Steve was perplexed. While it wasn't uncommon for new recruits to be a little shy at first, you'd been training with SHIELD for almost a month and still had yet to come out of your shell. Every time he led exercises you kept quiet and made yourself small.
Well, as small as someone your size could get. You were just as tall as Steve and almost as broad in the shoulders. But the only time he's ever seen you at full height was when you were ordered to stand at attention.
He's tried talking to you, getting to know you. But you instantly clam up, give one word answers, if that. You practically shrink yourself down in size every time he's near.
I'm his frustration, he starts asking the other Avengers about you, seeing if you're like this with them as well. Bucky and Sam confirm they've also never seen you at full height, but Nat says she's never had an issue.
"Does the recruit hate men?" Steve asks Nat. "Or is it that she's just shy around them?"
Nat gives him a small, sad smile. "I'm going to guess it's something else. Let's ask FRIDAY to spy on some of her fellow recruits?"
"I'll trust you on this," he cedes.
💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
A few days later, Steve can't believe what he's hearing. The vitriol of several of the male recruits making fun of your figure. Lying to you about him, Sam and Bucky not liking having to look up at women who are as tall, or taller, than them. Laughing mockingly about how the only way you'll get through training is if you take up less space.
"You knew this was happening?" Steve asks Nat without looking.
"Had my suspicions. Needed permission to get proof."
"Next time just ask. Don't let it get this far."
"She's experienced this before," Nat surmises. "Not every guy is as secure in themselves as you. Wouldn't surprise me if she's had to make herself small most of her life."
"Well I'm going to do something about it."

Today's training was with Captain Rogers instead of Captain Wilson. Apparently it was a special demonstration or something.
"ATTENTION!" Captain Rogers shouts causing everyone to stand up straight. Your shoulders and back welcomed the stretch.
"It seems to me there has been a lot of misinformation regarding the effect a person's size has on their ability to do well in SHIELD."
Your blood turns cold. Had you not been shrinking enough? Have you been taking up too much space again?
Agent Romanov steps into the mat, looking so tiny and frail next to Captain Rogers. You'd give anything to be so small.
She calls out the names of the guys that make fun of you for being so big and orders them to step forward.
Captain Rogers steps towards them, his face so angry all of the recruits flinch.
"Do you know the key to survival? The most important thing that makes SHIELD missions successful?"
"Sir?"
"Teamwork. Trust in your fellow agents. Supporting your fellow recruits," he barks. "It's come to my attention that you're sabotaging your team. Breaking down fellow recruits."
Your breath hitches. Is Captain America standing up for you?
"With that in mind, you boys are no longer allowed here. We have no room for fragile egos here."
All of your bullies turn to glare at you.
"You look at her one more time and I'll sic Romanov and her sister on you."
Steve glares as the "men" walk off to the locker room, followed by Nat to make sure they didn't cause more trouble.
When they're out of sight, he steps in front of you and you swear you feel your heart stop.
"Recruit, I expect you to be standing at full height from here on out. Bunching your shoulders together like you have been isn't good for them."
"Yes, Captain," you answer fighting the urge to cry.
Reader described as petite. She’s 4’11… she’s 5’2 maybe at a push 5’4 So cute, so adorable, so small, so tiny. She has to step on her tippy toes to be able to kiss her boyfriend. Oh nooo she can’t reach the top shelf, boyfriend’s clothes drown her she’s so itsy bitsy. She’s being mouthy on a night out just throw her over your shoulder, she’s so light and short you won’t even break a sweat. Lend her your hoodie when it’s cold, it’s like a dress. It just swallows her up, sweater paws it’s so cute. She can make herself so smol and sit on your lap whilst you’re streaming like it’s nothing. Car sex is never an issue, because she’s so tiny she can fit in the footwell and it’s borderline comfortable.
am i the only one who forces the headcannon that their faves are talelr than them? cause i'm like 5'9 and i always kinda inadvertently write that the character is taller or just like same height as me. in my mind "canonically" Peter Parker is like 6'0(specifically tasm. mcu's seems 5'10 at best lol), Matt Murdock is somehow 6'2, Charles Xavier might be around 5'11 or 6'0... do you guys do that or am i just kinda weird??? but also do you see my vision as a tall girl?
