I was thinking of possible names for Clace kids since my brain is kinda sorta thinking about a possible alternate universe future fic one-shot and here are the ideas I've come with so far (under the cut for ... probably spoilers):

GIRL NAMES:

- Celia - is my preferred name for a daughter for them. It honors both Celine (Jace's mom) and Cecily (who married into the Lightwoods, making Jace, Alec and Isabelle all cousins)

- Abigail - Jonathan the Shadowhunter keeps getting namesakes, but what about his sister? I feel like Clary would be a champion of Abigail (also, I have this headcanon that the Morgensterns are direct descendants of Abigail)

- Lily - I really wanted a name to honor Ithuriel and this is all I got. Itheuriel's flower is a lily. The problem with this is of course the existence of Lily Chen, but I still think it works as a middle name

- Maryse - kind of obvious, and I kinda feel it works best as a middle name

- Charlotte - I mean, the first female Consul and Clary's great something grandma? She deserves a namesake. Hoepfully Tessa tells Clary so many stories about Charlotte, Clary is like 'yup, yup, she's amazing'

- Meredith - a Welsh name meaning 'great Lord'. Makes me think of Magnus's own name meaning 'greatness'. Funny enough, if you search for names similar to Magnus the first one that pops up is Max, which is already taken. I can see Clary having this name in mind if she watches Grey's Anatomy LOL.

- Never mind, @sophideonprotector has opened my eyes to how great Adele would be as a name. It is Calry's middle name, her grandma's name (Adele Nightshade) and Tessa's mom was Elizabeth Gray aka Adele Starkweather. Initially I thought that Clary and Jace's wouldn't use their own middle names but now I've come around to thinking maybe they actually would!

BOY NAMES:

- David - after David the Silent. Probably my fave name for a boy. Jace and Sebastian were both named after Jonathan the Shadowhunter, so why not keep the theme naming and have a son named after Jonathan's parabatai? Would be a neat way to include Alec and Simon in the name since they are Jace and Clary's parabatais.

- Henry - the Fairchild family doesn't have many great names when it comes to man, but Henry Branwell was the inventor of the portal! Clary would feel very proud of her great something grandpa because of this!

- Zach - after Jem, of course. After reading 'Son of Dawn', I realized how intertwined Jace and Jem are. Plus, I can see both Jace and Clary preferring short names like Zach since they are both known by their nicknames.

- Lucas - just like Lucie, this one goes to Luke, the only truly good father (figure) in the verse!

- Liam - after Will, and following my belief that Clary and Jace would go for shorter names. I can see this one happening only if Clary and Jace grow a lot closer to Tessa. It also kinda takes into accpunt Stephen too, since his middle name was William.

- Alexander - do I even need to say why? Jace's parabatai and the current Consul, who wouldn't want to honor him? Also I feel like Clary would suggest the name as a roundabout way to please Magnus too (who would probably suggest hinself as namesake LOL). She and Alec are friendly enough to conspire againt their husbands. (Funniest thing ever how Alec became the no. 1 believer in Clary from CoA afterwards.) Still probably works best as a middle name

- Actually, scratch that, I think Christopher is much more likely as a middle name than a lot of the other options here. Like, it's Sebastian and Jace's middle name as well as Kit's first. Then there is Christopher Lightwood for a bonus Lightwood connections. I think both Jace and Clary would steer very clear from Jonathan but Christopher is still fair game, cause it has more positove connotations than Jonathan.

While I cannot see Clace have more than three kids (maybe 4 if they get surprise twins like Charlotte and Henry did), here are the possible combos for the kids names that I would go for, from most to least likely to happen.

Girls:

1. Celia Lily Herondale

2. Adele Charlotte Herondale

Boys:

3. Abigail Maryse Herondale*

*Abigail Maryse would also be a good name for Simon and Isabelle's daughter

1. David Henry Herondale

2. Lucas Zach Herondale

3. Liam Christopher Herondale

I know the last meme you reblogged is for movies/tvs but I am kinda curious how it applies to TMI (so far) 👀

fair warning, my reading of the first book kind of stalled (i've stopped reading on a screen lately because my migraines have gotten worse, and doing it in french wasn't helping lol. now i've switched to a few paper books i owned + printing some shorter essays and french fics and i'm scribbling all over them). so this is without even finishing book one but alas xD (i do intend to get back but it might have to wait until after the summer, it's always worse in the heat).

favorite female character: so far I've liked Clary a lot. She's very different from the show version (which was like, a milder version of the kind of female protagonist that gets on my nerves lol) and very proactive in general.

favorite male character: likely to change but at that point I would've said Luke, actually. He gave me such Giles vibes in this.

worst female character: n/a.

worst male character: at this point in time I wouldn't say I care much for Alec or Simon, but there's no animosity either and what I know about them in the future could change that.

otp: I'm not there yet but I've enjoyed Clary/Jace more than I expected.

brotp: Clary & Jocelyn. I love a momdaughter. Especially when it's clear the mother has Issues.

notp: Isabelle/Simon, but I admit some of my show-based feelings might be sneaking in xD

Sometimes I think about how Jeremy would hear Jean wake up with a gasp. Watches him in his half-awake state, as Jean's trembling hand reaches for his neck and digs his nails into it as he grounds himself into the now.

