I think one of the best things about the crows duology is how rich and varied the dynamics are between all of the characters. We don’t just get the main plot related relationships - e.g. Inej and Kaz, Kaz and Wylan, Nina and Matthias, Jesper and Kaz, - we also get beautifully developed dynamics between characters which aren’t vital to the plot but enrich the books to no end.

I’m thinking here about dynamics such as those between Matthias and Inej, Wylan and Matthias, Nina and Jesper. These dynamics aren’t plot crucial, but Leigh Bardugo gives them little complexities and quirks that make them feel very rich and incredibly realistic. The dynamics between all of them feel just as chaotic and complicated as any friend group I’ve ever been a part of, and that’s such a wonderful and rare thing.

I love all of the crows individually, but the crows as a collective just might be my favourite character.

so we all know that the dregs use a bird-call to signal to each other during jobs

from that, we can draw three conclusions:

Kaz brekker going CAW-CAW CAW-CAW out of the blue in the middle of the night, and one of the dregs CAW-CAWing back

the dregs having to memorize a bunch of different bird sounds to mimic, because it’s kind of a coded language for them

at some point, during an argument, Kaz or Jesper has probably lost his shit and just yelled CAW-CAW at the other person, to their horror
