I have drawn Blitz many, many times, but I haven't studied how to draw him in a long time. I wanted to take some time to learn how to draw him on-model in the shows style to be able to draw him more accurately.

❤️❤️🌟❤️❤️🥳❤️🎊🎊 Helluva Boss Mission Zero Stolitz Office Sex Scene Analysis WOOO! ❤️❤️🎉🎉❤️❤️🎂❤️🎊🍰✨💫🌈
Hi!
So Mission Zero came out recently. I thought it was really great! I really enjoyed it. The writing, animation and art direction was all really fantastic. It's amazing to see the improvement over the original pilot and how far Spindlehorse has come.
Something that confused me about the episode though, was that I was really struggling to interpret Blitz’ motivations for having sex with Stolas, and his hesitancy in accepting the transactional sexual relationship with him.
I spent a lot of time rewatching the episode and trying to analyse it and come up with different interpretations.
My first interpretation was that Blitz doesn’t like Stolas very much, and was afraid of him because he's a prince and he stole his book. Blitz was just having sex with him to appease him and get him out of his office. Blitz wasn't thrilled at having to continue to have sex, but was willing to do it because he really wants the book.
But that interpretation didn’t make sense to me? In the show, Blitz is never scared of Stolas (except briefly in 201 when Blitz is caught trying to steal his book), and is never afraid of saying no or talking back to him.
Blitz: Ugh, look I just had a chemical peel, so you’ll have to find someone else's face to plant that feathered ass! (102) Blitz: I’m not fucking you tonight, ok? (107) Blitz: I can’t today (204)
Blitz never tries to appease Stolas in the show because of his authority as a Prince. Blitz is often really disrespectful and rude to him actually.
Blitz actively disrespects authority, and is very confrontational and fearless. He is impulsive and petty and vengeful, and often puts himself in non ideal situations because he couldn’t help but start a fight. He also does things without thinking about the consequences of his actions.
Blitz gets into fights like all of the time, in every episode! And isn’t Blitz’ ability to do whatever he wants, whenever he wants, and not care what other people think, a really important part of his character?
Millie: Until I met some knucklehead who never gave a fuck about what anyone said he could or couldn’t be. He made me believe he could be anything. (210)
Blitz just isn't the type of person who does things he doesn't want to do.
I was leaning towards the interpretation that Blitz was just having sex with him to appease him and for the book, until I was rewatching the episode and saw this shot and I was like, "Oh I think he’s in love with him."
This is a shot of Stolas from Blitz' pov. The music is very romantic and gentle. Stolas looks beautiful! He looks gorgeous. His voice is soft and soothing, almost parental. It’s a very intimate shot. It's the type of shot that you would use to communicate that someone is in love.
I then had the question of... Is Blitz afraid of Stolas because he’s a prince? Or because he's afraid of intimacy?
I then decided to rewatch the episode with the interpretation that Blitz actually likes Stolas, but is afraid of appearing to be into him and having a relationship with him because he is afraid of intimacy.
(EDIT 26/10/25. I should have been clearer here when I first wrote this. I'm not actually suggesting that Blitz is IN LOVE with Stolas in Mission Zero, but that perhaps Blitz has feelings for him. Its just that my inner monologue when I was watching the ep happened to be, "Oh I think he's in love with him.")
I don’t believe this is the only way to interpret this scene, or it is the ‘correct’ way to interpret this scene, but I will be making my arguments and hopefully you find them interesting and persuasive!
Studying how to draw Stolas on model in show style! 🥰
Here, I was studying how to draw Loona. I was using techniques I learned in Kevin Chens CDA class Figure Invention for Animation. Kevin Chen is almost a folklore figure at my uni. He's the grandfather of anatomy! <3 Very cool amazing dude, he's great. Some interesting observations about Loonas character design: - She's really chonkey. She's quite wide and boxy, but she has a small neck, arms and shoulders to balance out her proportions. - Her nose doesn't match the perspective of the rest of her face. I think the animators purposefully break the perspective and cheat to camera in order to create a more appealing drawing. -Her waist creates a X shape instead of a ) ( shape, which is how I normally draw torsos. - The line quality is like this:

So what is the line that I illuded to in my previous post? It's insane! It absolutely blew my MIND when I first noticed it!
So basically, if you are making a show, that being a tv show, film, or even something like a comic book, or whatever. Something that you can do is you can invent a visual motif that is symbolic of an idea, or theme, or character, or whatever in your story, and use it in your show to visually communicate the story along with the script.
And then what you can do is repeat that motif throughout the show, subtly transforming it each time, each instance building on top of eachother and adding meaning and sentimentality! Its so cool! There's this visual motif - a diagonal line present in the composition of most of the shots in this sequence. It is often reinforced by multiple compositional elements in the shot, such as the characters eyeline, the perspective, the characters movement, the camera movement, often literal lines in the artwork, ect ect.. This line is symbolic of the hierarchal disparity of power in they're relationship because of they're class difference, and how that causes conflict and disconnects them in they're relationship. Stolas is to the right and above Blitz, and Blitz is below, being looked down on. This is representative of the conflict between these characters in this scene and also in the show.
Its present in all of these shots, but you can particularly see it in this shot where Stolas walks away and Blitz runs forward after him. The storyboader purposefully chose this perspective and this camera placement in the scene to emphasis that line.
This shot and moment is very much about the the power discrepancy in their relationship. Stolas appears large and in control, and Blitz is small and powerlessly chasing after him.
Hi! This is from December of 2023. The Just Look My Way music video had just come out and it absolutely emotionally devastated me! I wanted to figure out, why so I did a deep dive visual analysis of it. I referenced the book 'Picture This: How Pictures Work' by Molly Bang, which is a fantastic book that I learnt so much from. It's a short and easy read but contains knowledge that I think every artist should know. I also used knowledge that I learned from Bill Perkins CDA class "Style Development for Animation," that I took that year, as well as things I had learned from my mentor at uni. I learnt so much from this exercise! I grew a greater appreciation for the music video and the artists who worked on it. Shout out to Samantha Ames who storyboarded it, as well as all the other artists at Spindlehorse who created it!
Oh boy, time for the big one.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥Helluva Boss Full Moon Composition Analysis PART 1!!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is from July of 2024. The final scene from The Full Moon is one of my favourite scenes in the show. And I think one of the best, if not THE BEST scene in Helluva Boss. It's extremely well written, and I think really wholly encapsulates the themes and the heart of the show. That being, how unresolved childhood trauma and abuse echo into our adult lives and relationships. If I could only show someone ONE scene from Helluva Boss, I think it would be this one. Obviously a lot of love and care and time and attention was put into it to get it just perfect. The storyboarder was clearly given a lot of time to play around with ideas, which i think is why this sequence has such a rich vocabulary and deep use of visual language. Shout out to Samantha Ames, the storyboarder for this sequence, and the rest of the artists who worked on this episode and this scene! It really takes a village to create an animated show. I did this study because I had waited like 9 months for this episode to come out and I was gonna milk it for everything I could lol! I also LOVE! This stuff... SO MUCH! I love symbolism. I love cinematography, I love visual storytelling. This scene obviously had a lot of care and attention put into it, since it is such an important scene, so I felt I could learn a lot from studying it. During this exercise, I was specifically looking at the:
Composition
Storyboarding
Cinematography and editing
Creation and implementation of visual language ideas and how it communicates meaning, themes and story
usage of Parallels, Symbolism and Metaphor
This is a soft sequel to my Just Look My Way composition analysis, which further elaborates on the principles surrounding this exercise. You can try reading my illegible handwriting if you want to read my analysis, haha!
