Truly one of those most heinous phenomena that fatphobia has wreaked upon the world is making kids believe at a very young age that smiling makes their faces look fatter (and therefore uglier). Can you imagine anything more existentially soul-sucking than the act of discouraging a child from fucking smiling.
The Body Mass Index is racist, sexist and ableist.

Picking on your own family/friends for their weight is awful
Picking on your own family/friends for their weight at THANKSGIVING is extra bold, because I know your goofy ass didn't come here to eat fruit and lettuce. We're all here to shove food in our faces, so pipe down and pass the mac and cheese, please
Oh, and this also applies to telling people that they "need to eat more"; focus on catching up with people and stop obsessing over their appearance.
How do you have an entire show with the over arching theme of bullying = bad, but characters constantly bully the fat characters? Which wouldn't be a total problem if the fat characters ever stood up for themselves or exacted revenge on their bullies. Instead they are friends or find themselves at the mercy of the skinny people making fun of them and treating them like garbage.
Make that make sense or is the message bullying doesn't count when it's fat people?
One is too stupid to realize his friend is trying to eat him. Then he gets injured and they have to carry him everywhere and of course it's a problem because he's fat. Which wouldn't be a problem, for me, if the show wasn't constantly championing "we hate fatties".
The other, Dae-Su, is constantly talking about food and for some reason smells. He doesn't even say goodbye to his parents just sings a song about how he loves fried chicken.
Skinny Character: I know it's the end of the world but let me get these fat jokes off.
Hey! You saved our lives multiple times but you're still fat.
You make fun of me constantly but I'll let you cuddle me for comfort and warmth.
Man, we all have over exerted ourselves running from zombies and haven't eaten for twenty plus hours but do you, fat boy, have to keep talking about food?
*Fat guy thinks girl is cute*, said girl: Ew. Everyone proceeds to throw things at him.
Fat guy volunteers to climb down rope to see if the coast is clear and safe, Not volunteered classmates: You're too fat, you'll break it.
When ole girl who wouldn't take Dae-Su's hand ended up falling I laughed as he was much further up the mountain and probably would've picked her up. Ha! Suffer.
I knew the candy bar scene wouldn't end without making the fat kid looking greedy.
all right, it’s 2022, I’m tired of noom ads. Please, take advantage of people in a sneaky way, please, push the vulnerable and stressed back toward their eating disorders and maybe your stupid expensive app that calls nuts and yogurt a “bad” food. Bite me
I've recently realized why the comparison between weight shaming and height shaming has always bothered me. It's the fact that weight shaming is rooted in a far more systemic problem. One that doesnt just determine women's worth but everyone's. And that it also has consequences in medical settings. Like, you're not going to be told your issues are just because of your height even when it might be cancer. Which is what happens with weight. Which is all the more concerning when supposedly more fat means more risk for things like cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Height doesnt have that same issue. We dont have studies linking it to mortality causes. We don't have a 'fix your height, fix your health' attitude. And considering weight also has an impact on female reproductive health which is also poorly studied in general, it's a very concerning issue. Not to mention, some people will bring up that you can still change your weight without any understanding of how multifactorial weight really is. So it's a very uneven comparison.
I get that we often use comparisons to get people to understand something. But the issue is that the fundamental reason a is not okay still applies to b and so that reason alone should be enough to say it isnt okay. In the case of weight and height, it's the fact that neither determines a person's value and that shaming anyone about their appearance is not done. END OF.
