Every minute that passed frustrated you more and more as you kept your eyes looking firmly out of the living room window as you waited for Seungyoon to arrive. After checking the time that he had sent you one final time, you were certain that he should have arrived by now.
No matter how many times you text or called, there was no response from Seungyoon. You knew that he was expected at the studio that morning, but it was the afternoon off work that triggered him into organising a date night for you that evening.
As a car finally pulled up outside after almost an hour of waiting, your face dropped as you saw Seungyoon. His clothes were scruffy, hair a mess, the opposite of you, dressed smartly for your evening at the restaurant that Seungyoon had booked.
“You’ve forgotten,” you muttered underneath your breath as you followed Seungyoon’s figure up towards the front door of your house where you went to greet him.
“Hi,” Seungyoon smiled, eyes trailing from your head to toes as you opened the door before he had the chance to knock. “You look beautiful, where are you going dressed as lovely as that?”
Your head shook back at him in disbelief, agitated by the impressed smile that was on his face. Your attire had taken Seungyoon by surprise, only confirming your suspicions that date night was cancelled.
“Have you been somewhere maybe? If you’re not going somewhere?”
“I’m not going anywhere now considering I’m pretty certain that my date has forgotten about me,” you coldly responded, keeping your eyes staring at Seungyoon harshly, watching as his dropped.
“That was tonight,” he whispered underneath his breath, “the reservation.”
Your eyes rolled, taking a step back as you tried to close the front door, only for Seungyoon’s foot to get in the way. He was stronger than you were, able to keep the door open and refuse to let you close him out.
More than anything else he was angry at himself, time had run away with him, but that was no excuse. “Don’t just close the door on me, at least let me explain or make an attempt to make this up to you.”
Your head shook as you tried once again to close the door, not caring that you were ramming it into the side of Seungyoon’s foot, all you wanted was for him to leave.
“I’m being serious, go away Seungyoon, you’re the last person that I want to see.”
Just as yours did, Seungyoon’s head shook too, refusing to back down without at least putting up a fight for you. He knew he’d done wrong, and he knew that it was going to take a lot to put things right, but he wasn’t going to go without at least giving it a try.
Eventually, you opened up the door, refusing to move as Seungyoon walked in, closing the door behind himself. “You’ve got ten minutes to give me a reason as to why you forgot date night tonight, if not then maybe it’s best that we have a bit of a break.”
Your words caused his body to tense, spinning on his heels so that the two of you were face to face. “We don’t need to take a break over something like this.”
“That’s not your decision to make,” you warned, “once again you’ve made me feel unwanted, I’m not important to you, always at the bottom on your list of priorities, aren’t I?”
“That’s not true,” he sighed, keeping you in front of him with his hands either side of you against the wall. “Work went on longer than I thought, I only just left when I got here, my afternoon off wasn’t off after all which just meant I lost idea of what day it was.”
Your eyes closed as you took a deep breath, unable to look at Seungyoon any longer. Whilst you were usually incredibly understanding of work, after so many near misses, you’d finally found the time that tipped you over the edge.
“It’s always work with you, isn’t it? There’s never any thought of me, you can never remember when the two of us have things planned. When was the last time we actually had a date night, that’s why tonight was so important to me Seungyoon, and instead, you bailed on me and once again reminded where I stand with you.”
“I’m sorry that I bailed on you,” he replied, “and I admit work has been a bit of a priority for me right now, but I want to change that and prove to you that you are important to me.”
Your eyes opened back up, surprised by the sincerity that you saw in the way that Seungyoon looked at you. “Even if you do prove to me that I’m of importance, this isn’t something that I’m just going to forgive, or forget, you’ve hurt me Seungyoon.”
His head nodded understandingly; he couldn’t begin to imagine the pain that he’d caused you over the past few weeks with all of the mistakes that he seemed to make.
“I still think it’s best that you just go tonight, I know I said I’d give you a chance, but right now, I just want to be by myself and change our of this.”
“But you look beautiful, don’t change because of me.”
Your excitement to get dressed up had disappeared a long time ago, all you could think about now was curling up in bed and forgetting the evening happened. You wanted to move on, and at least try and move forwards with Seungyoon too.
“I’m changing because I want to.”
His head nodded, allowing his hands to fall back to his sides, “I’ll give you some time alone if that’s what you need, but just answer me one thing, will we be alright?”
After a small pause, your head nodded in reply. “This isn’t me saying that this is fixed by any stretch of the imagination, but I’m not going to break up with you if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“That’s a relief, that thought has crossed my mind a couple of times since I arrived.”
Whilst you weren’t going to end things for now, Seungyoon was walking a very thin line, but after the evening, you could tell that he had realised that for himself too, trusting in him that he’d do enough to fix things.
“Let me start by making things up to you tomorrow, I promise that I’ll leave work on time, and I’ll see if I can rearrange that reservation too,” Seungyoon proposed.
Your head nodded, even though you had a little doubt in your mind, with his busy schedule, you were hopeful that he could squeeze in just a little bit of time for you.
“I can’t make up for tonight, and I know this will be another date night ruined, but I promise I’ll give you the best date night tomorrow.”
“Don’t make promises Seungyoon, it’s not the time just yet.”
His head shook back at you, he was more determined to stick to his promises then ever and prove to you that he was willing to make the effort. “I’m making a promise, whether you want to accept it or not, I’m promising a date night tomorrow.”
“Alright,” you smiled, taking a step closer towards him, “but if you break this promise Seungyoon, then they’ll be trouble.”

——————————————————————————————————-
He paused and blinked a few times.
“I’m sorry, I don’t think I heard you right. What did you just say?”
You laughed.
“You heard me right. I’m attending my ex’s wedding. And he’s marrying my friend who he cheated on me with.”
He tilted his head to the side.
“I don’t understand.”
You laughed again, a little more bitterly.
“Yeah, neither do I. I’m only going because of my best friends.”
“What do you mean?”
“This is the first time in ages we’ll get to meet in person.” Your eyes softened. “And I really miss them.”
The guy had a light smile on his face.
“I get it now.”
“It’s just that… I know I will be made fun of for not having a plus one.”
You shook your head at his raised brows.
“Yeah, a lot of my old classmates can be mean.”
He inched a little closer.
