starting a collection for my anthropology class can you guys send me more posts like these
Here's a few I have
Iâm about to save you thousands of dollars in therapy by teaching you what I learned paying thousands of dollars for therapy:
It may sound woo woo but itâs an important skill capitalism and hyper individualism have robbed us of as human beings.
Learn to process your emotions. It will improve your mental health and quality of life. Emotions serve a biological purpose, they arenât just things that happen for no reason.
1. Pause and notice youâre having a big feeling or reaching for a distraction to maybe avoid a feeling. Notice what triggered the feeling or need for a distraction without judgement. Just note that itâs there. Donât label it as good or bad.
2. Find it in your body. Where do you feel it? Your chest? Your head? Your stomach? Does it feel like a weight everywhere? Does it feel like youâre vibrating? Does it feel like youâre numb all over?
3. Name the feeling. Look up an emotion chart if you need to. Find the feeling that resonates the most with what youâre feeling. Is it disappointment? Heartbreak? Anxiety? Anger? Humiliation?
4. Validate the feeling. Sometimes feelings misfire or are disproportionately big, but theyâre still valid. You donât have to justify what youâre feeling, itâs just valid. Tell yourself âyeah it makes sense that you feel that right now.â Or something as simple as âI hear you.â For example: If I get really big feelings of humiliation when I lose at a game of chess, the feeling may not be necessary, but it is valid and makes sense if I grew up with parents who berated me every time I did something wrong. So I could say âYeah I understand why we are feeling that way given how we were treated growing up. Thatâs valid.â
5. Do something with your body thatâs not a mental distraction from the feeling. Something where you can still think. Go on a walk. Do something with your hands like art or crochet or baking. Journal. Clean a room. Figure out what works best for you.
6. Repeat, it takes practice but is a skill you can learn :)
I have been in EMDR therapy recently to help with past trauma and like 90% of the appointments are just this post. Which I thought was silly at first bcs I was like "well I know how I'm feeling, I feel bad" but man you have no idea. Literally JUST talking through whatever stressful thing I have going on at the moment and whenever I feel a Big Emotion stopping and acknowledging, naming, and sitting with it makes a huge difference. I've made more progress with my trauma and mental illnesses just doing this in a single year than I have in like 10+ years of therapy.
It might feel silly or pointless at first but stick with it, it really helps.
re: that last post, ive said it before and ill say it again: no one deserves to die (deserving is fake and death is bad) but some people need to be stopped and choose to make death the only way to stop them
I disagree. Pedophiles 100% deserve death.
you are moralizing and weaponizing your disgust in order to construct and justify a category of person you're allowed to murder
what do you think you deserve for this?
Sorry, no person deserves to die, thankfully child molesters and pedophiles aren't human, so this doesnt apply to them.
denying the humanity of people who do horrible things accomplishes exactly three things:
give cover to people who haven't been caught yet by allowing them to use their humanity as "proof" of their innocence
silence any criticism of societal structures and institutions that facilitate those horrible things by putting the focus on individuals who are assumed to be so uniquely monstrous that the ways it was made easy for them are irrelevant
provide a shortcut to dehumanize anyone you feel like killing: simply accuse them of doing a horrible thing
3.a. if you've already established that only an inhuman monster could kill a child, then all you have to do to get people to burn down the jewish quarter is say that jews kidnap christian children to bathe in their blood
3.b. if you've already established that only an inhuman monster could commit rape, then all you have to do to get people to string up a black man you don't like is find a white woman who's willing to point at him while she cries and babbles
3.c. if you've already established that only an inhuman monster could molest a child, then all you have to do to get people to drag gay people behind their trucks is say that since gay people can't have babies, the only way they can make more gay people is by following a nefarious Agenda to "convert" children by molesting them
3.c.a. meanwhile if you try to address the rampant sexual assault of catholic altar boys, you're met with "don't be ridiculous, he's a priest!" (see #1) and with assertions that even if it does happen sometimes, those priests are just infiltrators who don't represent the church and there's no reason to make sure priests and altar boys are never alone together (see #2)
tl;dr: your disgust-based violent politics are not less reactionary than any run-of-the-mill homophobe or racist's disgust-based violent politics
I realized how bad of a take this was after I added my last bit, i apologize for the idiocy i portrayed in my half thought out statements. And I appreciate the way you rebutted this with reasonable statements rather than going hog wild because I said something you didnt agree with.
hey no worries. we've all been there, and anyone who says they havent is either 11 or afraid of their social circle
unlearning our kneejerk reactions is a process, and it's not a linear one. its good to practice thinking before we post, but sometimes thinking after we post just has to be good enough
Story time:
In middle school biology, we did an experiment. We were given yams, which we would sprout in cups of water. We then had to make hypotheses about how the yams would grow, based on descriptions of yam plants in our books, and make notes of our observations as they grew.
