Its a new year, which means a bunch of people are probably making some big resolutions for 2026. So let me put out a little advice, just in case it falls in the feed of the right person somehow.
Don't. Weigh in. Daily. Don't do it. First, because weight is not a reliable assessment of health or fitness and weight goals can be (and often are) a mentally damaging and/or self-defeating aspiration.
But second, if you absolutely must weigh yourself for whatever reason, daily fluctuations are a too unpredictable and make measuring change unreliable. Long term changes in any measurement in your physical body are more likely to be acurate. If you weigh yourself daily you're gonna feel like shit just because you are more hydrated today or because of clothes or damp hair or you literally havent taken a shit. Dont believe me?
I dont weigh myself as a rule, but today i conducted an experiment to prove this point. Weighed myself first thing in the morning, and then again after i had gone to the bathroom, had a coffee, and gone for a run. Guess what? The second weight was over half a kilogram less than the first. Did i magically lose over half a kilogram of fat in less than 2 hours? No, of course not! I pissed, pooped, and sweated a bit. Now, if i had weighed myself after I went to the toilet and went for a run on Monday, but weighed myself first thing tuesday morning, I might be fooled into thinking I gained over half a kg overnight! And if I was focused on the numbers on the scale like I once was (at my unhealthiest and skinniest) that would have crushed me.
So even if you are aiming to increase your fitness and also decrease some of the fat on your body, dont weigh in daily. If you can avoid it, dont weigh in at all. Aim to be healthier, not skinnier. Just do what makes you feel better in your body, whatever that means to you, and do it a healthy amount. Set an achievement goal, like a physical activity you want to do, and aim for that. Being able to walk for half an hour or do a few pull ups or climb a hill are actual measurements of fitness, numbers on a scale are not. Unlearn those outdated, toxic scales of healthiness, learn to do activities you actually enjoy, and I promise your mental and physical wellness will improve 100x more than if you hit that weight goal.
