Coming-out (not mine)
Til now I never mentioned my profession. But today was a really great day.
We talked in sex ed about sexual preferences, gender issues and so on for weeks. And I showed them selected sections from Schitt’s Creek.
Today afternoon after the class a student came to me and asked how to come out to their mother as non-binary. They said it with so much confidence. No doubt, no shame, just a matter of facts. So sure about themselves and that their mother would be okay with it. I am so proud of them.
And they came to me for advice. And the best I could think of at that moment was… to quote (more or less of course) Schitt’s Creek’s Meet the Parents:
David Rose: […] what you're dealing with is very personal. And something you should only do on your terms.
There was only a little to add:
It doesn’t matter when you’re coming-out. It has to be the right time for you. And you’re still the same person as before. (Yeah, I know; almost David Rose again.)
And I promised to do some online research over the weekend to help them. Because I was never in a situation to come-out. I really hope I helped them.
Any thoughts?
And by the way, after they left I cried. So proud.
[5.34pm] You were just finished your basketball’s practice when the rain start to fall. You are waiting for the rain to stop because you didn’t bring umbrella or raincoat to walk back home. Some of your teammates already went home by cars, bicycle or even running in the rain. You don’t want to have fever the next morning so to play safe, you stay at the court waiting the rain to stop. As you scrolling your phone, you heard someone approaching you.”Don’t you want to go home” you look up to see a smiling Yeji standing besides you while holding a umbrella. You thought Yeji already went home because her soccer’s practice was cancelled. But seeing her besides you makes you happy. You stand up and walk together with Yeji under the same umbrella to go back home
Innogender