Hereâs what was supposed to happen: we were supposed to see that the actual growth of the plant did not resemble our hypotheses. We were then supposed to figure out that these were, in fact, sweet potatoes.
What actually happened was that every single student in every single class lied in their notes so that their observations perfectly matched their hypotheses. See, everyone assumed the mismatch meant they had done something wrong in the process of growing the plant or that they had misunderstood the dichotomous key or the plant identification terminology. And, thanks to the wonders of a public school education, everyone assumed the wrong results would get us a failing grade. We were trying to pass. We didnât want to get bitched out by the teacher. Curiosity, learning, science - that had nothing to do with why we were sitting in that classroom. So we all lied.
The teacher was furious. She tried to fail every student, but the administration stepped in and told her she wasnât allowed to because a 100% fail rate is recognized as a failure of the teacher, not the class. It wasnât even her fault, really, though her being a notorious hard-ass didnât help. It was a failure of the entire educational system.
So whenever I see crap like Elizabeth Holmesâs blood test scam or pharmaceutical trials which are unable to be replicated or industry-funded research that reaches wildly unscientific conclusions, I just remember those fucking sweet potatoes. I remember that curiosity dies when people are just trying to give their superiors the ârightâ answers, so they can get the grade, get the job, get the paycheck. Itâs not about truth when itâs about paying rent. Thereâs no scientific integrity if you canât control for human desperation.

Canât stop thinking about this 236 mile long theoretical PDF. Talked about it on the phone with my friend earlier. PDF longer than the country of Belgium. Forbidden yet technically fully supported 236 mile long PDF. Iâm obsessed.
You know we only ever really "learn" how to bathe in our youth as it is taught to us by our parents and from then on most people kinda just bathe the same way right. And like barring actively deciding to do it the only way most people change their bathing habits is if they bathe with a loved one and get convinced to do somethi g different in the bath bc its cleaner/faster/whatever bc of them. Ok heres the thesis statement. The lack of communal bathing in society is holding us back from discovering The Ultimate Bathing

Hey, I hope this reaches some new usersâŠI like to imagine you Reddit refugees huddled around a campfire, weary from your journey, and what better way to pass your time than learning some of the folklore of your new home?
Above are some stories that we Tumblrites have told each other over the years. May they bring you comfort as you settle into your new home.
If anyone else knows any good tags that Redditors are congregating in, let me know and Iâll add them.

i cant take any of this sex stuff seriously
a bunch of ppl are on here like Oohh Im asexual and i dont even mean this like that at all. i mean like all the whips and funny little sex toys and rainbow colored plastic bullshit is so looney tunes like cant u guys just have regular sex. whose fucking idea was all that
This post is so ridiculous and low-effort I wasn't even going to dignify it with a response. But there's a lot of ignorance and sex-shaming going on in the notes as well, so I'm going to do some debunking. I doubt it will have any effect on the people confidently stating absolute horseshit; but if you're reading those ill-informed comments and wondering if you're abnormal, hopefully I can assuage those concerns.
â
First off: OP, I really don't know where to begin with you, but if you're really that freaked out by non-realistic sex toys, let me assure you that there is also a thriving market for hyper-realistic ones. I have a feeling this is not what you're actually all twisted up about, though.
I know it's difficult to imagine if you have never lived in a world without social media, but all kinds of kinkâincluding BDSMâvery much existed before the internet.
Besides the heteronormativity of it all, it's blatantly incorrect that healthy people don't need lube. Looking just at people with vaginas, lubrication varies with a lot of factors (including hormones, stress, medication, etc.) that are not incompatible with being "normal" or "in healthy relationships". Lube increases comfort, decreases friction, and oh yeah, it also reduces the likelihood of prophylactics (condoms, dental dams, etc.) tearing. So yeah, using lube has nothing to do with being abnormal or unhealthy.
Sexual arousal also varies within normal people in healthy relationships; having trouble getting in the mood does not mean there's anything wrong with you or that you're not into your partner. People also use sex toys purely for fun and variety, even if they don't need any help getting turned on. Needing or wanting to use sex toys does not mean you're unattracted to your partner, and sex toys are fully compatible with healthy relationships.
This is the sex equivalent of saying "I don't use pronouns". When you have what you consider "normal sex", you are still adopting a role. It's just that you think your preferred role is "normal" and everyone else's is abnormal.
â
Also just in general, there comments in the notes about being turned off by particular sexual practicesâeverything from kink to pillow talkâand to that I say: don't do things you don't enjoy. It's that simple. Other people will do those things if they enjoy them, and it isn't your business and it isn't "weird" just because you don't do it.
