DETAIL + DEPTH | One challenge with Lotus Pose is external rotation of the hips. When there is limited range of motion in the hips in Lotus (besides difficulty in getting the legs to fold into the pose), the knees will be higher than the hips. Another pose that requires mobility in the hips, but is considered significantly more basic than Lotus, is Warrior 2. When there is limited ROM in Warrior 2, the front knee will collapse toward the inner knee - it becomes difficult to center the knee over the ankle. Try taking this Warrior 2 at the wall, which will also prepare the legs for Lotus Pose. Take Warrior 2 with the back against a wall and place a light foam block at the outer front knee. Hold it in place against the wall so that the knee is over the ankle. Engage the outer glutes of the front leg to encourage the inner leg to widen. Keep the back leg strong and straight, and lift the chest. Stay and breathe, then switch sides. © 2018 Ellen Huang Saltarelli Props by @shophalfmoon #detailanddepth #alignmentyoga#yogaalignment #Yoga #yogaprops #propyourpose #yogapractice#yogaeverydamnday#practiceandalliscoming #iyengaryoga #shoulderstand #sarvangasana #parsvaurdhvapadmasana #sidelotuspose #hipopener #warrior2 #iyengaryoga #yogaforeverybody (at Eagle Rock, Los Angeles)