wondering if you would do mike with a crush on a girl who's taller than him? i love tall readers 😭
mikey realizing how good it feels to finally be able to look up to someone else.
wc:800-ish
a/n: i love this sm🥹🥹 this is so personal to me YES. little spoon mike supremacy
it takes mike a long time to admit to himself that he likes looking up at her. at first it makes him self conscious. he catches himself tilting his chin up when she’s close and he feels that flicker of awareness again. that reminder that she’s just slightly taller. it presses on old insecurities he doesn’t always know how to name. he’s spent so much of his life trying to prove himself in quiet ways. trying to be brave enough, smart enough, steady enough.
so when he realizes he has to look up at the girl he likes, there’s a moment where he wonders if that makes him seem younger somehow. smaller. but then she smiles down at him. and it doesn’t feel like being small. it feels like being held in someone’s focus.
there’s something about the angle of it. the way her eyes soften when she looks at him, the way her expression shifts when he says something vulnerable, that makes his chest ache. when he looks up at her, he feels exposed in a way that’s terrifying but good. like he’s choosing to be seen instead of hiding behind sarcasm or stubbornness.
he doesn’t feel talked down to. he feels chosen.
mike discovers he likes being the little spoon completely by accident.
they’re sitting on the floor of his basement, backs against the couch, a movie half playing that neither of them are paying attention to. he’s tired. she’s warm. at some point he shifts, and she shifts with him, and suddenly her arms are around him from behind.
he freezes for half a second. it’s not what he’s used to. he’s used to being the one who reaches first. the one who anchors. but her chin rests lightly near his shoulder and her arms tighten just a little, hesitant, like she’s waiting to see if he’ll pull away. he doesn’t.
there’s a kind of safety in it that surprises him. being wrapped up instead of doing the wrapping. feeling her breathe against his back. knowing she could let go if she wanted to, but she doesn’t.
he relaxes so fully it almost embarrasses him. his shoulders drop. his head tips back slightly against her collarbone without him thinking about it. she adjusts automatically to make it more comfortable, like it’s the most natural thing in the world.
and mike realizes something quiet and important:
he doesn’t always have to be the one holding everything together.
sometimes he gets to be held.
after that, he starts leaning back into her more often. not in front of everyone, he’s still mike. but in private moments. on the couch. on the floor. lying on his bed talking about nothing and everything. he pretends it just happens organically, but there’s intention in the way he shifts until her arm drapes over him.
he never says he likes it. he just hums softly when she pulls him closer. when she kisses him, and he has to tilt his face up, it stops feeling awkward and starts feeling intimate.
there’s a vulnerability in it that makes his stomach flip every time. he can feel the way his heartbeat speeds up when her hand slides to his jaw to steady him. it makes him feel wanted in a way that’s almost overwhelming. like she’s choosing this angle. choosing him.
sometimes she brushes her thumb over his cheek while she’s looking down at him, and it makes him go quiet. not because he doesn’t have something to say, he always has something to say, but because the feeling is bigger than words.
he reacts in small ways. his hands tighten at her waist. his breath stutters. he leans into her touch without thinking, like he’s been waiting for it.
there are nights when they’re lying together and she traces idle patterns along his arm. he watches her from where his head rests slightly lower on the pillow, eyes drifting over her face. he doesn’t think about the height difference then. he just thinks about how lucky he feels.
how strange it is that someone like her looks at him the way she does. and sometimes, in quieter moments, when his guard is down, he presses his forehead gently against her sternum while they’re hugging, arms tight around her middle. he lingers there. because from that angle, he can hear her heartbeat.
and it steadies him.
mike doesn’t love that she’s taller because it’s novel or different. he loves it because of the way it makes him feel when she folds around him. because of the softness in her expression when she looks down at him. because of the quiet relief of not always having to stand taller than he feels.
with her, he doesn’t have to compensate. he doesn’t have to perform. he can just lean in. and she leans back.

It wasn't a big deal at first.
Correction: it wasn't a big deal.
Yet the dress picked out didn't feel the same. It feels bothersome now.
Perhaps it was the color. The trim. Hell, even neckline maybe-
All the deflection doesn't ignore the flats adorning your feet. Nice try.
The outfit planned for tonight's date had a change of plans…to sum it up nicely.