It's particularly surprising to me that so many of the ignorant comments share a theme of "people only do this because of the internet" and "clearly none of you have had [normal] IRL sex". That's such an antiquated, conservative attitude that I can't believe it's coming from people in their 20s and 30s.
I don't know where you're all getting these hostile and willfully ignorant attitudes about sex. But this is what's unhealthy. Lube, sex toysâthose things are all perfectly normal. Thinking that using them means there's something wrong with you or your relationship, and that "normal people in healthy relationships" don't use those things? That's unhealthy as fuck, and it's blatantly wrong, and I am begging y'all to stop confidently saying bullshit on the internet.
When you are immersed in a culture it is easy for your own assumptions and preconceptions to remain invisible to you. But if you spend some time talking to people with different experiences or learning about even one culture other than your own, you can quickly discover how much about what you take for granted as "normal" or default is not written in stone. (And I don't just mean kink--I mean cultures across history and geography! x x)
And the great thing about this is that it doesn't mean any particular way is right or wrong or something you have to take on for yourself. It just opens your eyes to perspectives and options you never even knew existed.
And suddenly you have more colors to paint with.
It's like saying "I don't understand why you can't just eat normal food" to someone.
Okay. So what's "normal" food, jackass? Do you think your idea of what normal is has been informed by the culture you were raised in?
Truly, Tumblr is full of baby Puritans who think they're progressive.
Anyway, me and my collection of lube, dicks, vibrators and other toys are having incredible sex with my beloved partners. There may be roles involved.
I hope you have whatever sex satisfies you. I sure as fuck am.
LOL at the idea that no one ever heard of BDSM before the internet. The Marquis de Sade wasnât out here in the 18th century on a MacBook in his prison cell.
UH WHAT
UH...... WHAT.........
This entire article is eye-opening, even as someone who has ADHD and has read a lot about it already. There's so much more there than just the bit about the glucose-craving brain. SO. MUCH.
This might have been the bit that hit me hardest, actually:
it would be easy to misinterpret the following scenario as a standoff between two partners: Imagine that your partner asks you to pay the electric bill, and you say to yourself, âOK, I have time to do that today.â But when you sit down to do it, you keep getting distracted. The ADHD brain needs higher stimulation in order to complete this rote task with minimal payoff. Your ADHD brain says, âThat task is way too boring, and I refuse to focus on it. Find something that interests me more, which offers me a bigger dopamine reward, and Iâll work with you.â It doesnât matter that you know you should pay the bill as promised; if your brain wonât engage, itâs an ugly standoff. Perhaps, after a day of procrastination â when your partner will be home in 20 minutes and the bill is still unpaid â there may be enough of an adrenaline rush from a sense of crisis that your brain will engage and you pay the bill.
The ADHD brain and its owner are at odds with one another. Itâs difficult to compel a disengaged brain to engage by force of will. In fact, much of the treatment for ADHD involves learning to psych out the brain, so that it will attend to necessary, low-stimulation tasks.
Appreciating the tug-of-war within that pits intellect against neurobiology increases compassion and acceptance for oneâs hidden struggle.
I feel SEEN. OTZ
Seriously, though. Read the whole thing. It's a good one.
Add to this that it's not just that your brain says "I don't want to"- the prefrontal cortex literally shuts OFF.
Being Ukrainian, born in Russia, with family friends in both countries is an insane experience. A literal distillation of convos from the last few months:
Ukrainians: We havenât had a full night of sleep since February. No running water for months now, and now the electricity goes out. Theyâre bombing us non-stop. They aim for the houses at night, and the city center and offices and schools during the day, to kill as many civilians as possible. I sent my daughter to relative safety in Kyiv, but I donât want to leave my mother, who had a stroke due to war-induced stress and is paralyzed. The hospitals wouldnât take her because they were full of war casualties. She lies in bed and we hope that a missile doesnât strike our building, because she canât go to the bomb shelter. Iâll try to call you next time we get electricity.
Russians: Ugh its so expensive to travel to Turkey right now, we decided to take a two week holiday in Sochi instead. Itâs not as nice but we have to persevere. Oh, whatâs that? The news? I try not too pay too much attention to it when Iâm using my VPN to access instagram and twitter, it just makes me soo sad. You know Iâm not political. Hopefully this little war-sy is over soon, because I have to redecorate my house and Ikea is still closed.
Westerners whose entire political philosophy is âvibesâ and who think cyrillic is a type of salad: yeah, yeah. bombing, missiles, blah BLAH yawn. Frankly the real war crime is being mean to Russians on the internet.
