Forlorn daikon
Carrots in love.
They make me uncomfortable. I could only look at them long enough to save photographic evidence.
Bowling Green, Ohio
Yeah this is what happens if you transplant carrots into soil with too-fresh horse manure on top and then don't water them all drought.
Oh, ugly vegetables. I feel so protective of you. Motherly, even.
Turnips!

...you never know where they will turn up! They are high in fiber so a slow digesting veg and a great choice for my diabetic diet. Choose one with a firm smooth skin and good color. Turnips have a purple top and creamy white bottom unlike rutabagas which are purple on top and amber yellow on the bottom. These are good peeled raw or cut up in a vegetable stew. Treat yourself!
When I’m not thinking up new ways with turnips, I’m sewing brightly colored cotton canvas aprons for my online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/topdrawerthreads . Or I’m checking out my local upcycled yarn source (SCRAPPDX) for soft great looking skeins to knit into scarves and hats for my other shop - www.etsy.com/shop/topdraweryarns .
My daughter’s have an online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/yesdesigns - where they design and sew cotton costume knickers.
My older daughter has an online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/wildwovenwomen - where she works upcycled yarns into knitted striped afghans.

I’m currently at a Vietnamese restaurant (which I will be blogging about later), waiting for food! I went to the Strathcona Farmers’ Market with my brother, sister-in-law, & my niece Kylie before coming here for lunch; just wanted to share these 2 pictures with you while I have some time~ It’s weird typing on my phone...
Has anyone seen purple cauliflowers before? Bcos I haven’t. & they’re super cute! They were also VERY pricey like bling blinggggg. The 2nd photo is sorta creepy-looking - well, that green cauliflower is creepy-looking to me. Those spikes are intense!
