The first time Pidge noticed something was off with Lance was when Keith interrupted their conversation. Lance was talking about how his little nephew's obsession with a book series about a teen who is the son of a Greek god and he had to fight monsters got him in trouble with the school administration for attacking his teacher when she gave too much homework over the weekend.
The two were enjoying themselves and laughing when Keith interrupted them. It started off with a simple question: have they seen Allura? The two shook their heads no, but then Keith explained why he was looking for Allura (mostly because of Lance's teasing face.) After that, Lance practically lost Pidge the moment Keith mentioned 'castle upgrades.'
So when Lance stepped out, he coughed. Now, this would have been a regular occurrence, everyone has had to cough in their life. But what was weird about Lance's cough was that he coughed up a green flower. Lance didn't seem to notice this because he kept going and let the lone flower float its way down.
Katie frowned and was about to follow Lance before Keith distracted her again and they engaged in a conversation.
The second time was when Lance walked in on her training session with Keith. They were practicing some offense moves exclusively for her, moves that will help her take advantage of her height. Keith was teaching her the ‘Black Widow’ move that he got from the Marvel movies and WWE.
The last few tries failed and Pidge kept falling off Keith as she tried to wrap her legs around his neck to choke him. But this time she was determined to get it right. Keith threw a punch at her and she grabbed onto Keith’s arm and spun herself upside down. She wrapped her legs around Keith’s neck and she faced the tricky part.
She bent her torso so it could wrap around Keith’s abdomen. Due to her fast momentum, her legs crashed towards the floor, bringing Keith’s head along with her. She landed on her side and waited until Keith tapped three times.
He chuckled and high-fived her as he brushed himself off, “You’re getting better.”
She beamed up at him, but at the corner of her eye, she saw something shift. She turned her head and saw Lance watching the two from the referee deck. But in his hands was a pile of green flowers. She heard a gasp and she turned to look at Keith, who wore a scared and concerned expression.
Keith didn’t even excuse himself and he ran out the deck, leaving her alone to watch Lance cough up more flowers.
The last time, she finally figured out what was going on after overhearing a loud conversation between Keith and Shiro. She was running around everywhere, desperately searching for her latino lover. How could that idiot think I don’t love him?
She looked in his room. She looked in his hangar. In the kitchen. In the labs. In the training room. Dangit even on the observation deck. He was nowhere. So now she was sprinting to her hangar, hoping to see if Green can ask Red if she knows where Lance was. But surprisingly, when the doors slid open... he was there.
His sitting under Green’s paw. His legs were pulled into his chest and his chin was resting on his knees, his hands interlaced in front of him to keep his position. Surrounding him were piles of green flowers, some with red blotches. His eyes were brimming with tears and puffed and red.
Pidge choked on a sob when she saw her best friend -- no, her crush... her love pouring out her tears because he thought she didn’t love him back.
Lance lifted his head at the soft sound and his eyes widened when he saw Pidge at the entrance of the Green hangar. He scrambled to stand as Pidge sprinted towards him. He wiped the tears off his cheeks and he began, “It’s not what you-”
Before he can get anything else out, Pidge cupped his cheeks with both hands and connected their lips. There was a squeak of surprise on Lance’s part and Pidge pressed on harder, making sure to pour her silent declaration of love into that one kiss.
Lance didn’t react at all throughout the kiss other than the squeak and Pidge was wondering whether she guessed wrong. She pulled away and ended a kiss with a pop, letting out a breath and trying to steady her beating heart. Lance was still frozen, but a pink blush decorated his cheeks.
Finally, Lance broke the silence, “Do you really like me?”
Pidge smiled and cupped his cheek, “I love you, Lance. More than anything else in this world.”
Lance’s eyes widened, but he still seemed skeptical, “More than peanut butter cookies.”
Pidge grinned, “More than peanut butter cookies.”
Lance grinned and picked her up and spun her around, blushing at Pidge’s laugh. Once he put her back on the ground, he laid his forehead on hers (he had to bend his neck a lot) and he whispered, “I love you.”
Pidge smiled and pecked his lips, “I love you more.”
