks for the first portion of the event! Both were pretty good and had a nice visual appeal. There was the Delicious First Time Seeing the Ocean drink which had green apple syrup, grapefruit soda, blue syrup and nata de coco. Then there was the Cheers for Queen Historia’s Coronation drink which came with a little crown and was a yogurt drink with whip cream and peach sauce. Both drinks were priced at ¥900.

Captain Levi’s Brunch Bagel was a black tea flavored bagel with pastrami and cheese with macaroni salad and a little Levi flag priced at ¥1,450.

Titan Eren Fist Curry was a curry dish with a titan Eren monaka decoration. The sausages make a fist, and are flavorless just like real fingers might taste I guess?! Priced at ¥1,450.

Last was the dessert dish for the first half called Wall Waffle Proceed into the Wall! The title is very exciting. You could break the waffle wall which I must admit was kind of fun and exciting.😆 Inside was a green tea cake with green tea flavored whip cream with cocoa sauce and crushed oreo cookies.

The drinks for part two are Captain Levi’s New Sensation Cheese Milk Tea which is a milk tea with cheese foam and a drink called Flaming Water which has blood orange, strawberry and mint. These were a bit on the sweet side but nice and looked pretty too. Both are ¥900.

The food options were Wall Pizza Toast. It’s half a loaf of bread with pizza topping. Ok, I get it, it’s a wall of bread and the walls are big so here’s a big wall of bread. But here’s the thing. No one wants to eat this, and it’s ¥1,450. Pictured next to that is Queen Historia’s White Omelette Rice, this was ok. But ¥1,600!! At least it was edible I guess.

The dessert introduced in the second half was Hanji’s Disection Experiment Pie. Love the name. The puff pastry was very puffed, not so much pastry but the cherries were nice with a strawberry sauce and whip cream.😅

And of course there were coasters, because there is always coasters. I still don’t know what to do with them but I liked that these were colorful and plastic this time which was different!
