So - about Celia just wanting to file a case as ‘dog’ and not wanting to tag in great detail.

And I wonder if she’s been doing this a lot lately and why?

The complex, very specific tagging system the OIAR has seems to be for the purpose of allowing someone, or something in the future to find these specific cases again. To allow someone (possibly some kind of - archivist) to easily track down a very specific case, person or entity. Or fear.

Maybe the reason Celia is so lax on tagging is to make cases more difficult for anyone else to find? So if they’re searching for that dog, for example, they have to go through every dog case, instead of being able to go to the right one.

And it’s interesting that for such a comprehensive tagging system, there’s no entry for ‘archivist’. Even without the connotations in the Magnus world, anyone who’s ever read M.R. James knows the kind of trouble archivists can get into.

Also, is it just me, or does the meticulously detailed and comprehensive list of content warnings for each episode feel like a tagging system too?

i’d expect the content warnings are just content warnings, but i think the “Topic 1 () -/- topic 2 ()” are definitely plot relevant. since we know celia is so lax with filing, and we’ve heard cases which celia has filed, this raises a question about who (or what) is making the case tags and descriptions we see in the episode descriptions, and about how one gets a misfile. if the episode description tags are the “correct” ones, how off does someone have to be to get a misfile? what’s the acceptable range of tags? what’s an acceptable level of detail?

my headcanons for the pet names the magnus archives characters use

jon - dear. you can just hear him saying it to martin can't you. grab me the salt would you dear?

martin - sweetheart. he really only would break out the pet names when jon is being particularly pitiful and he's trying to comfort his boyfriend.

tim - babe, which he uses on everyone all the time. i firmly believe he's accidentally let babe slip out to elias once and still thought about it at night for weeks afterward. if he's being particularly annoying at the time and knows it, scrumpkins.

sasha - not a big pet name user. people have names for a reason. she'll let a darling slip out every now and again with her partner.

melanie - babe, with the occasional love peppered in when she's feeling particularly sappy.

georgie - look me in the eyes and tell me she doesn't radiate hon energy. maybe honey if she's in public.

daisy - pet names? her girlfriend isn't a dog, thank you very much.