Honestly it's stupid how something so small and different was causing such commotion.
After picking this outfit with König at the store, you rembered how many compliments it bought.
In heels, that is.
Now looking into the mirror, it felt uncertain. The outfit made sense with the heels.
So why at the last minute, flats? Why not heels?
Y’know, they say words will never hurt. Well rather, they shouldn't hurt.
Kind of like throwing a stone into the sea.
Not realizing how deep it'll go.
-
Grabbing the phone and moving it to the vanity to continue the FaceTime call, you were able to continue putting on some jewelry.
“Hm, silver or gold?” The pieces were laid out on the vanity, almost like a display. Your parent said nothing for a minute, until they eventually decided.
“I think the gold looks nice.”
The pieces were clasped on and a step was taken back, looking at the mirror.
“Alright. What do we think?”
“Beautiful! I really like the dress!”
Smiled and satisfied, the outfit was all put together.
“But…”
“...what?” Maybe they'd say a different bracelet would look better or something-
“Nothing.” Your parent said, well now that wouldn't do?
“What's wrong? You can say it.”
Sighing, they gave in, “It's just…you saying this boy is taller than you?”
A laugh was held back, “Yes.”
“But if you're already tall, dear…those shoes?”
Looking down at the 6 inches adoring your feet.
What’s wrong with them?
“I like them.”
“Why not some nice flats? I can tell you it'd look beautiful!”
“...um…”
They didn't seem to notice the shift in tone and nonetheless, continued, “Yeah! It would look nice, plus you won't be taller than that boy! It'll look nicer! He might even like it!”
Oh.
“It wouldn’t be so bad, to tone it down a bit, no? No need to show up so much.”
Oh.
Unsure how to even respond, a simple nod was all you gave. Before bidding goodbye, they quickly added, “Oh! But who cares what I think! You'll look good either way! Don't listen to me, I'm just…”
They moved their hand in a ‘shoo’ing motion towards the screen.
They obviously don't mean any harsh critic. And yet…
Before anything, a knock was heard near the front door. Must be König.
“Ok, I have to go now. He's here now.” Waving goodbye to the phone screen, your parent copied back, “Goodbye dear! Enjoy your night, tell that boy I can't wait to meet them! Love you!”
Smiling, you ended the call, “Love you too, bye.”
As the knocking got louder, you hung up and headed to the door, shouting at the person outside, “Herein!”
König let himself in, asking if you were ready.
After, he pointed out the shoes.
“I thought you wanted to wear heels?” he asked.
Looking down and ignoring the imaginary jab in your chest by the little insecurity (that was bought back by some measly words), “Ich hab’s mir anders überlegt.”
König smiled, responding back, “Wirklich?”
Staring blankly, nothing was said whilst trying to remember just what that meant.
Letting out a chuckle, he pointed at the flats, “Es gerfällt mir.”
A silence fell after, before giving in.
“I…I don’t understand what you said.” You sighed, defeated. König let out a laugh before putting his hands up in a ‘surrender’ motion.
“I still appreciate you for trying.” He finally spoke in English.
“Thanks.”
-
Dinner passed by pretty quick if you were being honest. It was peaceful, König was a gentleman. Everything turned out good.
So why did it still feel kind of off?
Walking beside König, he spoke about how one of his colleagues (Horangi) was almost shot in the head until he came to the rescue.
Smiling, you looked down at the flats again, voices and other noises slowly fading away. It’s such a stupid reason, it was silly really.
After realizing you weren’t really listening anymore, König stopped, grabbing ahold.
“Hey.”
He then followed your eyes, which were looking down at the flats.
“What’s wrong? Do they hurt?”
But no answer. Just a blank, focused stare.
A look of melancholy.
Calling out your name softly, he reached out with both hands in order to face him. He was confused and worried, more so confused.
He contemplated, before placing a finger beneath your chin. Eyes meeting, he asked again.
Eyes shined, you moved away—unbeknownst the look of disappointment coming from König.
Laughing, followed by a head shake, confused him even more. “It’s really stupid. I promise.”
“It’s not if you're this upset.” König followed your line of sight, “Please tell me.”
Giving in, and a hugging of both arms, helped sooth you from the feeling of embarrassment and somewhat shame.
“...My parent called today.”