“Could you tell me what happened? Only if you’re okay with it, of course.”
You shrugged.
“Yeah sure, I don’t mind talking about it.”
You took a sip of water and began.
“So, all of this happened two years ago. We had been dating for three years. And I knew that something was off. It was understandable. He was very busy with his job and I was busy with mine. We weren’t getting time to spend with each other. And every time I tried, it seemed like he would try his best to get out of it.”
You smiled sadly.
“I know. I should have seen the signs. But he was my longest relationship. And we had been friends for years before dating. I trusted him. When he told me that he’d have to spend two months abroad for work, he wasn’t lying and I didn’t doubt him. At that point, things were just really strained and he was very stressed. So, to make things a little easier for him, I introduced him to my friend who lived in the city he’d be working in.”
You paused, grip on your dress tightening slightly. You didn’t notice that he noticed.
“And from there, it’s pretty obvious what happened. Soon, he started ditching my calls saying he was busy. He just never told me he was busy with her. And then, one long weekend, when I flew over to surprise him, I found her in his bed.”
He surprised you when he reached over to hold your hand, gently rubbing his thumb across your knuckles. You stared at him for a bit, trying to gauge whether he was trying to make a move on you or whether he was just being nice. Looking at his eyes, your heart melted a little. He was definitely just being nice.
“Yeah. I really should have seen it coming. But I didn’t. I saw them together and walked straight back out and took a flight back home. I packed up all my stuff and left home for Seoul.”
“You just packed up and left?”
“Yup. Needed a change of scene. I couldn’t deal with being in that apartment anymore.”
He nodded.
“I understand.”
He didn’t really understand, because everything seemed too sudden for him, but somehow for you, who just started talking to a stranger on a plane who seemed scared, it fit. He looked down at his hand. He didn’t know what possessed him to hold your hand, but again, it just seemed right, even if it was something he had never done before. He found himself opening his mouth to ask you something.
“So, they’re getting married now?”
“Yeah. And it’s not a normal wedding. They had to make it an all-expenses paid wedding that goes on for literally three days.”
“Okay. Wow.”
“Yeah.”
And although you looked perfectly content, something told him that you were upset. Again, he didn’t know what he was doing, because he just wasn’t an impulsive or spontaneous person, but he found himself retracting his hand to shake yours. You looked up with an eyebrow raised.
“Hi. I’m Song Minho and I’d be more than happy to be your plus one for this wedding.”
You widened your eyes.
“Oh. Oh wow. Are you sure? You don’t have to if”-
He shook his head. You studied his face for a few seconds before grinning.
“Hi then Minho! I’m Y/N L/N. And I’d love to have you as my plus one.”
---
“So, tell me a bit more about your ex and his fiancé. I don’t want to be clueless when I meet these … interesting people.”
You nodded and whipped out your phone, pulling up some old photos.
“Okay, so I know this is a group picture, but he’s the shirtless one in an apron and she’s the one holding a cake.”
Minho’s jaw got ever so slightly tense when he realised how alone you were in the picture. Sure, your ex’s hands may have been draped over your thighs, but you were struggling to keep a smile on your face. It was so obviously fake. And your ex was so obviously unbothered by it.
“Ah okay. What’re their names?”
“Andy and Liza.”
“Okay, tell me more. How did you meet?”
“Oh right. We were in high school together. At that point, we were just friends, but when we ended up working the same part time job in college, things started changing and one day, after months of flirting, he made me a cake with the icing saying, “Will you go out with me?””
Minho forced a smile.
“Hmmm romantic.”
“It was. It really was. He wasn’t always that bad. He…just got incredibly forgetful over the years.”
Again, Minho found himself saying something he never would.
“So basically, he took you for granted?”
You paused, stunned for a moment.
“Yeah, yeah he did.”
There was a moment’s silence before you turned to him.
“Okay, so if we’re going together, we have to know basic things about each other. So… how do you feel about twenty questions?”
Minho hated twenty questions, but he nodded anyway.
---
An hour or so later, you pouted as Minho helped you with your bags.
“We weren’t done with the game though.”
He finally managed to get the last of his bags and started walking towards the exit with you.
“I know, but don’t worry. We can figure this out once we get to the hotel.”
“Thank you so much Minho. I honestly can’t explain how much it means to me, especially since you’re here on vacation.”
“No, don’t worry about it. My friend was a little busy for the next few days anyway.”
Lies. You would soon learn that whenever his left eye twitched, he was lying.
“No, but still”-
“Y/N!”
You froze. You’d recognise that voice anywhere. Before you could react, you felt Andy’s arms wrap around you as he hugged you.
“Y/N! I’m so glad you could come!
Minho stiffened when he noticed how uncomfortable you were with Andy’s overfamiliarity. Minho didn’t like him. Something about his behaviour with you was odd. Liza also hugged a visibly uncomfortable you and smiled.
“Y/N! The reason this is all happening!”
Your fake smile slipped. And that was when Minho couldn’t watch this anymore. Again, he found himself doing something he would never otherwise do. He walked forward, wrapped his arm around your waist and pulled you closer.
“Hi. You must be the happy couple.”
Your tense body relaxed a little when you heard his voice and felt his arm around you, which was odd. You always took a while to warm up to strangers. Andy’s expression tensed though.
“And you are?”
Minho stuck out his hand.
“I’m her boyfriend.”
Your breath hitched for a second and a light blush spread across your cheeks. You had been planning on introducing him as a close friend. Oh well.
Andy took his hand and smiled a visibly forced smile.
“Oh, I didn’t know she was seeing someone.”
His grip on Minho’s hand tightened.
Minho’s eyebrows shot up. Oh. So, Andy was that kind of guy. The one who felt oddly possessive over his girlfriends no matter how badly he treated them. Scum.
Minho’s grip tightened even more.
“Well, I doubt you know much about her anyway.”
Your eyes shot up from your fake smile to stare at Minho in shock. You did not see snarky Minho coming.
Andy just stood there for a minute with his eyes wide. He couldn’t believe what he heard. When he finally got around to reacting, Minho had already moved on to shaking Liza’s hand and offering her a smile. It was fake, and you knew this because every time he had smiled at you, with that ridiculously adorable smile that just lit up his whole face, you found yourself melting. Andy, however, interrupted your thoughts. In a mocking tone, he asked,
“I’ve known Y/N for 8 years. How long have you known her for?”
