Open Season: Part 1
I decided I’m going to keep a journal on Tumblr of my CrossFit Games Open prep and training. I feel like it’s going to keep me motivated and dedicated to the process. I have some big goals that kind of scare me when I look at them straight in the eyes.
Goal #1: I want to place in the top 1000 athletes this year in the Atlantic region. I consider myself to be a good CrossFit athlete/competitor but not a great one and certainly not elite but I feel like I am more than capable of falling somewhere within the top 1000 competitors in this region.
Goal #2: I want to hit a 400 lbs back squat and a 300 pound front squat at some point this year. My front squat max is currently sitting at 265 and and my back squat is at 375. I am more than capable of this after the open finishes up.
Goal #3: Potentially get my L1 certification sometime this summer or fall so I can become a coach at the gym that has given so much to me.
Goal #4: Podium in a partner or team competition. I have plans to try to qualify for the Granite Games in St. Cloud, MN and I’m currently trying to get a team together for a competition in Virginia and one in Asheville, NC.
Goal #5: Work on my Olympic weightlifting movements such as the clean and jerk and the snatch and how to cycle reps and max out this year. Other people see my strength but until I can see it myself, I become anxious when I see Oly movements. I want to hit a 245 C&J and a 185 snatch.
This isn’t a very long post but I needed somewhere to start so here we go. My first CrossFit Open...
Our failures should not define who we are. We should be defined by the way we handle them. This hellacious life of three careers has left me overwhelmed, but I'm still driving forward. Even after feeling like a complete failure this weekend, I've stood back up and gotten back into the fight.
