Charlie walked confidently into the darkness with a grin on their face. They know themself, and they suspected that the veil of chaos and confusion was more of a distraction technique than a real threat.
And in doing so, Charlie uncovered what the darkness was truly hiding - a soul of exquisite beauty and delicacy. A soul who needs saving. And in turn, they will open up Charlie’s world in ways they never could have imagined.
Eva was feeling lost, so she took some time to herself. She looked at her dreams, her fears and her secrets, and why she felt the need to keep certain parts of herself hidden.
She learned to trust herself again, and now she is ready to make a change. With some planning and a little clearing up of loose ends, Eva will be ready to begin her new journey, one entirely of her own choosing.
Today, there have been so many readings about people figuring out what they want in life. The 13th is seen as a symbol of bad luck, but in the distant past it was viewed through a different lens.
Life is hard, and bad things happen, no one can deny that. But it’s not what happens that defines you, it’s how you deal with it. That’s how some ancient cultures saw the number 13. It’s a chance for transformation. To become stronger. And today, it seems that was true for a lot of people.
Tadhg experienced something that will change the direction of his life. He’s taking the time to assess if this new direction aligns with his core values, and if it fits in with everything else in his life that makes him happy and gives him purpose.
That reflection unveiled a passionate, creative spirit unburdened by doubt or fear of failure. Tadhg’s dreams are within reach. It will take hard work, but that’s okay. When your work is inspired by love, it is both a joy, and a reminder of where you’re going.
Seb has had a rough decade, but he’s finally had the time to rest, recover, and think about what he wants to do next. For the first time in a long time, he’s putting himself first, and after spending years looking after other people, he has every right to do so.
But Seb is torn between three different paths. Expand on what he’s already achieved, start fresh with an old idea that he’s always wanted to work toward, or find a community, a connection, his true family. The last is the most important to him, but he doesn’t know which of the first two paths will get him there.
Facing his fear of defeat will help him make that decision. When you know what you truly want in life, fear of failure can cast a vast, crippling shadow. If Seb can face that shadow head on, if he chooses to say no, I can do this, he’ll know exactly what he wants.
Delia has learned to deal with her fear of disappointment, and now her mind is alight with ideas about how to make a real change in her life, a decision that will inspire others to follow in her footsteps.
This will remind Delia of the confidence she’d almost forgotten she had. And this time, she plans to embrace it.
C can trust his intuition - he knows what he wants in life, but he’s not quite sure how to get there. It’s time for him to start planning.
He can begin by breaking it down into small steps and thinking about how his idea could help his community. That help will flow right back to him. Even C hasn’t yet realised how far he can go!
At the end of a long journey, Anon has found a way to balance their inner sense of self with their outer actions.
They worked hard to get here, and they’ve honed their inner calm with such intense diligence that they’ve almost forgotten a new journey awaits them.
Anon is ready, they just don’t know it yet!
A recent encounter has given Carlos a glimpse of what the universe is truly capable of.
With the right mindset and the right people around him, he could soon find that something he always thought was impossible might actually be beautifully inevitable.
Belle loves a good debate, especially when she gets to play Devil’s Advocate. But this time she went too far, and now she has to make a choice.
If Belle can stay centered and accept defeat with humility and grace, she will find herself on a path that could make a real difference.
Instead of just winning arguments, she could change minds.
I'll see you tonight!

The swords represent the intellect and the value of the truth and they are, by far, the most confronting cards in the Thoth deck. Aleister Crowley clearly believed that the mind can be dangerously destructive, and he’s not wrong. The Swords reflect the different ways our minds can play with our emotions, our sense of self worth, and even how we perceive reality itself. Insecurities, doubts and fears can get so tangled up in our heads that we end up stuck, in a variety of ways.
The Swords describe that process as it escalates, swinging wildly between passionate ideas and crippling indecision over and over again until nothing is left but a fearful mess who no longer trusts their own perception of reality. The best case scenario is a direct confrontation with the fact that the person who hurts you the most is yourself.
In each suit the 9s represent the completion of the Great Work - they are the ultimate success in whatever it is you’re trying to achieve. The 9 of Wands is called Strength, the 9 of Cups is Happiness and the 9 of Disks is Gain. The 9 of Swords is Cruelty. The card depicts 9 swords dripping with blood. Unlike all the other 9s, it starts from a position of failure, then offers hope by telling you that you’re now ready to learn to accept and love yourself again. It’s a different kind of success, but it is a deeply transformative one.
Not many people go through all ten steps of the Swords in order, but we’ve all experienced what each card describes at one point or another. Peace. Sorrow. Truce. Defeat. Science. Futility. Interference. Cruelty. Ruin. Life can do all that on its own, and anxiety, depression and other mental health issues magnify the effect. Then when you add the weight of poverty, prejudice, hateful and divisive media manipulation, a certain lunatic in power right now, and AI throwing a veil of doubt over a world already confused between facts and fake news, suddenly the Swords become a hauntingly accurate reflection of reality. But, thankfully, like the 9 of Swords, the rest of the cards are also potential breakthrough moments.
All the Swords ask you to take a hard, honest look at yourself, and that can be painful, but it’s also why they seem to have the most profound impact on people. They are the light of hope shining once again in a world that has been dark for far too long.
Below is an overview of the ten Sword cards in chronological order. I wrote it in a way that highlights the tragedy of the Swords if nothing is learned along the way. I hope reading it will make you realise you’re not alone, and that you’ve probably come a lot further than you think. Or, at the very least, that things can definitely be worse.
