Saw this while browsing Pinterest and knew I had to make it with these five.

Brief explanation of these and ramble under the cut since I don't think the tags are enough to convey everything I wanna say

Looks and is mentally stable: Bugsy and Whitney. They're really mostly just normal. The two have no doubt experienced various hardships before but they don't have as much trauma in comparison and they cope with it relatively well by standing their ground and carrying on.

Looks mentally unstable but isn't: Eusine. I mean, his obsession with Suicune and just the way he dresses kinda makes you think he is just ever so odd but in reality, he's mostly normal aside from his giant ego and even bigger special interest. Just kinda chill most of the time even if he's really weird.

Looks mentally stable but isn't: Falkner. I could go ON AND ON about this. Falkner (in my headcanons at least) has SO MUCH trauma and his dad's death basically shattered his entire world view and his own sense of identity in a way because he's looked up to his father so much throughout most of his life but is it still right to do after he's learned about all the pain he inflicted onto him? He also just has a slew of insecurities and issues still even if he's mostly healed. As a result, he tends to put on an elegant, cool, and confident facade to his insecurities. It is partially genuine IMO and he's had the "Elegant Master of Flying Pokemon" shtick down even before his father died but he plays it up especially after because he wouldn't want others to see how much of a wreck he truly is, would he.

Looks and is mentally unstable: Morty. From the bat. I can see how most people would see him as someone weird or off-putting due to his stature and his affinity with spirits among other things and his obsession with and interest in Ho-oh really doesn't help his case LMAO. These exact kinds of assumptions and generalizations however, are ironically what caused the bulk of his problems as he was ostracized as a child because people thought he was a "bad omen" (and it also doesn't help that his parents were busy and often neglected him). Then there was his failure to catch Ho-oh, which devastated him greatly not just because it was basically his life goal back then but also because he faced a lot of scorn from the people of Ecruteak once word of his defeat spread. All of this trauma basically just gave him so many issues that even now, still destroy him occasionally.

Despite all this though, I'd say that Falkner and Morty have mellowed out a lot during their time as a couple. Their presence and willingness to be there for each other no matter what has made both of them much more open to sharing their issues and being in the relationship they're currently in has helped them heal from a lot of their scars. Though the trauma and the pain still resurface from time to time, I'd go on a limb to say their current selves (and especially them post-marriage when the two are starting with to live with each other in Violet City) are probably the happiest and healthiest they've ever been in a long time. Their healing is so precious to me...

The thing about Kris is their first impulse is to view things through the lens of competition.

They bump into Silver in Cherrygrove, Silver was rude, and they both have totodiles? Without even knowing that Silver stole it, it's time to prove whose is definitively the best, and it's not going to be Silver's.

They hear from word of mouth that former childhood friend Gold is starting his pokemon journey? They have to make sure they start their own journey right away so they can hit the gyms before him.

They get second in the bug catching contest despite catching a sick scyther? COOLTRAINER NICK is going down. Kris will never attend a bug catching contest on days when COOLTRAINER NICK isn't there, because they want their eventual victory to best the reigning champ of bug contests: if he's not there, first place would ring false.

They get to the pokeathlon and some kid named Lyra is also diving into it around the same time? There's no way they're not competing. Lyra ultimately comes out on top of this one because she has a strong and almost ruthless interest in breeding, min-maxing her pokemon, and is sort of an apricorn aficionado, so she sort of creates super-pokeathlon contestants, but while it's going on, it's really funny (hyper-competitive weirdgirl jock vs. seemingly chill weirdgirl who actually gets really intense with it).

They meet Eusine, and Eusine's after suicune? Well actually this one is sort of on Eusine. Kris is just sort of vibing while Eusine's the one viewing Kris as some sort of brilliant mastermind outmaneuvering them at every turn, but after they realize this old guy (gender neutral. not actually that old.) views them as a rival? Sure, they're going to rise up to the occasion.

I'm so happy Silver's getting an alt! Like, I'm surprised it took so long, since I always thought he was a pretty popular rival? Eusine's getting added too, but between the two Master Pairs and Silver, it depends on how many gems they take to see if I go after him.

Roxie is getting an EX, and Mega Sceptile was confirmed by Absolutely, so looking forward to Brendan hopefully getting more usability. I never Scouted Victor,but tend to rely more on Celebi in the Champion's Stadium these days.

Archie is also this month's Master Fair rerun.