König nodded, listening.
“—and uh…remember the heels I talked about?”
He nodded, “Ja. Und?”
Scratching an ear, you hesitated before explaining, “My parent saw…and they thought, y'know..”
Letting a breathy laugh before continuing, “Since I'm already tall enough, I should…tone it down a bit.”
Both hands squeezed together, you continued, “...and I’d figure you might like it. For a change. I don’t want to—”
König quickly interrupted, “Wait, wait, wait!”
Grabbing hands, he put a stop to your fiddling.
“When…when did I ever say—”
“You didn’t—”
“So when did I—”
“It wasn’t you, König!”
He shut up. He wouldn't dare interrupt right now. The last thing he wanted was to upset you further.
A moment passed, before he asked more carefully, “Do you think I mind?”
Laughing, you shrugged, “I know you don’t, but…I do know that people stare at us whenever we're out together sometimes..."
Taking a breath before contiuing, "More or so especially when I wear heels. I see their looks, and after what my parent said, it’s just sometimes in the back of my mind, y’know…”
Don’t say it.
“That maybe you might get embarrassed sometimes…” König looked back, baffled.
“—of me.” Biting the lip hard enough to almost bleed, you awaited for his eye roll. It never came.
Instead, he sighed and picked you up.
Shocked, and lost for words, an awkward silence rested. He began walking, your weight mainly on top of his shoulder. Attempting to lift off of him, you were jostled up as a silent means to stay put.
“What are you doing?!”
He ignored and tightened his grip on you. As onlookers stared, you couldn't help but fuss more, face covered and shoving at his arms.
“People are staring..! Put me down..!” You whisper-yelled. He walked for another 10 minutes before finally listening.
Reeling back to yell at him, the shop upfront caught your attention. Confused, not a word was uttered.
König simply grabbed your hand and headed inside.
It was a shoe boutique. A high-end one at that.
Just before you could question him further, a salesperson greeted, “Is there anything in particular you’re looking for?”
König interrupted before you could even speak.
“Heels. Tall.”
Pulling you in by the waist, he made it clear who it was for.
The salesperson nodded and the search began.
As they walked off to find the right size, you faced König, awaiting a response.
He pulled in closer, “I need you to know for certain. I won’t ever need you to dim your light for me."
"König—"
"The tallest in the room, and I love every bit of it."
"Ok—"
"Nein. I need you to know, I adore every part of you."
"Ok but—"
"Every part. I mean it, schatz. No one tells you different.”
That validation alone fell deeper than the first stone did.
It actually destroyed the previous one that told you he'd like it if you toned it down—
And that was the purpose of him even coming here.
To solidify.
No words were exchanged except for a glowing smile followed with a kiss on the cheek.
"Thank you, König."
Just then, the salesperson came back with 4 different pairs of shoes, talking about some exclusive deals.
He looked into your eyes, “If that means buying all the shoes in the stores, then so be it.”
That earned a laugh.
After an hour, you walked out with a brand new, albeit gorgeous, pair of heels now adorning your feet.
König had the flats in the shopping bag the new shoes were supposed to be, one hand holding onto it and the other intertwined with your own.
Can you tell i rushed it? Lol. Let me know what you guys think about it!
If you're writing an x reader fic, please FOR THE LOVE OF GOD do not give the reader a set name/appearance unless it is important to the plot!!
Like if you're doing Y/N Lupin with a steak of white hair because the reader is Remus Lupin's child and had an event that gave them a streak of white hair or something then that's fine, creative even!
But don't go talking about Y/N describing them as a short skinny white girl with long blonde hair and 'blue orbs' whose name is actually Kayla Johnson for no apparent reason. Like it's fine if you wanna write OC x canon or just your OCs interacting, but don't label it as an x reader!
X reader is supposed to make ANYONE READING THE FIC feel as if THEY THEMSELVES (not themself in a different person) are in the universe and scenario. When you give the reader a set name and description it automatically excludes everyone else who doesn't fit that description, which is especially so when you describe the reader as petite or skinny (speaking as someone who is neither).
And on the subject of height: as a tall person, I hate it (but have become used to it) when the fic mentions that Y/N is shorter than their love interest, when in many cases that's not true for me (and many others). It's not THAT big of a deal but it definitely takes me out of the experience and I would just love to see some tall female/gender neutral readers for once that aren't part of a fetish.