And maybe some nights he'd hear him muttering in French. A mantra with his name uttered in the silence of their room. And even if he doesn't understand it, the way Jean's voice curls around those words make something heavy settle in his stomach.

Other nights, when Jean's staring out of their window, his mind a millions miles away, Jeremy watches how the light outside plays on his face. Softening the harsh edges of this man and it reminds him how painfully young Jean still is. And he still his hands, grips the sheets of his bed, and breathes.

The fact that Jack Frost is greedy, bitter, and exploits the role of Santa Claus in the name of profit and rampant capitalism... and that Scott Calvin wholeheartedly believes in his family, responsibility, and how Christmas can bring out the kindness and love in others... is such an interesting contrast and something that the third movie handles surprisingly well.

Why did we think it was okay for Magnus and Alec get together when Magnus is more than 300 years older and Alec had just turned 18

my friend is reading TMI at the moment and she just observed to me that Jace undergoes a heck of a lot of suffering. and it’s interesting because cassandra really does heap it on him, if you think about it, in ways that she doesn’t really with the other characters, or even with Clary. the narrative’s gravity centres itself around jace and what happens to him, almost more than it does with any other character. if you’re going to measure character development by way of external/internal conflict which results in change...i think there’s definitely an argument for Jace being the most rounded/deeply developed character in the series (unpopular as that idea might be).

☕️ wrt non-TV adapted Shadowhunters. I am mostly curious what you know of Tessa, Will, Jem*, Cecily, Kit, Ash, Emma and the Blackthorns

*I know Jem was technically adapted by the tv show, but iirc he mever gets his backstory or his love story with Tessa there

I also didn't make it far enough to meet show!Jem, so no issue there!

Tessa: I know she's immortal, an especial sort of warlock (half Shadowhunter). I know the gist of her romantic situation. She feels like a more "typical" YA protagonist than the others I know about in the series, which might work against her. The thing is, I think the age demographic works against her because I think her story would be more interesting after TID, growing as an immortal, dealing with the weight of that, etc.

Will: I know he acts like a jackass at first under a misconception (not-curse) lol, that he's a bit ridiculous, all the stuff with the triangle, that he's a bookworm like Tessa... I've probably absorbed other things through osmosis I don't recall now. I know about his kids, and I'm intrigued by the daughter in particular. Oh, and I know a bit about his parents (mundane mother + how his father was excommunicated --or whatever Shadowhunters call it lol. Exiled?-- for it).

Jem: I probably know most about it because (for obvious show-related reasons) I was interested in the yin-fen angle and I'm pretty sure I looked him up when I was watching the show. So I know his backstory, where the yin-fen use leads, and how he recovers from that, and a little of his part in the more modern sagas (including knowing he has a daughter too).

Cecily: I know she's Will's sister and the mother of Anna Lightwood, gnc lesbian character I'm interested in. So I guess I also know she marries a Lightwood xD

Kit: I know he's Jace's distant relative and part faerie (and I've tried to know little about that lol). I know he's a very lonely sad boy xD. And I know he'll have a m/m romance in the upcoming series that would probably be my preferred m/m ship (by far, though admittedly the competition is mid lol).

Ash: I know who his parents are and that he has a... spell on him that makes everyone around him fawn over him? And the whole Janus thing. And the gist/synopsis of the upcoming book and what that means re: Drusilla.

Emma: I know she's an orphan, that that drives the plot of her book(s). I know she's in forbidden love with her parabatai. I know she's a prodigy at Shadowhunting and is set for a horrible, horrible time in her trilogy.

The Blackthorns: I know they'd break my heart LOL. Everything about the living Blackthorns seems designed to leave me wanting to lie down and sob, from the uncle's secret and the issues it causes, the parentification stuff, Helen's exile, Mark, the way the Clave would treat Ty... This + even what I know of them in the Jamie & Lucie trilogy means I'd be surprised if they didn't become my favourite ~dynasty lol.