But first is a quick summary of what the aces through to the tens represent in general, devoid of their suit, so you will understand how the Swords have twisted that path. The meanings are the same for all four suits - Wands, Cups, Swords or Disks, and they follow the major stages of a person's journey through life.
Ace to 10 Meanings
The Aces are the pure essence of the suit. They are potential, and exist in the time that comes before the beginning.
The Twos are the first action or decision.
The Threes are the first sign of growth or expansion.
The Fours are about stability and structure. They are the first achievement, like getting your first apartment, or job, or relationship.
The Fives are the first time that stability is disrupted. Reflection is needed.
The Sixes are about harmony and community. They are the second achievement, like buying your first home, or selling your first book.
The Sevens are when you reflect on everything you’ve experienced so far, giving you a better understanding of how you got here, and what you need to do next.
The Eights are where you honestly examine both your desires and your fears in order to build a more stable foundation for the next stage of your journey.
The Nines are the completion of the Great Work, whatever that means to you. A home, a family, true love, being the boss of a successful company that you created. Your dreams have come true. Or, at the very least, you’ve identified what they look like.
The Tens are what you do after you’ve achieved success.
The Swords
Ace of Swords
My eyes are open and I’m ready to face the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Bring it on!
II of Swords - Peace
That was deeply, deeply disturbing. I’m going to need a moment. Then I’ll figure out what to do next.
III of Swords - Sorrow
I can’t decide what to do. What’s wrong with me? I suddenly remember all the bad things that have ever happened to me. Every betrayal. Every lie. Every mistake. Every failure. Every heartbreak. Every loss. The weight of it all is almost unbearable, but I won’t give up. I let the emotions overwhelm me. That’s the only way to get through this.
IV of Swords - Truce
That was exhausting. I’m going to need another moment. Maybe a few. But I’ll be okay. And I'll come up with a plan soon.
V of Swords - Defeat
I can’t do this. What made me think I could? I’m delusional. There’s no point in even trying.
VI of Swords - Science
I can see clearly again! I got stuck in my own head, but I’m in a better place now. I have more to learn and that’s okay, I have a whole world out there to teach me!
VII of Swords - Futility
Dwarfed by the wisdom and intellect of minds far greater than my own, I feel like the imposter that I now know am. I am ashamed and embarrassed. Please don’t look at me.
VIII of Swords - Interference
I’m so close to figuring this out, but I don’t want to make the wrong decision and I’m very, very tired. I’ve narrowed it down to two options but that’s where I’m stuck. This matters. I can’t get it wrong.
IX of Swords - Cruelty
I’m going to fuck this up, I know it. I really thought I could be the one to do this? Me? I’m so stupid. I’m nothing but a worthless, waste of space. Just like my Father predicted. No one wants me there anyway, I’ll just get in the way. I hate myself.
No, wait, why am I treating myself like this? I’ve come so far. I can do this. I won’t give up now. I refuse to.
X of Swords - Ruin
That was dumb. And I was wrong. Again. I am the definition of failure. Fear cripples me. I don’t know what to do next. My mind feels like it’s going to split in two. I can’t take this anymore. I give up.
Should you have the courage to face your fears and take the next step in your journey, you will find yourself in the Disks. The Ace of Disks is a new beginning in earthly and material things. It’s the majesty of the natural world. It’s the feeling you get when you dig your hands into the dirt. It’s the smell of fresh bread. It’s a new job offer, or the first day of Spring. It’s contentment.
This time, you really will be okay.
Bazza is so ready for a situation to end that he’s already jumped five steps ahead of himself, bursting with ideas about what will really make him happy in life.
That’s okay, it’s good to make plans, and it’s wonderful to be so excited about them. But the situation hasn’t actually ended yet. Baz needs to slow down and find a way to initiate a conversation that balances honesty with respect for those he’s leaving behind.
Things may not have worked out, but there’s no need to burn any bridges. It’s important that Baz remembers the lessons and the people who helped him get here.
'The womb of chaos... the darkness of the great sea...' This is how Crowley described the 3 of Swords, Sorrow. It's a lifetime of suffering and grief and heartbreak accumulated into a pain so profound that you have no choice but to face it.
Cia walked head on into that darkness and came out the other side into a world where vulnerability is strength, she knows her own heart and she trusts herself.
The problem hasn't gone away and nothing has changed, aside from Cia herself, but that's enough for the world feels renewed, full of joy and hope once more. She can clearly see what's working and what isn't, and that someone close to her needs her help.
Painful truths will be revealed, but Cia won't be alone, and in the end, those truths will set them both free.
A hard choice was made which led to a painful ending. But once Anon has processed their grief, they can use what they learned to figure out what they truly want.
Reading 1 - It’s a beautiful thing to be so comfortable with someone that you can be your authentic self around them. As they get to know you, they might even take the time to remind you of all the things you’ve forgotten that you’re good at, of your strengths and your victories and of dreams you gave up on a long time ago.
When someone believes in you so much that you start to believe in yourself again, eventually you’ll start to get excited about the future, about where being your true self could take you.
It doesn’t always work that way, especially if the feelings aren't mutual. But in this case, two souls are able to embrace each other with the same unconditional, joyful acceptance. As long as logic, planning and wisdom are applied to this whirlwind of emotions, this could deepen into a profound connection and the start of a new adventure in life!
