I was able to watch the Hazbin Hotel commentary in the blu-ray by Viv, Skye, and Sam and wrote down fun lore bits that stuck out to me! I wanted to share since I know a lot of people don't have Blu-ray

Ep 1
Viv boarded the intro
They avoid using specific dates and time unless it's really important to not trap themselves
Adam was originally written a little too 'real' and was meaner until they got him into his rockstar persona
The joke with how Niffty reacts in front of cameras has existed since the pilot
They like making Alastor shadow travel so they don't have to animate his walk sequence
It seems like Adam is really gone. Viv says he was always just meant to be just in this season.
Ep 2
Keekee wasn't originally in the show and was added after Skye and Sam asked who she was in Viv's old drawings
KeeKee can manifest things and move things around
Vox's assistant's name was originally Eel-than, but Viv got called out about it, 'You mean Ethan??' so they dropped the 'L'. (Viv then jokes that the 'L' is silent)
In Stayed Gone when the radio is put in the store front, it's Alastor's shadow that puts it there
Vox has no friends outside the Vees
Alastor is always standing around menacingly because he has nothing else to do
The camera Pentious hides is meant for a roof. He's really bad at this.
Ep 3
Episode 3 was the first produced
Vaggie knows a lot about hell because she made a point to learn about it. She did her research.
The arrows on the 'serves cunt' board between Carmilla and Velvette were because out of all the cast members, they both serve the most cunt interchangeably
Vaggie's need to be a protector in the relationship is something that's going to be explored through the entire series
Ep 4
The porno at the start of ep4 is a nod to Angel's crime background
Val is an example of how abusers can be very charming
Ep4 is one Viv has had plans to create since the beginning
(I don’t have a lot of notes for episode 4 since it wasn’t really lore based commentary, however it was all very personal and moving. A lot of the people that worked on episode 4 had similar experiences to Angel and worked really hard when writing his story)
Ep 5
…There’s a lot of notes on this one BUT YOU ALL KNOW WHAT I’M ABOUT.
Immediately at the intro to ep 5, Viv says it's the introduction of some of her favorite characters and Sam and Skye both interrupt to say 'you mean THE. THE favorite'. Sam then likens Lucifer to being Viv's emotional support animal that she carries around in a purse and doesn't let anyone else touch.
Viv: I mean, plenty of other people touch him - NOT IN THE SAME WAY
As mentioned above, Lucifer was called Viv's emotional support animal. Viv also wrote A LOT of episode 5
Pilot Lucifer is debunked again, this time with Viv confirming that Lucifer hanging with the overlords was a pre-Deadly Sins thing, and is no longer the case
The rubber duck obsession was because of Sam when Viv instructed her that Lucifer’s room was filled with toys like a whimsical toymaker. When pitched to Viv they reminded her of a veggie tales story so she was on board. From there they all leaned hard into the bit.
Viv also doesn't know which is which between Razzle and Dazzle
Alastor and Lucifer's relationship is 'hands down' one of Viv's favorite in the show, She likes that they have a 'bitter rivalry off the bat' <- (personal opinion, the way she phrased it sounded to me like they won't always have a bitter rivalry but just that it is where they're starting)
Alastor and Lucifer are described as 'egotistical assholes who think they are better than everyone else' and it makes for a good combination
'My poor Lucifer is so tiny. He's only like five feet tall'
Weird Al was the base voice for Lucifer but Jeremy brought a youthfulness and brought Lucifer in a direction Viv likes a lot more
Mimzy was always part of the crew but is also 'not part of the crew yet'
When Mimzy gasps and spots Lucifer, Skye or Sam say 'That's how Viv looks at Lucifer'
The drawings on the wall were ones Niffty started and Charlie drew over
Viv was very specific on Lucifer's expressions when Mimzy was hitting on him
Lucifer is trying hard to be a good dad but he does not care about what Charlie is telling him about the hotel
The scene with Alastor and Husk is meant to be the first big indication that Alastor is not actually a great guy (and they add a sarcastic 'surprise surprise')
Mimzy 'has never done anything wrong in her life' 😂
IN THE LOAN SHARK SCENE they say Alastor is flexing [implied for Lucifer] 'Look at me Lucifer, look how cool I am' 'he does nothing the whole show but now he's flexing'
Lucifer is a 'wife guy' and they were very strict about making sure he had his ring on in every scene
Alastor sending Mimzy away is the first hint that Alastor kind of cared about the hotel, even if it's only in passing
Mimzy and Al are good friends [Sam?'s voice] 'he just sends her away, like he would never hurt her'
The Morningstar family is kind of the heart of the show
St Peter's interjections were all improv by Darren Criss
Heaven is a very 'fake city' and 'alien-y', inspired by Wizard of Oz
Viv has had Emily for a long time and she's meant to be a counterpart to Charlie
[As Charlie leaves the hotel room] Sam: I hope Charlie and Adam passed each other in the hallway
They made a point to put the trashcan in the flashback to show where Vaggie stashed her wings and bloody clothes. They did think of it.
But if Charlie had seen something she's 'not very astute. She's a ‘homeschooled nepo baby'
They studied Batman Beyond for the changing color palette in Club Consent
'Valentino is our moron... actually he's Vox's moron'
Heaven didn't have super clear rules yet in S1 but Viv figured out the types of angels and the hierarchy by S2 (though it didn't change much)
They considered having Vox dim the lights when Val hits angel at the club but decided viewers would just think it was an error and it also would have been difficult to do
Ep 7
What is Alastor's favorite color? 'I think it's red'
Alastor is a really irresponsible 'pseudo father' to Charlie
The Egg Boi conspiracies are based off of Viv's unhinged neighbor
Rosie is a very old character as well
Cannibal Town: Everyone is very charmed by singing. They like singing and dancing. They are almost like a hivemind and follow each other's lead.
Rosie and Alastor both tend to interrupt others and reply before someone is done talking.
Rosie and Alastor have a lot in common and both take the lead.
Rosie and Alastor have always been friends in Viv's old art and 'they match each other's freak.'
Viv says she was glad to show Charlie and Vaggie interact with these 'motherly figures'
Charlie needs someone giving her advice that is nice and gentle and Vaggie needs someone that is badass and will beat the shit out of her.
They made sure when Vaggie and Carmilla were fighting that Carmilla wasn't hitting her with the angelic steel ends of her shoes.
Susan's character was written in as a guest star (that fell through)
Rosie is a big part of the show. They make sure to take good care of her
Alastor does his little dance when singing to the cannibals and they go 'this loser... *singing* he's a loser baby.'
Alastor gets along so much better with the girls. 'He's a gal's guy, a girly pop'
Ep 8
Vox was a last minute addition in ep8 to set up for S2
They were not sure they would get another season so they worked on giving everyone screentime in the finale.
Velvette and Val are texting each other while Vox watches the battle.
The 'funnest' part of the Adam and Alastor fight is that Alastor genuinely, 100%, thought he could win.
Since Pen wasn't dying for good, they wanted to give Adam more weight by showing how powerful he was in their showdown (since he was dying for good)
The 'fuck you' and Jeremy's sincere 'what did I say?' line and is Viv's favorite
They're showing 'hints' of Lucifer's transformation powers
Viv wishes she had more time with Lucifer and Adam since they have so much history
Adam's last smile at Lute was a late addition that they loved
Keekee loved Pentious
You can tell how Alastor is feeling through his eyes
This is beautiful, not just because of the lyrics, harmonies and relatable message, but also because Cinderella (Brandy), One of the Hercules Muses (Roz Ryan) , and Mama Odie (Jenifer Lewis) are singing it. Like we have been blessed.
