Type -pinterest to block pinterest results on Google! You usually don’t have to put in -pinterest.com because pinterest has domains in other countries so I would still get Russian pinterest results. This also works for any site you would like to filter.

Tumblr is an even playing field compared to websites like Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube. Which means its up to us, the users, to spread the word of people we enjoy– the way the internet should be.

I’m not asking you to reblog shit you don’t like. I’m not asking you to reblog everything out of pity. But when you see a post you genuinely like, reblog it.

I think so many people mistake the ‘you should reblog’ message with ‘I’m greedy and all I want is notes’ when it’s really not at all like that.

When creators say they’re discouraged from creating because their posts get no notes, they don’t mean they will refuse to create unless their last edit reaches at least 1k notes. What they mean is that the effort they’re putting into creating something purely out of inspiration and the need to share their passion and creativity with the world is being consumed and forgotten, just like it is on Instagram. Tumblr has changed from having an even reblog-like ratio, or even twice as many reblogs as likes, to being another social media where users consume content instead of sharing it.

We’re not trying to force you to reblog everything or want you to fill your blog with things you don’t like. But Tumblr is built on reblogs and likes. This is not a fast-food company where you can order something, consume it, and then throw it away. The very base of this website is sharing, as opposed to Instagram. Here, likes don’t give our posts exposure, reblogs do.

Notes are not the problem, the fact that you want new content without supporting creators is. So yeah, don’t be surprised if creators stop creating because nobody wants to share their creations.

Alright so this is Connor from the game Detroit: Become Human. I’ve vaguely heard about this game. I only recognize this guy’s face because I think there’s a person who looks like him but I don’t know who it is. But I swear I’ve seen their face somewhere before.

He looks like a good guy. He’s got this color scheme that doesn’t really match his face. Like, the clothes say he’s sad and works hard but his face says puppy. He’s got a very kind face. He’s the kind of guy you would trust to like, watch your kids or something if you went out of town. He’s dressed serious but his face looks like he just wants to have a good day. He’s very childish looking but he’s probably made to do things that aren’t childish. I feel like since he’s in a suit and his face is very soft he seems very sweet. I like his face. It’s got a good cross between Tom Holland and Matt Shively. I like it. He’s good in my eyes. I probably wouldn’t feel the same if he were just wearing khakis and a polo shirt. There’s something just fucking evil about that combination. It just makes me want to trust someone less. I do not vibe with that shit. But this guy is cool. He doesn’t fee like Best Buy, he feels like ‘If I walk your dog for you will can you please make me a meatball sub?’ and then he’s just excited because he gets a meatball sub and he gets to hang out with a dog. It’s like hitting the lottery for him. I know he’s from Detroit or at least lives there because of the game name but just looking at him feels New York. Like, I can just hear Brooklyn the way his mouth is open. Is it just me? I don’t know. He seems good. The kind of kid who likes baseball games and helps old people do things they can’t do anymore. The kind of guy who regularly hires a guy to dress up as Santa for orphans and is just helpful. He’s not a rule breaker. He doesn’t like breaking rules because he knows he shouldn’t, but he eventually does in some way, shape, or form. And I feel like it happens in a big way. He seems like that kind of kid. He’s always trying to do the right thing and doesn’t want to break the law but then something happened. Something big happened and there was no justice and he realized that he was going to have to be the one to step up and fix what happened. And I don’t know what he does or how he does it, but it’s big and it definitely changes him forever. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not but it definitely puts things into perspective for him. I feel like whatever the situation is, the second it happens that’s when he remembers the words 'Bad things happen to good people’ and then that’s when he does whatever he does. I can’t think of a song that would best describe him, he looks sort of soft, sort of dog like which is funny because he seems like he would definitely be a dog person who always does a little gasp when he sees an animal he would like to pet. The kind of guy who’s got someone watching over him like “We can’t go in the pet store again you always want to bring one home.” And he’s trying to convince his guardian or whoever that they have enough room for another pet. This guy adopts a lot of animals from shelters. He’s a good kid. I trust him.

My therapist only recently understood that when I said, “I don’t know how to make this phone call or make this appointment.” I very literally meant I didn’t know what to do. I can dial the phone, but what do I say EXACTLY? What questions are going to be asked? What do I need to have on hand? What if they ask me something I don’t know the answer to?

I’m one of those people that needs very specific and detailed instructions if I’m doing something for the first time.

You’re not inconveniencing them. You’re not burdening them. Call center folks are 1000x happier to speak with someone who is earnestly trying and needs some basic help on super simple things, instead of a pissy long-time customer who demands free shit. 

You are a bright spot in their day. A chance to actually help.

This is a map of Asia. North Americans, you may notice this map is not solely comprised of Japan, Korea, China and Thailand. People in the UK, you may notice India is not  a continent. That is, if those of you who generalize entire continents can even pinpoint India on a map. Indians are Asian, gasp! And not all brown skinned people are Indian, also, gasp! There are an alarming amount of people, of all ages, from all backgrounds, who seem to be unable to process this.

I’m ethnically Asian. Since Asia is an extremely large continent, I could be from any number of countries. I am neither from India, China, Korea, Japan or Pakistan, yet not so surprisingly, I am still Asian. 

Yes, there are commonalities across regions, through the conflation of cultures, colonialism, globalization, transnationalism and movement of diasporas. Sometimes these are all the same thing. Rickshaws, rice and curry can be found across the continent. But let’s not overgeneralize. You can also find Buddhists, Catholics, Muslims and Hindus across Asia. Cantonese Speaking Chinese Muslims! English Speaking Indian Jews! 

No, we are not all the same. Orientalism? (Please look up Edward Said for basic concepts) No thank you. 

Geography, people. It’s important.

What’s cool about Iran is that it falls in 3 different regions of Asia so depending on what part of Iran you’re in, you can kind of get culture shocked a bit. The central and western part of the country is West Asia, the north east is Central Asia, and the southeast is in South Asia.

To the folks wondering about Russia being included, I want to mention that the cultural debates and angst about that has been going on for CENTURIES. While France has been pretty fetishized all the way back from Peter the Great, there is no question that we are not Europe, even with that influence showing really obviously in historical seats of power like St. Petersburg. Nonetheless, the whole country was under control of the Mongols (The Golden Horde) from roughly 1242 to 1480, and that left an enormous Mongolian and Tatar heritage that remains to this day. The ancient Scythians are huge in the cultural imagination as well. And besides… look at the Russians who are outside the standard “Kievan Rus” phenotype (which most folks assume is how all Russians look.)
