“Abuela, wait, what do you mean dad is coming?”
“He was going to call you about it, and ask if he could come, but he was making such chore out of picking up the phone, that I told him I wanted him there, and I’m sure you’d like it too.”
Her voice is soft, and Eddie hears a slight hushing on her end and he can’t help but smirk.“Abuela, he’s beside you, isn’t he?” he asks, and she laughs then. Before he can help it, he’s pulling the phone away and pressing for FaceTime.
There’s a little scrambling, but soon he can see Abuela there, and half his father’s face.
“Ramon, seriously,” Abuela hisses, before she’s grabbing his elbow and pulling him, so they’re both more or less on the screen.
It's been almost three months since he saw him in El Paso.
“Hi dad,” he says, and he hopes he’s smiling as he says it. He sees a small smile on his dad’s face, a little unsure but there, and he’s quite confident that they’re probably mirroring each other.