You glared at Andy, and wrapped your hand in Minho’s, prepared to leave and apologise to Minho about Andy’s behaviour later, when Minho replied in a tone of pure ice.
“Long enough to know her worth.”
Your jaw dropped. Liza’s smile was long gone and Andy was practically red with anger. So was Minho. On the outside, he seemed calm, cool and collected, but he hated the way Andy treated you and felt so entitled to your kindness. The way he treated you when you were so clearly uncomfortable was just the tipping point. A smile tugged at your lips, even though you made a half-hearted attempt to glare at Minho. He pulled you a little closer, shooting you the smile that made you lose track of thought.
Andy was furious and it was clear Minho wasn’t going to back down. It was also clear that you weren’t going to do anything to stop Minho. It wasn’t like Minho was lying about something. You were at an impasse. So, when Liza awkwardly suggested they show you guys to your room in the hotel, everyone jumped at that chance.
Half an hour later, the four of you walked in awkward silence as Liza led you to your room. She offered you a genuine smile.
“Here you go Y/N. We picked one of the pool facing rooms because you like those.”
You struggled, but smiled back at her. It was their wedding. You were not going to be unnecessarily mean.
You and Minho walked in and when you saw the large bed in the middle of the room, your eyebrows shot up. Natasha, one of the two friends you had really missed, told you that all the rooms had two beds.
“Why is there only one damn bed here?”
Minho blushed and looked away, but you jumped when you heard Andy.
“Why? Is sharing a bed a problem?”
You turned around to find Andy right behind you, about to lean on your shoulder. Before you could even react though, Minho stepped in between.
“No, absolutely not a problem.”
“Oh yeah? Then why did she sound so annoyed?”
Both you and Liza were glaring at Andy, though for very different reasons.
Minho closed his eyes for a second and decided to just go for it. No matter what happened, he would not let Andy bother you any more than he already had. He wrapped his arm around your waist and pulled you close.
“We had a bit of an argument before getting here. But we’ll be fine, right babe?”
If you thought your heart was beating fast because he called you ‘babe’, when you looked up at him and he placed a soft kiss on your forehead, you thought it would burst out of your chest.
His hand slipped a little lower, from your waist to your hips and played with the knot holding your dress up. He had the most wicked smirk on his face when he mumbled,
“Besides, these things have a way of working themselves out, right princess?”
Andy let out disgusted snort, grabbed Liza’s hand and stomped off, but you didn’t register any of that. You could only register the look in Minho’s eyes and the way your knees were weakening. Did…did you like him?

*****WARNINGS: Blood, Mentions of Death, Violence (?), Gore (?)*****
Clothes strewn over the floor joined by numerous belongings, furniture slightly askew from panicked movement. My apartment looks like someone raided it, just leaving things knocked over and slightly damaged in their wake. However this wasn’t caused by another person, rather it’s a mess I’ve created in my panic. A frenzy that couldn’t be contained, not that I even bothered to try. If anyone else had just been through that there’s no way they could manage to calm themselves down. No, a jumbled brain operating with frayed wires would be natural after witnessing that.
Blood still covered my shirt and, despite having washed my hands until they turned red, it even remained under my nails. It’s been hours since Juwon died in my arms yet it only feels like minutes. Like it was a terrible nightmare, something I might wake up from and everything would be okay. But at the back of my mind I know it’s real. He’s dead and there’s nothing I can do about it. My only option is to run. Run and hope that they won’t look for me. It’s unlikely they’ll let me go without a fight, anyone who knows anything about the family and isn’t with them is considered a threat. Even if I’ve spent my entire life doing everything in my power for them, it wouldn’t matter once I left- I’d only be a target.
A harsh knock sounded at my front door. Eyes wide, I lurched forward scrambling to hide my duffel bag before answering the door. It ended up haphazardly shoved in the small linen closet by the living room. I was slightly breathless when I answered the door, hair frazzled and puffy eyes showing the state of disarray I was in. Out of all the people I expected to show up, it wasn’t him. But I couldn’t help but feel my guard crumble a bit just seeing the expression on his face. A mix of sympathy and worry.
“Mino… What-.” I tried to whisper but my voice broke before I even finished my question.
He stepped forward and pulled me into his arms, his voice soft when he spoke. “I heard about your brother and I got worried.” He pulled back slightly, cradling my face in his hands while looking into my eyes. “I needed to make sure you weren’t hurt.”
Fresh tears stung my eyes. “Not physically.”
Mino released me, fully stepping into my apartment to shut the door. As he turned back around his eyes widened upon seeing the state of wreckage that’s currently my apartment. “What happened? It looks like a tornado swept through here.”
“N-Nothing happened. I just… I’m really upset.” I murmur quietly avoiding his gaze.
“Okay, well I’m not leaving any time soon,” He replies. “I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to be on your own right now.”
“I thought you wanted nothing to do with me anymore.” I stepped away from him slightly, anxiously looking at him.
Mino sighs and steps closer to me, his hand reaching out to tip my chin up so that I look at him properly. “Just because I’m upset with you doesn’t mean I stop caring about you. I hate that you’re in pain, that you’re hurting, and I especially hate that there’s not much I can do about it. Something I can do though, is to keep you company. By not letting you cry and wallow on your own.”
The last strings that were holding me back from fully breaking down snapped. Next thing I know his arms are wrapped around me while my face is buried in his shirt, tears soaking the fabric. Gentle words spoken softly into my hair, hands drawing circles on my back. I don’t know how long it took for him to fully calm me down, only that it was longer than it seemed. And when I finally pulled away from his embrace the need to forget overwhelmed any other emotion. Just something, anything that would make me forget what I’d witnessed. This urge is what led me to kiss him. Hoping that maybe, just maybe, delving into a physical encounter could erase the memory for a while.
Except I was stopped. Mino pulled back from me, his eyebrows furrowed. “What are you doing?”
“I want to forget,” My hands clutch at his shirt, trying to bring him closer. “Please, please help me forget. Just for a little while.”
