I would like to emphasize that I agree with all of these tags by the way. My post wasn't aiming to pin all of Europe's grotesque racism on the new elections.

A few weeks ago I was at a board game night with some of my old classmates from various mainland European countries. They started talking about how horrible Trump's treatment of immigrants is and how they're so glad to be in Europe where nothing like that is happening right now. I asked them what they thought about the fact that their own governments were complicit in turning the Mediterranean into a mass grave of asylum seekers, and some of them legitimately didn't even know and were surprised to hear that their own governments had enacted policies that caused the deaths of thousands of asylum seekers.

Even here in Iceland, almost nobody has been talking about the fact that some of the far right populist parties have legitimately been talking about wanting to establish detainment camps to keep asylum seekers in.

This post is a few months old now, and the bit about Iceland is now outdated, because Alþingi (the Icelandic parliament) passed the bill approving the detention center for asylum seekers. It will be legal to handcuff and detain children there.

Never let anyone from Europe feed you the lie that racism and fascism are unique to North America in the 21st century.

when i was super depressed - like struggling to eat anything barely able to get out of bed to pee depressed - my good friend asked me every day to send her a picture of me holding a leaf and a picture of a meal i was eating and it helped me significantly

InsNe that dishwashers are more efficient and easier than just washing them manually but they also use less water. It’s a win win situation

ADHD medication does not cure you of ADHD btw.

Just because it may help you focus and be more motivated, does not mean you will automatically understand things. It’s not a “be smart” drug.

But medication helps tremendously so it’s nice.

On a related note:

ADHD medication provides focus, not discipline.

Which is something I discovered after getting back on them after being off of them for a couple months. So I suddenly had energy and focus for things that were previously too tedious, but no magical discipline to do something I didn't want to do, like chores. Instead, I powered through a whole bunch of tedious, non-productive crafts.

The medicine helps! But you have to provide a good direction for the focus, and that comes from yourself.

OH! This is a wonderful addition! Additionally:

ADHD medication can give HARMFUL extreme focus.

I recommend not being on your phone or the internet for a certain amount of time after taking the medication*!

If I wasn't at school or work, and did that, I would spend the ENTIRE day online and end up horribly guilty and mentally exhausted at 10 PM. Sometimes this still happens to me (even without medication). But it's important to keep in mind that this medicated focus can make it hard to divert our attention when in the moment.

Outside stimuli like other humans (lol) are great natural attention diverters! So if your stuck, find a fellow human to talk to.

*medications will vary. I take stimulants.

every so often i remember how awesome the modern interconnected multicultural world is. i grew up getting to hear fairy tales from all over the world. africa, asia, europe, america. everywhere in between. i can have bagels for breakfast, curry for lunch, and ramen for dinner without even leaving the city limits. music and art and philosophy and technology that originated thousands of miles and years apart from eachother have come together and interwoven into something greater than the sum of its parts. its hard not fall into despair when thinking about the horrors but god. god the wonders.
