The scales of a brown trout (Salmo trutta)

Do you like trout?
I love it
I like it
It's okay I guess

Is the merman Chairman Rose a one-off doodle or is is part of an AU?
Also what color would his tail be?
For the moment, we weren't planning on making it part of something larger; it was supposed to be just a sketch done in our limited free time... although it's fun to "build" and "expand" our merfolk worldbuilding, and introducing new characters is a great excuse to create new species, breeds, and explanations!
In our vision, Rose is a common merfolk (Maregens vulgaris), of the steelhead subspecies, the same name as the steelhead trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss irideus). And that's our reference for the look of his tail!
[The steel-shiny scales of a steelhead trout]
Steelhead are merfolks with relatively short bodies, especially when compared to subspecies like the royal one. Their flesh is tender and rich in fat, allowing them to survive even in open and remarkably cold waters, such as those of the United Kingdom or Canada, although they are rarely found in real arctic areas.
The scaled part of their body is of a luminous iron gray, in some specimens enriched by a red line, and a vague iridescence. They have dark fins, olive or gray in color, which can be black in the more pigmented specimens.
(We haven't yet decided whether Rose should have black fins, although the idea of distinguishing him from the others with a little accent detail like this seems like a nice idea!)