He sighs. “It won’t help. I’m not going to sleep with you when you’re like this,” His voice was filled with an unwavering determination. “I won’t take advantage of you when you’re in such a vulnerable state. I’ll help you through it, but not like that. The next time I sleep with you, it’s going to be when your mind is clear and I know that it’s something you truly want. Not something that just happens spur of the moment when you’re caught up in the adrenaline rush or when you’re trying to forget something.”
“But-.”
Mino cuts me off. “No, what you need right now is rest. I’m going to make you some tea, then you’re going to climb into bed and go to sleep. Alright?”
I hesitate until I see the look in his eyes that’s daring me to disagree. “Alright.”
“What is this?” Mino’s voice rumbled lightly.
Sitting up, I blink at him wearily, brain foggy from waking up suddenly. Confusion filtered across my facet. “What is what?”
He tosses something onto my bed. “This.”
I rub my eyes before turning my focus onto the thing he tossed onto my bed. My mouth parted in shock as I saw my duffel bag filled with clothes and essentials. Although it’s pretty obvious what it’s for, the need to deny it was at the forefront of my mind. “Nothing. It’s nothing.”
Mino looks at me suspiciously, an eyebrow raised in disbelief. “Really? So if I were to unpack everything that’s in here you wouldn’t be upset?” He pauses for a second, taking a deep breath. “What were you thinking? If someone else had come and found this you’d be in danger. How could you put yourself in that situation?”
The tone of his voice made my lower lip quiver and my eyes begin to tear up. Upon seeing the genuine concern in his face under the mask of anger and frustration, I felt my already damaged walls start to crumble. “I…” Mino reached out and gently grasped my hands. “I can’t do it anymore.” Sobs wracked my body. “It- it’s too much! All the people I’ve watched die because of this stupid way of life. I can’t watch someone else I love die, I just can’t.” My voice cracked on the last sentence and I averted my gaze from him.
“Hey, shh,” He soothed, moving to pull me into his arms. His hand smoothed down my back continually as I cried into his chest. “It’s okay.”
These walls I had up were never meant to bear this much pressure, having them collapse was inevitable. Though I don’t think they could have fallen in the presence of a better person. He held me until I calmed down, the tears and hiccups silenced. Despite the panic simmering deep within my being, he has such a calming effect.
“Are you going to stop me?” I ask softly, hands clenching the back of his shirt.
“No,” Mino replied in the same manner. “But I’m not letting you go alone, I’m coming with you.”
I pull my head off his chest to look at him. “Why?”
He didn’t speak for a few minutes. “Did you know I’ve been in love with you for years? You’ve always been so tough, like nothing could ever bother you or get past your shell. But even the toughest person has their vulnerabilities, those moments where they aren’t as strong, and they need someone to lean on. I want to be that person for you.” Sincerity shone in his eyes. “And I know I can be, if you’d only let me.”
I’m tired. Tired of fighting. Tired of holding myself back from people. Tired of pretending not to care when that’s all I ever seem to do. Tired of letting fear rule my life. And so I said something that I never would have imagined myself saying. Although, I didn’t say it loudly, it was quiet, hushed. “I’ll let you be that person.”
Yet somehow he heard me. “Thank you.”
At the time I didn’t know what I was agreeing to, but after a few days to calm down and look back on what I had planned, it was clear I hadn’t been about to make the best decision. I would’ve acted rashly and gotten myself caught in days, if not hours. I would have ended up dead. Letting Mino become the person I could rely on, the person I could be true and honest with, was the right call. He even came up with a plan. It was one that would take time, a long haul of sorts. However, I knew it would be worth it, no matter how long it took.
Step 1: Convince everyone we were dating seriously, so that the logical conclusion would be for us to move in together. Of all the parts of the plan, this was one of the longest. For months the two of us had to be seen together almost constantly, glued to each others sides in a sense. It was difficult though, after the boss, Mino’s father, found out that we were seeing each other, he tried to put a stop to it. Claiming that he was in the process of setting up an arranged marriage for him, one that would be good for the family.
Upon hearing this Mino became infuriated, yelling and threatening his father, all while I sat quietly in a chair, staring at the ground. When I was asked how I felt about hearing that, my thoughts turned to how everything would be meaningless and that I’d never make it out. My answer was only truth, albeit not the entire truth. “My life would be ruined without him.” And it would be, if I’m being completely honest. I haven’t been in the right mindset after Juwon died. I mean, how could I be? My younger brother died in my arms, all because I didn’t get us out of there in time. It was my fault.
Step 2: Move in together. While it might seem that this would be a big step, it was relatively simple if you factor in the difficulty of the remaining steps. A small house on the outskirts of the city was obtained, it was quaint and adorable. It actually felt like it could have been home, a perfect one at that. If only it didn’t have to hold such a dreadful future. I almost felt bad for the poor house. Almost.
Step 3: Acquire fake IDs, passports, and birth certificates. Again, this was another particularly simple task, seeing as we both had some shady contacts. Though some extra finagling had to be done in order to work with someone who had no idea who we were. If we worked with someone we knew through the family, it would be easy for them to figure out what we did if they talked. And getting caught isn’t part of the plan.
Steps 4 & 5: Slowly liquidate our assets and purchase explosives. Now, the explosives probably seem pretty questionable. However, these are a vital part of our plan. Well, maybe I should say his plan, because it is his plan. Despite it being my idea, or rather, need, to leave, I didn’t exactly help with the planning process. Except financially, since that’s my area of expertise. Back to step 5, the explosives were meant for our house. Yes, the small quaint home we moved into would be blown up at the end of our plan.
Step 6: Wait for the perfect cadavers. This is probably the worst step, as well as the longest. Since neither him nor I wanted to have anymore blood on our hands, we had to wait until bodies that would match our basic descriptors showed up. It was difficult to say the least, since we were completely on our own for this one. On multiple occasions I had to pass myself off as a student from a University that had a body farm, asking after those who’ve died and donated their bodies to science. Once my false identity was accepted, I was informed by a coroner about two hours away- her name was Lucille- that if anyone came up with the specifics I’d listed, she’d call to let me know.
Months. We waited for months. And at the most unexpected time, Lucille called. Two people found dead, due to a poisoning, matching our descriptors. Meaning the last step would be put into action tonight. While Mino went out to collect them, I would stay behind and set everything up.
