[02/04/2018] remind me i am home

choked throats & dry mouths bruised thighs & skinned knees ink stained skin & dark spotty scars these are the things that remind me of home,

hushed conversations & hidden rage clenched teeth & locking jaws phrases, burned into my mind forever, these are the things that remind me of home,

a horrible feeling of displacement, which starts in the gut & moves upwards, out towards the arms & ears & eyes, these are the things that remind me of home,

my mind seems to like pulling pranks on me, dropping things here & there & in between, refusing to tell me what’s happened, this is why i need things that remind me of home,

when i discovered what home meant for others it had been a long childhood of calling a house a home, and it felt nice to know that i finally belonged somewhere, this is why i smile every time you remind me i am home.
