You: To be completely honest with you, same here. JW Because you're amazing and wonderful, and I feel like I've never clicked with anyone like I have with you. JW

Stranger: I'm not that. Really. But I agree. We really click a lot and I'm so scared of messing that up. SH Which is why there's something I need to tell you. Before we meet. SH

You: Of course, what is it? JW

Stranger: [delay] I'm trans. SH

You: Alright. That's completely fine. JW You are who you are, and you're still the incredible bloke I've been dying to meet. JW

Stranger: Yeah? SH

You: Of course! JW I was afraid you were going to say something awful. JW Like you have an intense obsession with eating vegemite from the jar. JW But honestly, that's great, and I'm here for you if you need anything. JW

Stranger: [incredibly long delay] I can't stop crying. SH Thank you. Really. Thank you so much. SH I've never come out to anyone before. And I was so scared. And you handled it better than I ever could have imagined and that means so much to me. SH That's why my hair was to my shoulders when we first started talking. I wanted a normal boy hair cut but I've had long hair my whole life so I had to go to a middle spot so my mum wouldn't have a complete heart attack. SH

You: Hey, you are who you are, and I'll always be there for you. JW In fact, if you don't think your parents would be as supportive, you're always welcome to visit mine if you need that support. JW With me being bi, and my sister being gay, I think you'd fit right in. JW

Stranger: Thank you. The same goes for you too. Always. SH No. I don't know if they will or won't be. I'm sure they will be. My mum's best uni friend is gay and she was the matron of honour at her wedding. I just. SH My mum always talks about how lucky she was to have me. How badly she always wanted a little girl. I can't bring myself to tell her and ruin it. Even if I'm pretty sure she'll be fine. SH

You: I mean I'm not a parent, so I can't exactly speak for yours, but I think if anything, she'd be proud to have you whether you're her son or daughter. JW I mean, you're absolutely brilliant in more ways than one, and even if she ends up with another son instead, she'd want you to be happy above everything else, right? JW

Stranger: Yeah. Yeah, I know that. I know all of that. I just. I'm just scared, you know? SH

You: I can totally understand that, and there's no rush in telling them. JW When you feel safe and ready, and only then, yeah? JW And if you need parents to practice on, I'm sure you'd be welcome to come visit. JW

Stranger: Yeah. Thank you. I'm sure I'll be ready soon, and I don't think I'm going to medically transition so it won't be an enormously life-changing event. SH Your parents sound amazing. SH

You: Alright, so just a pronoun change, and maybe a bit more to your appearance if you want. That's not bad. JW Though if you ever do want to go that route later, that's cool, too. You have to decide what's right for you. JW And thanks, they've been great with me and my sister. JW

Stranger: I think maybe I'd want top surgery. But I can deepen my voice pretty well and my genitalia doesn't really make me dysphoric. But I don't know yet. It fluctuates. Just have to wait and see. SH But first, coffee on Saturday. SH

You: Absolutely. I'm looking forward to that. A lot. JW

Stranger: So am I. SH

You: I take it I put you a bit more at ease, then? JW

Stranger: So much more at ease. SH Not that I thought you wouldn't be accepting. I just didn't know. SH

You: Of course. I felt a bit like that with my coming out to people. JW Though Harry's pretty fearless. She helped me a lot with my confidence. JW

Stranger: She sounds cool. SH

You: I think you'd like her. JW Though she can be a bit more of a party girl. JW

Stranger: I used to be, when I was at boarding school. Not so much now. SH

Author’s Summary: “ Sherlock has known he was transgender for a while now and he decides to come out to his parents, but they react badly and Sherlock end up trying to kill himself only to be saved by his best friend John who doesn't know anything about Sherlock being trans. “

My Summary: Heed these warnings very carefully, as there is a suicide attempt. HOWEVER, this is a wonderful piece of work, in which John is a sweetheart to trans!Sherlock, and is wonderfully accepting of his best friend. The characterization is very good, and I loved it! (Hence the rec, obviously)

This trans Sherlock debate is going way the fuck overboard. People who think trans Sherlock is confirmed or whatever are harassing people who disagree and people who don’t think Sherlock is trans are harassing people who do. Let people see characters as they want to! Don’t force your opinions on others, or go after people who don’t agree with you! I’m seeing people leaving Tumblr because they’re being attacked so much over this. Not seeing Sherlock as trans does not make someone transphobic and you’re not encouraging tolerance by attacking someone who disagrees with you. I can’t just sit by and not say anything while people are being bullied to the point where they don’t feel comfortable being on this site anymore.
