Bucky would say he knew a fair bit about Sam.
He knows that Sam’s favourite gum to chew in the office is peach and mango. He knows Sam’s favourite body wash to use is lavender, no matter how many times Sarah calls him basic. He knows his favourite flowers are sunflowers, and he knows why, too. He knows that when Sam was little, his ma would plant a garden full of sunflowers, and he knows that his ma called Sam her sunflower. He knows Sam still grows sunflowers out back, in a small garden.
Bucky knows that Sam’s comfort food in his dad’s gumbo recipe, not his ma’s, because when Sam was a kid, his dad only made his gumbo when either Sam or Sarah got sick. He knows Sam fell off his bike when he was 7, earning him the scar across his left eyebrow. He knows that Sam’s favourite flavour of ice cream is mint chip. He knows Sam takes cream and sugar in his coffee, and honey in his tea. He knows that Sam loves the rain. He knows that Sam hates the winter, especially in New York. He knows Sam loves spending mornings on the boat, and nights around a fire. He knows Sam loves watching the sunrise, and he knows Sam loves how the water looks what the sun sets.
He knows every scar on Sam’s body, and he knows every story. He knows the weight on Sam’s back as if it was his own. He knows the way Sam looks after he woke up from a nightmare. He knows how Sam looks when he comes home from a good mission. He knows how he looks when he comes back from a bad mission, too. He knows how Sam looks when he’s exhausted, and he knows how relieved he looks after a good nights sleep. He knows how Sam looks like when he’s on the brink of tears, and how he looks when he is overjoyed.
He knows Sam’s hurt. He knows Sam’s heart, too. He knows how Sam loves, he knows that Sam is the sun that hangs in the sky. He knows that Sam is the epitome of good. He knows that Sam is the epitome of pain, and bouncing back. He knows that if there were ever a fallen angel from heaven, it was Sam. Sam was the graceful fall, and he was the thrill of the flight.
He knows that when the world comes crumbling from it’s core, that Sam Wilson will be the only one to fly. He knows that when the sun goes dark, Sam Wilson will be the sole star to keep shining. Life can fall, death can become insignificant, and somehow, he will be the sole thing to matter.
Bucky would say he knew a lot about Sam.
