Very disheartening how the default reaction to discrimination against people with X markers on documents and IDs is a chorus of “I told you so”. Can you maybe spare some compassion for the people getting hassled by transphobic TSA agents instead of using this as an opportunity to gloat about how you are so much smart for not updating your ID when it seemed safe to?
Do I think the removal of sex/gender markers from IDs altogether is better than an adding an option for an X marker? Sure, if those are the options available just remove it entirely. But that wasn’t the choice. The choice was M or F or X with full knowledge that X could cause trouble when interfacing with systems not designed or friendly to handling it. Being out as a trans person isn’t always about choosing the safest and easiest option.
If your reaction to a trans person experiencing transphobia because they made decisions that make their trans identity more visible and public is to tut-tut and say “why would you give the government information that they could use to discriminate against you?” Please reevaluate whether you are placing the blame on the correct targets.
dysphoric culture is your school refusing to have x markers in student management or even just using gender neutral language on their forms
Dysphoric culture is!
Also, yup sometimes schools just intentionally ignore and exclude their students and it sucks and you just have to wait to graduate/go to a better school.
The use of ‘refusing’ here leads mod to believe that this has brought up to the school and they’re being intentionally exorsexist (something mod deals with in school as well) but hopefully they’ll change their ways eventually anon! And maybe you can join/make a GSA in the meantime?
Name and title change guidance for UK trans and non-binary people, as written by a transneutral enban
Hey'all!
I recently wrote a guide on how to change your name and legal title to Mx in the UK if you're a transneutral enban like I am and getting appropriately official ID to exemplify that. It is not a guide on how to tell the important people in your life. You should allow £150–£200 for the whole thing, and about 2 months at the very least time-wise.
HERE IT IS, along with a quick index below:
1. Researching available legal titles and selecting them
2. Finalising your real name for life
3. Getting a proper photograph taken
4. Inventing and practicing a new signature
5. Registering your name by Deed Poll, and choosing a witness
6. Signing and dating your Deed Poll, with aforementioned witness
7. Preamble to number 8
8. Changing personal details at your bank and the doctors
9. Waiting for all systems to update
10. Ordering a new passport
a. Reapplying via internet
b. Applying for first (adult) passport
11. Waiting for passport to arrive
12. Applying for a Provisional Driving Licence
a. Online (first application)
b. By post (second, and subsequent, renewals)
13. Rejoicing in your efforts
I do hope this helps. Please do share it with anyone who y'all think/know might/will benefit
Peace out mio folkies!

Argentines no longer have to be identified as female or male on their national identity documents, the latest step in President Alberto Fernández’s push for gender equality.
Some good news from South America: Argentina Formally Recognizes Nonbinary People, a Latin American First "Argentines no longer have to be identified as female or male on their national identity documents."
New Jersey is now joining at least 19 states and Washington, DC, in allowing an "X" gender identifier on driver's licenses and other identification.
I'm happy to share the news that New Jersey just joined 19 other states & Washington DC by adding an "X" gender marker option on its drivers license.
Still thinking about the time when I was asked my gender when subscribing to a hacking course (I assumed it was for statistical reasons) and I picked "prefer not to say" and then I found out all the tutors had access to an excel sheet where there was a X in my row when everyone else had decided to pick their gender