Explosives were set up in every room of the house. Our bags were packed, stuffed with essentials and meaningful mementos. It was set up to look like we’d been targeted as a hit. Surely there would be fallout due to our chosen method, but every other method had more faults. Faults that could lead to us, which was something that couldn’t happen. This was the culmination of everything we’d been preparing for. The final step. The end to it all.
Two hundred feet away our house was on fire. The flames a dark orange, reaching out towards the night sky. Smoke billowed out of the broken windows, the house creaking in a plea for aid- something it would not receive soon enough to be saved. Most people would be in despair upon seeing their home ablaze, though I guess by now it’s obvious I’m not like most people. I felt an overwhelming sense of relief. An enormous weight lifted from my shoulders, and the autonomy that came along was astounding.
“Come on,” Mino tugged at my hand, bringing my attention to him. “Let’s go before the first responders get here.”
I blinked at him, a smile slowly working itself on my face. Fire danced in my eyes as I glanced back at the house. “Most things fire touches, it destroys. But for me,” I whisper softly, gaze focused on the tendrils of the flames twisting in the air. “It has brought freedom.”
Most lives only have one part. Not everyone realizes they can change their paths. To some it seems predetermined, as if they have no choice. We all have a choice. Reality has more than one side, it is twofold. Actually no, it’s boundless in the sides it holds. Fear, that which tends to hold us back, can only be overcome once it’s realized that fear itself is the enemy. There is no freedom where there is no choice.
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
“Can you believe everything that’s happened this year?” you asked, your voice filled with soft wonder as you nestled against Mino’s chest.
Mino simply hummed in response. You could feel the vibration against your cheek, and you crinkled your nose as the sensation tickled down your spine.
“I mean, we only met in February,” you continued on softly.
Just in time, Mino thought, his brow furrowing slightly.
When the two of you literally bumped into each other at the grocery store, Mino had just been starting to get back to normal. Kind of.
He’d gone through a break-up just after Christmas, so by the time February came around, he had been feeling a bit more like himself. His heart had still be broken, of course, but... you came along and changed everything.
He hadn’t been expecting it; when you break up with someone, especially someone you thought was your Forever, you don’t even think about meeting someone else... falling in love with someone else. But that’s what happened.
She had broken his heart last Christmas. You had mended it this Christmas.
A crowded room, friends with tired eyes
I'm hiding from you, and your soul of ice
My god, I thought you were someone to rely on
Me? I guess I was a shoulder to cry on
Just lying here with you, Mino couldn’t stop himself from thinking about January. The time in-between when she left and you arrived.
What a horrible month it had been.
His friends had somehow convinced him to go to a New Year’s Eve party, one thrown by another friend every year. It was tradition, and it would be good for him. He needed to get out and try to at least pretend to be normal.
But all of that went out the window when he walked into his friend’s house and saw her. He immediately grabbed a drink and found a corner to hide in, and unsurprisingly, it turned out to be the worst New Year’s Eve of his life.
But her? She’d been fine. Or, at least, she had seemed fine. She’d been laughing and smiling and drinking and chattering and if she’d seen him, she hadn’t let on.
Had it all been a lie? Had he merely been someone for her to pass the time? Have fun with?
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man under cover but you tore me apart
Now, I've found a real love you'll never fool me again
You hadn’t been naive. When you’d first met Mino, you’d known something was wrong. He barely talked about it, simply telling you he’d been through a break-up recently.
But you’d been able to tell he wasn’t himself. Even without knowing him that well, it was obvious. So you’d been careful for the first few months. You hadn’t pushed him, you’d taken things slowly.
By the time June rolled around, you could tell Mino was realizing you weren’t going anywhere. You weren’t going to hurt him like she had - whoever she was.
And now, by December, things finally felt... I don’t know. It was hard to explain. But you didn’t feel like you had to be careful anymore. You had his heart completely, and you knew you would never break it.
You’d been thinking about this for weeks, and right now - lying here cuddling with Mino, barely talking, merely enjoying each other’s company... you knew now was the right time.
“I love you,” you said softly, your fingers gently curling around his shirt. You didn’t tilt your head to look up at him, not yet. But you felt him take a deep breath in.
“I love you, too,” he replied. He was very obviously smiling, and you felt him place a kiss on the top of your head. He held you tighter. And your heart nearly burst.
You figured last Christmas had probably been the worst, but now you knew. Now you were certain. This Christmas would be the best.
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

Gangster!Song Minho x Reader (Mino) | Part 1 2 3
Summary: Through a forced marriage of convenience, you became the wife of the infamous Minho of the Song gangster dynasty.
Word Count: 1k+
Warnings: Angst, alcoholism, kinda violent, sadness, slight fluff?, etc.
A/N: inspired by Fiance by Mino which I honestly feel Mino wrote for that song for this series tbh
Mino sat on his big chair behind his big desk in his big dark room in his big empty house.
All the times his wife annoyed him by barging in made up for the deafening silence and loneliness he was receiving now. it had been, what, 79 hours since she left him, and yet he was just as shaken and torn up in the same way she when she walked away... honestly, maybe even worse now.
He didn’t know he was so... so... useless to her. He didn’t know she thought nothing of him.
Didn’t she know that from the moment he saw her, he was absolutely stunned by all of her?
He then found himself laughing bitterly.
How could she know when all of his expressions towards were so stoic and crass?
How could she know when he never made an effort to tell her?
He shlumped down deeper on his chair, replaying what he heard from her. He held onto a bourbon glass that was empt-- woops. Mino shot forward, feeling liquid spill onto his lap. It pulled him back into reality for a moment, making his droop sleep deprived eyes widen temporarily.
Mino then found himself standing and uneasily walking through his large office, then out its door. He bumped into a vase on his way out, but he could not care less. The rest of the house was equally as wrecked anyway.
His unstable legs brought him into the debris ridden living room where he had initially conducted his rampage. He was looking for his car keys, any of them, even if it’s the Lamborghini that has that annoying sound, on the table, on the couch, on the floor, on the wall, on the ceiling, but it was nowhere, and the frustration pulled out a loud guttural sound from him.
“Kure!” he sounded to the wind, “I’ll just walk then, dammit.”
And so Mino went out of his estate and dragged himself out into the city.
