Noryang: Deadly Sea (2023)
With the death of Toyotomi Hideyoshi aka the Taiko, Tokugawa Ieyasu ordered the withdrawal of the Samurai from Joseon (Korea) to end the Taiko's ambitious goal of conquering Ming (China).
But Admiral Yi Sun-sin is determined to not let the invaders leave in one piece for what they did, as he forged an unholy alliance with the Ming (China), and led the last naval battle of Imjin War.
This historical movie is a third installment of the Yi Sun-sin trilogy, with the two prequels Hansan : Rising Dragon (2022) and The Admiral : Roaring Currents.
ja.wikipedia.org editors are so fucking mad at Yi Sun-sin
I didn't expect this.
New swords (GIFs) alert!
Trivia for today are the two handsomely Korean swords that recently added into the demo.
1) Ocean’s Oath
Ocean’s Oath is a long sword, inseparable, described as “Twin Dragon sword” (쌍룡검, Ssanglyong-geom). In the game, its description includes ‘the sea remembers the warrior’s oath. The general who stood up with the dragon to protect the people won a lonely victory in dozen of battles’. (Description from in-game, through Na-seong Kim’s Twitch stream)
Thus, ‘Ocean’s Oath’ could have been loosely based on the sword(s) that belonged to a famous Korean navy admiral, Yi Sun-sin (1545-1598). Yi Sun-sin was famed for his victories against the Japanese navy during the Imjin war in the Joseon Dynasty. According to records, the famed Admiral fought in at least 23 recorded naval battles, all against the Japanese, whilst lacking necessary supplies and being outnumbered.
(Statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin in Seoul, Wikipedia) In the meantime, all of his swords (the ‘Twin Dragon’ swords and another one for decoration) have been declared as National Treasures in South Korea. Unfortunately, the ‘Twin Dragon’ seemed to have been lost.
The two Fable Arts from ‘Ocean’s Oath’ are Emergency Dodge and Blade Wind.

2) Carved Masterpiece
‘Carved Masterpiece’ is a long sword, inseparable, that is a ‘replica’ of the legendary ‘Chiljido’ ( 칠지도 , Seven-branched Sword). I have made a post about it here.
The two Fable Arts from ‘Carved Masterpiece’ are Guard Parry and Seven-branched Sword.

Past Miraculous holders in Korea
Hello, my fellow gamers I come today bearing news from the depraved lands of Twitter!
So Thomas recently posted a sketch of a Korean Ladybug which in itself is interesting, but he added that a one Yi Sun Sin would also make a good Miraculous holder.
Now for those of you who have seen grass in the last three months you may not know who this individual is or their impact on history. A quick google search will tell you who they are but I'm here to fill you in on how they were important to history.
Our story about this Korean admiral starts in Japan at the end of the Sengoku Jidai period.
With the Toyotomi's taking the Shogunate for themselves (as a relative of the Uesugi I am big angy but I digress) Japan began to look abroad for its future ambitions much like the twentieth century.
This led to their invasions of Korea from 1592 to 1598 attempting to conquer the peninsula to invade China.
Our protagonist Yi Sun Sin had always wanted to be a soldier and began his career in a border fort then transferred to a naval garrison. Koreas Army at the time was in a state of relative disrepair as it mainly served to fend off raiders and pirates. This made Korean naval assets their greatest military strength as their ships were well constructed and well-armed to fight off these pirates.
Now when the first Japanese ships arrived on Korean shores the head of the Korean Navy in an enlightened act of brilliance. . . Did absolutely nothing and scuttled his fleet. Effectively allowing Japanese soldiers in unarmed transports to land and begin their push northward to annex the peninsula. In a month the Japanese were in Seoul.
Yi Sun Sin proceeded to raid Japanese vessels after this disaster not losing a single vessel in the process. Now, this is an impressive feat as he only had about 26 vessels under his command. Granted some of these were the famous turtle ship which was at that time the first modern destroyer as its whole purpose was anti-ship.
Now another development by Yi Sun Sin was the Cranes Wing formation. After luring vessels out into open combat His ships would surround the enemy in a u shape to prevent escape and counter flanking.
It is with this info that I get back to the miraculous part of this post. Which miraculous would he have? Well there are two obvious choices 1. the Turtle
or
2. The Crane
The first one because haha funny turtle ship decimates the entire Japanese fleet. The second one because of the formation he developed. The only problem is that I don't know if there is a Crane miraculous so he most likely would have been a turtle holder.
Unfortunately, however, Yi Sun Sin would die in the last battle the Battle of Noryang Strait. But he will forever go down in history as one of the greatest Naval commanders having taken the Korean Navy outnumbered and beleaguered and turning it into a crack fighting force that could take any Navy of the day. He effectively single-handedly saved the nation of Korea from disaster as he destroyed the Japanese fleets.
Well, I hope you learned something today about a man Thomas Astruc mentioned having a miraculous.
You are interested in War History but you don't wanna hear about WW1 or 2 all day? Fear not my friends!

Now this is what I call interesting History! Forget about U-boat warfare and the Bismarck.
THIS IS SOME GOOD FUCKING NAVAL HISTORY.
I can only recommend you to read this! It's such a cool read!
The government has lodged a protest with South Korea after its navy hoisted a flag during Thursday's international fleet review symbolizing a 16th century
The government has lodged a protest with South Korea after its navy hoisted a flag during Thursday’s international fleet review symbolizing a 16th century Korean naval commander who fought off attacks from Japan.
South Korea had requested that countries taking part in the event ensure their warships do not fly flags other than their own or South Korea’s national flag.
“South Korea violated the policy it had set,” a senior official of the Japanese Foreign Ministry said Friday.
A South Korean warship hoisted a flag symbolizing Adm. Yi Sun-sin, who is renowned in the country for his victories over invasions launched by Japanese ruler Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the late 16th century.
Through a diplomatic channel, Tokyo told Seoul the act was extremely regrettable.
Japan initially planned to send a Maritime Self-Defense Force ship to the fleet review, but the plan was scrapped after South Korea asked the MSDF not to fly the Rising Sun flag, which is regarded in South Korea as a symbol of Japan’s past militarism.
Seven countries that took part in the event showed flags other than their own or South Korean flags. Those countries were Russia, Australia, Singapore, Canada, Thailand, Brunei and India, informed sources said.
