i identify birds with a combination of my own bird knowledge and merlin photo id! most us/canada birds i can do on my own but i haven't traveled very far outside that range to bird.

yes i know i am not the only person who does this i just enjoy it, if you want more bird identifying check out @birds-in-posts, @identifying-birds, @birdidentifier, @identifying-birds-in-postss and honestly you can probably find even more pretty quickly

some birds are very intuitively named. looked up a sparrow going chipchipchip in my yard, it was a chipping sparrow. saw a black bird with red wings, it was a red winged blackbird. gray bird that sounds like a cat? gray catbird. the first time i saw a house finch it was perched on a windowsill. Got a new lens for Christmas (well paid most myself, but still, gift to myself!) and only went out once for a bit. It's super cool and I want to go out properly again soon, but I'm not used to it being so heavy oof... Gotta get a proper strap!

A kingfisher made from a circular saw blade, paint pen, and spray paint. I sketched it, @echomary cut it out and added the copper eye, and I painted it. This was a gift, but we'd love to make more birds like this! What birds would you want to see?