He could die, he knew well, and not because his blood had turned into alcohol, and that that could lead impulsively lead him into the middle of the road. No, his rivals could shoot him in broad daylight. Not only was he wasted out of his mind, he was also unaccompanied and heading to the devil knows where.
People threw him looks and dirty stares, but he could not care less.
With a thick purple coat on and Willy Wonka-esque round glasses, he was already a sight to see, but the sharp and undeniable smell of mixed spirits just made him a lot more noticeable.
And after walking for who cares how long, he found himself stopping and turning left. There was a warmth coming from this place that invited him in. He looked up and squinted at the sign. What was that character again?
He swatted the thought away with his hand and walked into the place that smelled like bread. Hmm, was this a bakery? They seemed to be selling bread as well. As the people in the place turned to him, he got a tray and started selecting random pieces of bread.
He moved to select a long one, but it was too hard to the touch. There was one with raisins, but he didn’t like raisins. He placed the empty tray on his head and started patting himself, harder and harder. I don’t even like bread, he thought to himself.
“Song Minho?” a voice cracked from behind him.
The sound was sweet but painful, Mino didn’t want to turn but he did anyway. He dropped the tray when he saw who it was. It was an angel, the angel he had prayed to see.
“W-why are you here?” she muttered, face somber, eyes glossy. Her lips quivered and Mino barely choked out her name in response.
She covered her nose and nodded, “How much have you been drinking?”
Mino wanted to snatch her in his arms, but when he stepped forward, he collapsed onto his knees, making a few people around gasp, including the woman before him.
“Ya!” she scolded, moving towards him, looking down on his figure. Mino’s face was streaked with tears, evident even though his eyes were concealed with large glasses. He didn’t want to, but his body was content with the image before him that it was decided he got the permission to sleep now.
“Jeosonghamnida,” Mino roughly breathed out, as he closed his eye and felt his mind fly off.
“Minho-ya,” the woman’s voice broke, but he was no longer awake to hear.
“You’re finally awake,” I muttered to the man I was seated beside. I huffed as he looked around, lost. I got the porridge I made him last night and stood from my place, “I’ll just heat this up for you, okay? Porridge isn’t effective when it’s cold.”
Before I could walk away, the man caught my wrist and heaved, “Wh- don’t leave.”
I looked at him and his wet face, “I’m just going to heat this up for you.”
He then jumped out of the bed and grabbed the bowl from me, heading off to the kitchen, quickly walking past me. I watched him zoom off, and with a sigh I followed after him.
He looked at me as he got a pan, placed it on the stove, and poured his porridge in. “Did... did you take me home?” he asked, making me cross my arms and tilt my head.
He pursed his lips at my reaction, “Did you clean up the place too?”
I huffed as I walked towards him, “Who do you think did, Minho?”
Minho coughed, and looked away from me as he buried his head in his hands. I bit my lower lip and sniffled, wiping away the tears that rushed down my cheeks. I let out a breath I held and got a plastic spoon, proceeding to mix the porridge that was beginning to boil.
“Where did you go?” Minho asked.
I looked at the porridge and pulled sharply away when a tear dropped into the mix, “Ah... a hotel.”
It was then Minho faced me, eyes puffy, lower lip trapped between his teeth. “Naega...” he choked on his words and wiped his nose before continuing, “I didn’t look for you.” he admitted, making me feel so many things at once. My chest tightened.
“I wanted you to be free because that’s what you wanted,” he continued.
I looked at him, dumbfounded, unable to utter a single peep.
“I’m sorry I never showed you I loved you.” Minho said, swallowing heavily, “I do though--” his breath hitched, “Saranghae.”
It was at this, I broke down and cried. I left the mixing tool in the pot and covered my face with both my hands. I let out ugly sounds and ragged breathing, “Nado neoleul saranghae.”
Minho nearly fell after hearing the admission that rang in his ears.
“Mwo?”
I dared to look at him, “I was scared because you didn’t seem to care, but I do... I love you.”
It was obvious Minho couldn’t believe his senses at the moment, and so I moved and wrapped my arms around him. With this, he sealed me in tightly against his chest, lips pressing against the top of my head.
We stayed in each others arms for long enough that I could smell the porridge burn.
I gasped and stirred at it, but Minho kept me in place. “Please don’t ever leave me again.”
I looked up at him, releasing a breath. I placed my hands on his cheeks and placed a kiss on his lips, “I won’t,” I muttered against him, “but right now I have to attend to that porridge unless you want to burn the place down.”

Friday.
You tried to reach to the keys of your car trying not to drop any of the cages you were carrying.
“May I help you, miss?” You heard a voice say and you looked through your boxes, at the owner of that voice.
A tall man appeared in your vision, he had blonde hair and big brown eyes, you had to admit that he also had a beautiful smile, accompanied by a piercing on the lower lip.
You smiled and nodded. “Yes, please.” You said and, soon, you felt the weight of several boxes being released.
“Where do you want me to put them?” He asked.
“In the back seats, please.” You told him.
Once you have finished putting all the cages inside your car, you smiled at him.
“Thank you so much, sir.” You said.
“Please, call me Mino...” He smiled, waiting for you to tell him your name.
“Y/n, my name is y/n.” You said blushing slightly.
Mino's smile grew wider. "You have a beautiful name."
"Typical." You thought, but for some reason, you had a smile in your face. "Thank you." You chuckled.
"Well y/n, I have to go, but I hope we can see each other again." He smiled and you said goodbye to him.
You got in your car and started to drive to your work. You were a kindergarten teacher, you loved kids and you would spend your whole days with them.
You parked the car in the parking lot and you started to get off the car the cages with all the new children's toys.
"Hey y/n? Do you need help?" Jiyeon, one of the teachers and, also, your best friend, asked.
"Yes, please, I can't carry all these cages alone." You said.
She smiled to you ad picked up some of the cages.
"Wow, how have you brought all the boxes alone?" She asked.
You picked the rest of the boxes and you started to walk to the classrooms.
"A guy helped me." You said.
She sent you a mischievous look and you rolled your eyes while giggled.
"I don't even know him Jiyeon." You said.
"At least he was hot?" Your friend asked and you smiled widely with the thought of Mino, your cheeks started to feel hot and you chuckled.
