Did you think Ethnic Cleanser is some kind of special category of person that gets separated away from all the Good People at birth? Did you think there’s some kind of barn full of Genocide Doers that only gets deployed into the general public during world wars? One of the best parts of FMA is how we the audience realize that some of our core protags have made irredeemable choices, and we have to reckon with the fact that they’re still people, with the unalienable rights and qualities thereof. We say “derecha aprieta, izquierda afloja” which just means Right tightens, Left loosens. Just say you hate a version of Spain that’s only in your head and we can end it at that.

i wish people realized that velma / poison ivy / etc. have sexualities that are dependent on the timeline they're in. i've seen velma be straight in some timelines and lesbian in others. same with ivy and being lesbian with comphet or just bisexual.

it just depends on the writers of that specific timeline/series.

Never forget that Steven Universe’s queerness was intrinsically linked in its narrative and themes. It told a story of oppression, mental health, triumph, and loving yourself using characters both metaphorically and literally queer (along with neurodivergent, PoC…there’s a lot of layers to this). Anyone downplaying its LGBT+ rep is talking out of their ass. I’m so tired of this show being the animation community’s punching bag. The discourse around this show hasn’t changed since 2018. Who fucking cares that it isn’t perfect, we’ve heard it all, most agree. But the fact a cartoon for children aimed to be this nuanced, complex, and mature, whilst still being a whimsical cartoon is amazing and exactly what kids need. I know they’ll grow up thankful that they watched it and all the other cartoons following in its footsteps.