If you want to add a few details to the reader regarding appearance, that's okay, but add it in the tags/warnings/pairings! Such as 'reader is short' or 'reader has a last name' or 'Character x Tall!Female!Reader' or 'OC x Chubby!Gn!Reader' to name a few examples. But the main point of the x reader sub(?)genre is that everyone who reads it feels like they can be Y/N, and that they're part of the story.
Also, if you're describing the reader's body, I understand it can be hard to try to appeal to everyone's tastes and appearances, so maybe try to use indirect language, such as 'the suit/dress complimented the shape of your body' instead of 'the suit/dress hugged your curves'.
Anyway thanks for hearing me out on my longwinded angry rant about fanfiction. The most important part of all this is to have fun, so if there are any writers reading this, don't let me get in your head and make you afraid to write anything. Write anything! Write everything! I promise there's an audience. Just, please, tag it appropriately.
TL;DR: Don't give readers a set appearance/names that aren't important to the plot of the story. Otherwise it's an OC, which is fine, but please label it as such. And remember to have fun!
Simon, König, and Soap with a gn darling who’s taller
Warnings: yandere behavior, and slight nsfw mention
A/N: This is day one of posting head canons every day :). Enjoy <3!
Simon “Ghost” Riley:
Doesn’t really bother him — gives 0 fucks, because height is height. Though, he’s a bit relieved he doesn’t have to worry about neck and back pain whilst trying to kiss you if you were shorter.
Will laugh straight-up if you knock your forehead on the door frame or accidentally hit yourself with the shower head; but, he’s nice enough to fix it, making sure it actually doesn’t hurt you for future uses.
Will throw some shitty or cliché jokes, but often reminds you to duck or watch out for ceiling fans.
Loves to be a small spoon, or simply put his head into the place where your neck and shoulder meet. Feels more secure, especially since your arms are likely longer and bigger. Although, don’t think you can tease him, cause if you do, hickeys and rough hands will soon appear on your skin.
By chance, you’re wearing a collar shirt or any loose clothing, Simon will yank it down, making you come to his level and kiss you very intensely — clearly craving more than a sly kiss.
If you try to pick him up, it’ll likely end with him using his commanding voice, moving on getting out of your arms but quickly accepts his fate; his lower body hanging around like a Maine Coon being picked up by a literal child.
König:
It’s perfect, really. Most people are naturally shorter than him, and he likes to use his height to intimidate people. And the fact you’re taller, the power you hold, is unholy.
Though, he slightly does get a bit flushed. You practically tower over him, and he’s often the one to do so. The height difference messes with his head, mentally and physically. With this said, his eyes, and pupils, are shaped hearts whenever he looks at you.
Bear hugs to its max. Wherever you are, he’s behind you, rubbing his face into your clothes as he asks about your day – not letting you go until you ask him ‘nicely’.
Really enjoy sitting on your lap, regardless of your gender. Working at a desk for work? He’s asking very nicely. In the living room, watching TV while you eat? He’s doing the same thing but only on your lap.
Definitely asks you to get things out of reach for him (that he specifically put up because he wants your attention), and hugs you from behind. König, effectively, is trying to hide the obvious tent he has. But, you won’t ignore him, right? Of course, you won’t.
Johnny “Soap” MacTavish:
Digs that you’re taller than he. Much like Simon, height is something that’s natural, and he doesn’t care. But you, being taller than him, does things with his head.
Really tries his hardest to get piggyback rides or be picked up in any way. Sometimes, usually when he comes home from missions, jumps on your back, resulting in both of you falling to the floor.
Soap really enjoys being the small spoon, especially when he’s on top of you, laying on your chest and rubbing his face in your neck. Sometimes, Johnny likes to be the big spoon (or try too). He lays behind you like a koala holding on their parents for dear life.
Shitty pick-up lines all the time: “I’m surprised you didn’t find me on a stepladder,” – “Aye, the air up there must suck, yeah? Why not come down and catch your breath on my lap?”
Will share his clothes with you and vice versa — your closet is now his. Hoodies, jackets, even baggy pants are now sharing with him. However, Johnny does love seeing you wear his own; the tightness curving your body.
