RWBY Character Music Themes

Hey hey Tumblr FNDM! I figured that with a new season, and a new year, I ought to update that list of musical themes I once had. Music is pretty important in RWBY, of course–it tells as much of a story as the actual show does. In addition, music sets the mood and tells us more about someone’s personality; most characters get their own leitmotif. Granted, that’s what happens in most shows–but we all know RWBY isn’t most shows. :P

So with all that in mind, I went through my pretty hefty collection of videogame and anime soundtracks, along with other music, to choose music that reminds me of the various characters in RWBY. These aren’t lyrical, for the most part (those that do have lyrics should be from fictional languages without a translation); I wanted the music to capture a character’s personality without words. But these are also my own interpretation of what’s canon–not even headcanon. Some folks may not agree with some of my choices, and that’s cool! I’d love to hear what other folks may think.

Most of these will go to YouTube, but some may go to Soundcloud or KHInsider. KHInsider links should have an embedded MP3 file in the linked page to listen to.

I always forget I have a tumblr but here’s some RWBY fanart I’ve been doing since I started storyboarding on the show. Which honestly, dream job I loved it.

Villian! Vi Open starter

“Well Vi, what brings a blade like you to this place” Marina asked as she leaned back.

She hummed and licked her lips before muttering “and what does a girl need to do to get a drop of rum.”

Villian! Vi Open starter

The young woman walked into the club, dust crate in hand and a wide, sly grin across her pink lips. She waltzed to the bar, placing down the crate and pushing it to the bar tender who took it, and handed her a large sum of money. She walked away, calling back to the man.

“If you ever need more… “business”, tell Junior to give me a call, ‘kay~?” she chimed, seating herself at an empty table and surveying the room.

Marina was also sitting in the club at an empty table of her own. In her hand was an old, decrepit book that looked like it was on the verge of falling apart. In the seat next to her was a box filled with books in varying states of “oldness”, a number of manila folders with documents in them, and a small collection of hard drives.

The blue disks dotting her skin flickered and shimmered lazily. At least the few that peaked out from her pirate themed outfit. The slow, rhythmic pulsing matched her rather neutral expression. Despite that, and even though she seemed engrossed in her book, the woman kept glancing around the club. It just so happened that on one glance through Vi caught her eye, and Marina started to look her up and down.

Vi’s multicoloured eyes met with Marina’s, a lazy smile gracing her lips as she waved her fingers at the woman.

Marina smirked at Vi and nodded slightly. The little discs on her body lit up a little brighter and started to flicker faster. The woman glanced at her book briefly before closing it and getting up. She held her arms behind her back as she strolled up to Vi.

The tall woman looked down slightly at the smaller girl and smiled “Well hello there. How’s it goin~.”

“Hiya~” Vi cooed, leaning back in her chair. “Care to join me~?” She chimed, gesturing to the table.

“I probably shouldn’t, but-” she sat across from Vi as she put her book in her lap.

The woman leaned in with a bright smile “-I simply can’t resist a bad girl~.”

A faint flush of pink rushed to Vis cheeks, only to be replaced by a half-lidded grin.

“Whats your name, Captain~?” She teased, referencing the pirate motif she had.

Marina chuckled quietly “I’m only captain of the ship sometimes, but the name’s Marina.”

Though she was a huntress, she was one of the more quiet ones in terms of her exploits. “So might I ask what your name is?”