"Yes."
20:11 pm.
You were walking your dog in the park, you loved walking in the park at this time, the atmosphere was calm and the breeze relaxed you.
Suddenly, Byeol started to bark to a little squirrel which was in a tree.
"Oh come on Byeol..." you said trying to separate your dog from the tree.
The little squirrel, afraid of the continuous barking of Byeol, ran away, and to your surprise, your dog too.
“BYEOL COME BACK HERE.” You shouted running after her.
After running for a while, you couldn’t see your dog anywhere.
“BYEOL?” You called.
You whistled, trying to catch her attention, but she didn't come.
"Fucking squirrel." You sighed and shouted her name again.
"Is this the little buddy you are looking for?" You turned around and saw the same man from this morning. "She was runnung after a squirrel." He chuckled.
"Oh God, thank you so much." You said grabbing the dog leash.
“No prob.” He said smiling.
You smiled too and you said goodbye to him.
He watched as you walked away and smiled more widely.
You were going to be his very soon, it was about time.
Saturday.
Mino looked at you through the window.
“She is prettier in the mornings.” He thought.
He thanked God that today was Saturday, he knew that you tended to stay at home on Saturdays to clean the house and organize the week.
After some minutes more about stalking you, he was ready to go, but just when he was passing in front of your house, he saw a guy knocking at your door.
“Who the hell are you?” He thought looking at the guy.
He went back to his last spot, he wasn't your brother, for sure, Mino knew that you didn't have any siblings, so who was he?
Once you opened the front door, you jumped into the guy's arms, hugging him in a way too close for Mino's liking.
You let him in with a big smile.
Mino’s anger was increasing by second, he hated how he touched you, how you gave him a cup full of hot chocolate, how you talked to him even though he couldn’t hear the conversation but most importantly, he hated him.
Why? That was an easy question to answer.
He would hate anyone who tried to separate you from him.
And he wasn’t going to let that happen, of course.
Once he finally left your house, Mino approached him.
“Mm.. Excuse me, I have my car parked right there but I don’t know what happened that it’s not working, can you give me a hand please?”
The guy hesitated for a moment, but after seeing the “worried and anguished” look that Mino was giving him, he accepted
✿.。.: .:。✿
You went to the kitchen to leave the dirty cups in the sink, but you stopped right away when you saw your cousin’s jacket on the chair.
You giggled because of how distracted your cousin was.
You took your phone and called him, he just left, so he couldn’t be too far from here, I could go back and pick it up without problems.
But to your surprise, he didn’t answer his phone.
You frowned your eyebrows and called him again.
“This phone is off or out of coverage.”
“What the hell.” You finally gave up, thinking that maybe, your cousin turned off his phone because he was driving and he didn’t want to be disturbed or his phone ran out of battery.
Sunday.
When you woke up, the first thing you did was check out your phone.
Nothing, your cousin didn’t answer any of your calls or texts.
You sighed and rolled your eyes, well, if your aunt didn’t kill him when he left his phone at home the day he went on a business trip for and he couldn’t communicate with anyone of the family for a week, you wouldn’t kill him for not answering you immediately.
You went to the living room and sat on the sofa, where you were greeted by Byeol.
“Good morning love.” You patted her head.
While you kept petting her, you started to think about what could you do today.
Since yesterday you ended all what you had to do, you had the whole Sunday to yourself.
You took your phone and decided to ring Jiyeon.
“Hey y/n, what’s up?” She answered.
“Hey Jiyeon, I was wondering if you wanted to go to have breakfast together?”
“Sure, I see you in 30 at the coffee shop in front of the kindergarten?” She asked.
“Okay, see you there, don’t be late.” You said.
“I don’t promise anything.” She laughed and you rolled your eyes with a smile.
When you hang up, you get yourself ready and left to the coffee shop.
Once you arrived, you looked for your friend, who hadn’t arrived yet.
You ordered a coffee and waited for Jiyeon to come.
“Y/n? What a coincidence” You looked up and saw Mino, who was smiling softly.
“Oh, Hey Mino.” You smiled back and fixing your hair.
Mino’s smile grew wider and pointed at the chair. “Do you mind if I sit here?” He asked.
“No! Of course no.” You said.
He sat in front of you and give you a deep look.
“And what are you doing here?” He asked even though he knew it perfectly.
“I am supposed to meet my friend, but she's late.” You said.
“Oh, I see... Then, I better get going, I don’t want to bother.” He said
“You can stay if you want, I pretty sure that my friend won’t mind if you stay with us.” You said.
“Don’t worry, I have things to do.” He said with a comforting smile.
You wanted to make him stay, but you didn’t know how.
Mino smiled, his heart started to get warm.
He was gaining your trust.
“We can go to have breakfast together... if you want.”
“Yes!” You immediately shut up, not wanting to sound very desperate. “I mean... yeah, I can have breakfast with you here, I work in the establishment in front of this.” You informed.
“Sounds great to me, see you at 8?” He asked.
You nodded slightly blushed and he said goodbye to you.
Some minutes after, your friend entered in the coffee shop with an apologetic look.
“I’m sorry it took me so long I swear th- wait why are you smiling?” She said sitting on the chair where Mino was sitting minutes before.
“Do you remember the guy that helped me with the cages?”
“Yeah?”
“Well, he asked me to have breakfast with him tomorrow.” You said.
“Oh my God, my driend is going to have a date?” He asked in awe.
“It’s not a date… I barely know him.” You told her.
“But that’s why dates are for, to get to know the person better.” She said.
✿.。.: .:。✿
Mino smiled, gain your trust has been quite easy, but he wanted more, he needed more.
He looked at the box he was carrying, a few little cameras with microphones.
Since you would be with your friend until late, Mino could break in your house and put all the cameras with no problem.
Once he arrived at your house, he could easily break in. He knew your house like the back of his palm.
But then, he started to hear barking and soon, Byeol appeared in his sight.
Mino didn’t hesitate a single second and he locked her in the basement.
“Okay, let’s go.” He said to himself.
He put the first camera in the living room, the second one in the kitchen, the next one in your room, another one in the corridor and the last one, after thinking about it your a while, he ended up putting it in your bathroom.
“Done.”
