pretty sure i'm underweight but my meds make my appetite very low. i need food recs. anybody got any favorite foods that don't contain bread or gluten
i'll talk about being too thin & needing to gain weight for my health & mfers will be like "you're not tooooo skinny" "i think you look hot!" "you don't look unhealthy!"
now why would you say that to Anybody who has just told you they are dangerously underweight? i understand that they think they're soothing an insecurity, but they are NOT.
and also.,,, i wear exclusively baggy clothes or tons of layers..you don't even know what my body looks like,!!!??
& like.,, the EDs u think of are not even close 2 the main reason i struggle w my weight, but they don't Not affect me either, & in this bone-centric society i feel like its fair to assume that anybody might be somewhat affected by an ED. so if someone is telling u they need/intend to gain weight, telling them they don't look skinny enough for that to be necessary is !not a good idea! and in this bone-centric society, if anybody is telling you they need/want to gain weight there is v likely a reason. & even if not whYYY are u contributing to the bone-centricity of this society ??
and while it's triggering of EDs and that's worse, it is also invalidating asf to all of the major health failures that can be going on to cause a person to have dangerously low weight. like-- i was actively starving to death, just recently having recovered from a point where i couldnt fully gain consciousness or lift my head for six months, & i could finally walk & interact w ppl, & i'd be talking about WHERE I HAD BEEN ALL YEAR (dying of literal starvation) and ppl would say these things. "you're not That skinny," "nooo you don't look like you're ill you look beautiful!" or often from older ladies who had acquired fatness later in life, "oh shut up"(as in, 'im jealous'.) & all of them are often said with disdain, like., 'you really think you're the Ultimate Skinny? oh you're sooooo special and tiny?' as if im bragging about DYING. & like. for one. you do not even have to be skinny to starve to death, that isnt how that works. and two. i AM visibly disturbingly thin. the way that i look *should* be disconcerting to people who are not personally comfortable with me & my illness. its not an insecurity, it's an i have a condition that is killing me ; i look like i am dying because i am. and no ur right, i don't 'feel attractive,' i feel like i am dying because i AM-- attractiveness is not a factor in the equation. never once have i brought up gaining weight in relativity to how i look, it is always explicitly about my heath. so why do ppl consistently respond by turning it on my 'attractiveness,' esp to imply that they think the state of my body that reflects that it is dying is sexy. ????????????? im literally asexual i hate this whole fucking world oh my gods.
& some ppl will hear that and think its a good thing bc this society also props up sexual desirability as the penultimate favor. while it does mean that i am not dehumanized for being 'unattractive', it is NOT good for me that ppl find me attractive. i do not want to be attractive; i am asexual. i do not want to be attractive; i am Dying and i look like it, i want to not be Dying. i want people to care that i am dying, not get fuckin hard about it. i dont want the process of my death to be attractive! HELLO ???? the very conversation OF my illness is overwritten to be replaced by a 'sexiness' i don't want, and that's supposed to be a good thing??
note: i'm not comparing how ppl treat skinny ppl vs fat ppl, i'm not saying this is worse than how fat people are treated in any capacity. i am saying it is bad all by itself.
note: visibly disabled and ill people can be sexy as fuck. to me personally, the disabilities and illnesses themselves are not the part of a person that is sexy or unsexy; if they feel sexy they v likely are sexy. to me personally, bodies and attractiveness arent in the same equation. so sexiness and physical disability/illness should be on entirely separate fulcrums imo, not affecting one another; i am not healthy BEcause i am 'attractive'... i am not unhealthy because i am 'not attractive'... i am not 'unattractive' because i'm not healthy... i am not 'attractive' because i am unhealthy. i'm not personally interested in whether i am or am not 'attractive,' i'd actually prefer not to consider that at all. i Would like to consider my health. so for the two to be treated as interchangeable conversations is rly fucked up. but to my disabled and/or dying and/or ill peers who DO feel sexy in their bodies, you are and i love you. it is not that my body should be objectively unattractive on the basis that it is ill, it is that the basis that it is ill should not be in conversation with, or contingent upon, whether it is attractive or not.
and the thing is, most ppl never see me without 58 oversized layers on, but some ppl could see me naked and see that i am ill and still say that i can't be ill because i am attractive. i AM visibly ill but they sexualize this aspect of illness so much, and meld illness with undesirability so much, that they can't even see this as illness anymore. there is no "skinny enough" in these ppls minds, let alone the extraordinarily real and obvious "too thin"... and these ppl arent even personally affected by EDs but they still think like this. holy cripes dudes.
(acknowledgement that where my dying body gets sexualized & the dying is encouraged, & neither of those is a positive thing, fat people are dehumanized in every area of life and struggle to get healthcare at all, & the social response to their weight is often antithetical to their health AND abusive. this is not fat ppl vs thin ppl it's all of us vs a bs weight & sexuality complex.)

