Women have had a long and hard history when it comes to their relationship with pants, which is why Mary Tyler Moore's capri pants may have
Mary Tyler Moore putting slacks on for the Dick Van Dyke show made CBS very nervous in 1961, and she was limited to doing it in one scene per episode.
The US has a surprising amount of residual puritanism. So I'm trying to get a sense of what was normal for Britain at the time.
As far as I can tell, January 1961 was a seminal moment for British TV quite by accident. Honor Blackman replaced a male actor playing Steed's partner in The Avengers at the last minute, inheriting a man's lines and fight scenes. Those running the show had the good sense (A) to let her do it, because she was kickass, and (B) to put her in a leather bodysuit which would stand up to outdoor stunts (Blackman knew judo, and needed to be able to roll and kick).
She set the prototype for female action heroes to this day, but unfortunately her episodes are lost, so she's not as well-known as the undeniably brilliant Diana Rigg who succeeded her.
Carole Ann Ford was told Susan would be an "action girl" of the same mold as Emma Peel. She left largely because this turned out not to be true.
Here's what I'm getting at. Leather catsuits aside, even trousers were new and modern for female TV characters in 1963. Again, I'm not sure how much to apply US attitudes to British television, but I'm guessing the trousers Barbara picked up from the Thals in The Daleks, with the cutouts down the sides, were quite daring. (Sorry, I'm on mobile, and I'm afraid I'll lose my post if I go looking too much for a better photo):
And we should celebrate the fact that in 1963-65, Susan, Barbara, Vicki and Polly were trotting over alien landscapes in sensible shoes and capris.
New Year had been blissful because she’d got to spend it with the three people she loved the most in the world, calling in 2021 holding Elizabeth as Elias held Ophelia, the four of them dancing int he middle of their beach house without a care in the world. Only the lawyer had something eating away at her every time the woman was left alone with her own thoughts and that was why she was heading to Rosa’s diner on her own on New Years Day. Having told her future husband she needed to pick up a couple of things from work before heading into the city from the beach house she was dressed in one of her power suits. The lawyer was going to need everything in her arsenal today to hold her nerve over this conversation with Veronica because there was an extortionate amount at stake, even if no one else knew about it yet.
Heading into the diner after surveying the front of it for a couple of seconds the brunette scanned the room until she spotted Veronica, lifting her hand by way of greeting. “Veronica, hi, I’m here to pick up the apple pie please.” It was a safety measure as a cover for her being here incase someone else did happen to be within earshot. Yes the place looked empty but that didn’t mean it necessarily was. “And I’ll take a coffee as well if you have time, over at this table here.” She pointed with an elegant finger towards a nearby booth. “Feel free to join me if you have time, but no pressure.” Except there was absolutely pressure and Casey Wells was only there because she needed to talk to Veronica Leon about something she had overheard last time she was in the office for work. Something pertaining to the Morgan … work. The work that lay outside of running Lux. @v--leon
“You know staring is just another form of stalking,” Theodore mused, as he laid in bed beside both his husband and boyfriend. It felt good to finally have Abraham home, and not because he wasn’t enjoying the one on one with his husband, but because he’d become apart of their new norma It didn’t matter how many mornings he spent waking up to them, or how many nights he spent falling asleep in their arms, because it still wouldn’t be enough. “Creep.”

Carlotta didn’t have many friends, it’s not that she wasn’t surrounded by people a lot, oh no she almost spent too much time around people what with the charity events and lunches she had to go to to keep up face. It was more than she didn’t know who she could talk candidly to because everyone in her social life was waiting to be able to tear her down. After all socialites were often the most catty of people, but she just had too pure of a heart to buy into that way of life, even if she did love the shoes and clothes just as much as everyone else. Sitting in her favourite restaurant alone she ran her slim finger down the stem of her wineglass, staring into the dark red liquid with a pensive expression, mind a million miles away despite the buzzing chatter around her from other diners who were mostly in pairs or groups. She was alone, which was unusual, but David was away and she was hardly going to bring Ivy out to a fancy restaurant at nine o’clock at night.
Looking up with her bright blue eyes she scanned around the various faces assessing their fashion choices and hair and make up choices, a passive smile on her face as she sipped her wine elegantly. Eyes clapping on a familiar figure it was a man she’d never spoken to before but always seemed to be hovering around, confidant and in control, he was a striking figure that was for sure. Sometimes her mind wandered to his face even when she wasn’t at the eatery, wondering things about him when her mind drifted during her day to day life. Offering a polite smile she held his gaze for a moment longer before flicking her eyes down again, once more gazing into the dark wine. @emmettss

— ★ lily lay perfectly relaxed along the pale white mattress, her eyes darting across the ceiling, avoiding bruno’s gaze while her mind flicked through everything that had led them up to that moment. she had started feeling a strange kind of queasiness earlier in the morning, nothing completely out of the ordinary but enough to keep her on her toes. it wasn’t until she started her twelve-thirty dance class that everything seemed to change. a pirouette too far sent her in a spin to the floor and her friends scrambling to take her to the emergency room. she felt her lips burn as she licked them, unable to process everything else that was happening other than what had already been said, that the blood results were conclusive, that she was pregnant. “ say something, malysh ” came the tentative murmur disguised with a gentle half-smile tucked into her lips. “ what are you thinking? ”.