✿.。.: .:。✿
You opened the front door of your house and you sat on your sofa with a sight.
The breakfast meet with Jiyeon turned to be a breakfast and luch meet.
“Wait.” You looked around, frowning your eyebrows.
“Byeol?” Your dog was nowhere see.
You get up from the sofa and started to look for her, until you found her in the basement.
“What were you doing there? You’ve scared me!” You said hugging your dog.
She jumped and barked, happy that she was out of there now.
“Did I leave you there without realising it? Sorry.” You said patting her head.
From the screen, Mino watched you interact with your dog.
He was happy, he could watch all your movements now, without stupid interruptions.
Monday.
You entered in the coffee shop and saw Mino already waiting for you.
“Hey, I’m sorry, I hope that I didn’t make you wait too long.” You said sitting in the chair in front of him.
“Don’t worry, I just arrived.” He smiled.
You looked at his face and you smiled to, but you quickly noticed the eye bags under his eyes.
They were really dark, as if he didn’t get any sleep at the night. Carefully, not wanting to look too bold, you brought your hand to his face, and you caressed the eye bag with your thumb.
Mino closed his eyes under your touch, but he opened again when you asked about them.
“I’ve been watching a serie the whole night and I didn’t get any sleep.” He lied, the truth was that he had been watching you sleep the whole night, since you get in bed until you woke up to get ready to come with him.
You smiled again, you couldn’t deny the fact that you were starting to fall for him, maybe you did not talk much before, but every time you did it, you felt quite comfortable.
“I ordered waffles, I hope you don’t mind it.” He said.
“I don’t! I love waffles.” You confessed
“I know.” Mino thought.
Once the food arrived, you started to eat and talk about your lifes.
When you looked at your watch, it was time for you to leave.
“I would love to stay, but I have to go to work.” You excused yourself.
“I can accompany you if you want.” He suggested and you nodded.
After he paid all the food even though that you offered to pay too, you started to walk to the kindergarten.
When you arrived, Jiyeon was already waiting for you, to enter together.
“Good morning Ji.” You greeted.
“Good morning.” She said and looked at Mino.
“Oh, Jiyeon, this is Mino uhm... My friend, and Mino, this is Jiyeon, my best friend and also teacher of the kindergarten too.” You said.
They greet each other and then Mino looked at you.
“I loved to spend time with you today, I hope we can repeat it.” He said.
You nodded and smiled to him. “I hope so too.”
Thursday.
Mino looked at the screen of his laptop.
He couldn’t remember the last time he went to sleep, but he didn’t mind, watching you was a way more interesting than sleep.
Suddenly, he heard his stomach growl, it was time to have dinner.
He went to the kitchen but when he opened the fridge, nothing, there was nothing.
He sighed and decided to go to eat out.
Once he connected all the cameras to his phone, he took his earphone and he went to a grocery store near his house.
He was buying some instant noodles when the bell rang, indicating that someone entered in the store too.
Mino didn’t bother to look for the new clients, again, watching you was more interesting.
Little did he know that your friend, Jiyeon, was the one who entered in the shop.
Your friend noticed him, and when she was about to greet him, she looked at his phone.
Horrified, she left the store without Mino seeing her.
When she got in her car, she quickly dialed your phone number.
“Hey Jiyeon! What’s up?” You asked.
“Pack your things, y/n, you need to get out of that house.” She warned.
“What are you talking about Jiyeon?” You asked confused.
“It’s Mino, y/n,he has put cameras throughout your house.” She said.
After a few minutes of silence, you spoke again. “Oh my God, I just saw one Jiyeon.” You cried.
“Pack your things, I'm going to pick you up.”
“Please, don’t hang up.” You begged.
“I won’t.” She answered.
Jiyeon searched for her keys in his bag.
When she was about to start the car, she gasped and dropped her phone at the sight of Mino looking at her through the window.
“Jiyeon? Are you okay Jiyeon?”
She started to cry and shake his head at the same time she tried to start the car, but Jiyeon was too nervous and her body wasn’t responding.
“Jiyeon?”
“Jiyeon please, answer me.” You begged
You started to cry, you did not know what you had gotten yourself into.
You thought that Mino was a good person, he acted like a good person.
Now you are being watched by some stupid, mentally ill, your friend wasn’t answering the phone and you were afraid.
You started to cry, what are you supposed to do?
You packed all your things just like Jiyeon said and ran out of your house with Byeol.
Just when you were about to get in your car, but suddenly you felt a strong blow behind your head, and everything turned black.
✿.。.: .:。✿
You opened your eyes and blinked several times, trying to get used to the light.
All the previous events hit your head, so you tried to get out of bed but both your legs and hands were tied to the bed.
You started crying, trying to free yourself from the ropes that bound you, but all your efforts were in vain.
You looked around, it was dark, but a faint light shone on someone sitting on a chair.
“Jiyeon! Oh my God Jiyeon, please, answer me.” You cried.
She did not move and she was tied as well.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” You cried.
Suddenly, the door opened and Mino entered in your vision.
You started to cry harder.
How someone as Mino could have done this.
“Shh, there’s no need to cry.” He said sitting by your side.
You were sobbing now, you were terrified, terrified of what he could do to you.
“Ple- Please... I-I won’t sa-say anything...” You whispered
He caressed your face, looking at you with appreciation.
“Now that you're mine, I can’t let you go.” He said.
You started to cry again, looking at your friend now.
“She won’t answer...” He said, affirming what you feared.
She was gone.
You looked at your right, trying to avoid his gaze.
Now you were crying in silence, hoping for someone to come to rescue you.
“Please don’t be mad, all what I did is because of my love for you.” He said.
Then, he brought a pill to your face.
“Please, take this.” He said.
You shook your head and his expression changed.
“I SAID, TAKE THIS!” He shouted and you, full of fear, opened your mouth.
He inserted the pill roughly in your mouth and forced you to swallow it.
Soon, you started losing control of your body, you did not feel your limbs, you were not able to move even a single muscle.
The only thing you could do was watch as he started to untie you and place you on his lap, resting your head on his chest.
Your tears fell uncontrollably, moistening his shirt.
He placed his chin on your head and his hand on your cheek.
“Don’t cry more my darling, I'm here, I’m here to protect you ... forever.”