I was on the fence about weather to write about this or not, because it feels insensitive on one level, and because I know my perspective on this won't be shared by majority, but I am going to do it. I'm going to write a positivity post about weight gain. If this is something you don't want to read, you've been warned.
So if you've been following me for a while, you might remember last summer I was struggling with eating enough, because I didn't have a lot of money for food, and I was too chronically exhausted to make a meal from garden food every day; this actually got worse this year when due to covid I stopped going outside alltogether, I got very malnourished and weak. During this summer however, I grew three times more food than last year, and found a way to can about 60 jars of food despite still being exhausted; there was a food panic and doing this felt meaningful, important and life-sustaining. And finally, by this end of autumn, I got my lost weight back!
It's obvious my perspective on this isn't universal; by being a mentally ill woman without a job who got her hand on community garden slot as a way of getting food, I invoked back the rules of the old world: Looking well fed to me is once again, a sign of prosperity, skill and successful survival. That being said, I absolutely hated being malnourished and it made me feel scared to live in my own skin. I can understand the urge for it, because I've lived in this world enough to be brainwashed into wanting it, to even strive for it in the past. But living apart from m*n for a long enough period has woken me up to the sad reality of it: You become weak and breakable. It makes low energy levels worse. It makes you look like an easy target for violence – I got targeted way more after I lost weight, by predators in public no less, because I looked like someone easy to subjugate and overpower.
I felt breakable and endangered, possibly because I've been thru a lot of violence in my life and learned how important it is to be able to defend. I was too weak to successfully work out, and avoided looking at myself because it was scary seeing even a single bone; I think bones should not be poking out of bodies and skeletons should be safely concealed from human sight, I would be pleased if my collarbones disappeared altogether as I do not enjoy being reminded of my skeletal structure; it can stay a secret. I'm not naturally meant to be thin, I realized it can only happen if I'm starving and it's very off-putting. So these are all the benefits I noticed came with gaining weight back:
Feeling bigger and stronger. Looking less vulnerable and breakable. Feeling safer and more comfortable in my skin.
Being able to gain good muscles without losing weight or overstraining myself
Better energy levels, more enjoyment out of life
Looking healthy and having a nice round face!
Not getting upset about the skeletal secrets being revealed anymore
Being safe from starvation, knowledge that if a food panic arises I will stand more chance with more weight on, and ability to grow my own food.
Not being so damn cold in winter! Last winter I had to wear all the warm shirts I own and was still cold outside, it was pissing me off so much! Ability to keep your body warm in cold is a huge benefit of weight
Rise of confidence, since I get very weak for strong-looking, heavy women, getting closer to that gives me a great boost
No longer being looked at by shallow, vain-oriented humans. I like being able to pre-eliminate all appearance based bigots out of my way.
Clothes fitting better. I hated seeing clothes hanging from my body, felt like I was dying
And I guess, the last is good and bad, because, ugh, I was okay before, with my breasts kinda deflated so I could sleep on my stomach, which is a convenient way to sleep, and it's nice that they look plump and healthy again, but my stomach sleep? I can't do it now. Boo. Remains to be the biggest con of weight gain, but not bad enough not to do it, you know? At least I'm being super warm being curled up in fetal position which is my second favourite way to sleep.
So with all of this, I hope none of us gets cold this winter! And it's possible to be healthy weight even on plant based, mostly healthy diet (I did eat lots of tortilla pancakes and its good I did.)
no, it does not
I wish you could like either hide or report ads on mobile because I'm so sick of seeing all these weight loss ads RIGHT as I got comfortable with my own weight and chub. Go back to trying to sell me roofing or something smh. Anyway being fat and friend shaped is great and if you don't think so (for asshole reasons) then you can get fucked
Everytime I tell someone "I'm okay with my weight" or "I don't wanna change my weight" it gets a bit more true!
This is a reminder that weight loss in and of itself doesn’t equal happiness. Yes, it might change your life, but change like that can also be messy, so keep that in mind.
Suddenly not having any clothes that fit is messy.
Training yourself to search for a different size in stores (don’t laugh - anyone who’s shopped for their own clothes is in a habit of checking for only their size and ignoring everything else) is messy.
Noticing something like more angular shoulders just because you happen to scratch an itch on your neck is messy.
Seeing something very different in the mirror is messy.
Your literal equilibrium changing is messy.
People treating you a little differently because you’re smaller now is messy, even if that means positive behavior.
I’m not remotely saying that no one should try. I’m saying that you should do it for the right reasons if you do it. I’m saying that in one way or another, significant weight loss (and this means something different for everyone) affects other things along the way. Make sure you understand what those things might mean for you.
Yeah, it’ll change you, and sometimes in very positive ways - but not exclusively in the ways people brag about. “Owning it” doesn’t just mean sticking to a diet or an exercise routine. Please just try to prepare yourself for that because it’s a really weird ride if you go into it cold.
