"Late again! You are a disgrace to this facility!"
"If you don't get yo 'golfball with mold growing on it' looking ass out my face! Be glad I actually showed up, be happy I'm even here! ALSO! I'm two minutes early!"
A new guard transfer had turned the Wall from a silent fortress into a verbal warzone. Suffice to say, the newbie and the warden did NOT get on well at all. Least the arguments were entertaining...
Despite all the arguments, the new guard was excellent at his job, which Dmitri did like.
But Dmitri felt that this guard didn't belong at the Wall, that the young man was just trying to find a purpose, which is why he was always snapping at people or eating meals alone.
So eventually Dmitri called the guard to his office one day to speak to him.
"Rupert Price, we do not get along... well. But while you are an amazing hard worker, I have the feeling that you are trying to distract yourself from something."
Rupert wanted to scoff at Dmitri's face and get back to work. But Rupert knew that the Warden was correct in his assumption, that he still trying to distract himself from feeling like he got Dave kidnapped at the museum.
Dmitri continued speaking "I do not think a Wall guard is a good suit for you. Not because I hate your guts, but I think a job as a Government soldier better suits your style."
Rupert looked up at Dmitri with confusion, raising an eyebrow. "A soldier? What makes you think I want to do that?"
Dmitri replied "Because you have the drive and skills to make a great soldier. Not to mention that the Government are planning to go after those Toppat Clan people."
Rupert found himself standing up "R... really? There are people going after those criminals after most of the police forces didn't believe me!"
Dmitri just nodded as he spoke "I can call up my friend, Hubert, and get you into the Government as a soldier by the end of the week. If you want that is."
Rupert swiftly replied "I would actually like that, you old codger. I want to go. If they are after those Toppats, I want in."
Dmitri smiled as he picked up the phone, dialing Hubert's number and setting Rupert a course to becoming a soldier.
And honestly, Dmitri was going to sort of miss the fluffy angry dog hair that was Rupert. Sort of, as Dmitri was not going to miss the arguments and name calling.
