âItâs so sad that libraries arenât what they used to be đ Theyâre more social gathering places than quiet reading areas, and they have so much digital stuff instead nowâ Thatâs honestly not sad. Itâs libraries adapting to the modern world. We have digital copies and e-books for free lending, as well as lots of online learning services. Nobody studies at libraries anymore, so we house events for people of all ages to peak peopleâs interest. If you stay in old times youâre only gonna get trampled my guy
âMy library has more movies than books in it!â The way libraries work is that when items donât get checked out for EXTREMELY long periods of time, they are discarded. Items in high demand get more copies so people donât have to wait so long for their items. This means that people in your area use your library more for movie lending than books, and your library adjusted to the demand. If they donât have a book you want, talk to the front desk and see if they have it at another branch, or can make note of how that item is in demand. It isnât âsadâ that your library has a lot of movies. Itâs basic supply and demand
PLEASE ask your libraries for stuff you want PLEASE We curate our collections based off of what weâre asked for and weâd gladly add more of what you want bc itâs part of making sure you want to come back. This isnât a store youâre bothering for something they donât stock - this is part of how libraries exist. Please help us grow
Image of a text that reads: In conversation with some coworkers, today, one of them said that homeless people should have to work for their meals just like the rest of us.
I said, "Okay, I know a man who is homeless. He'd be happy to work. He's got a business degree. He would be happy to come clean your house, do your yard work, or help you with your filing, walk your dogs, babysit your kids, or just about any office job. What time tomorrow should he come see you?"
They all just looked at me.
I said, "Mind you, he's homeless, so he hasn't showered in a while and the only clothes he has are the ones on his back because he lost all his stuff last week when ge got picked up for vagrancy and they wouldn't let him go back for his bag. It would be a few weeks before what you are paying him is enough to get shelter and such."
And still they stared at me.
I finished, "See? It isn't that easy. He can't get a job because he's homeless with no access to hot water or clean clothes. He can't get access to shelter, hot water or clean clothes without a job. You want him to work for his meals? Give him a hand out of the vicious circle. Stop pretending that all he has to do is get a job."
Unhoused people are not intruders into our communities, they are our communitiesâ failure to take care of their own.

The core appealing thing about the Mamma Mia movies is that I think most recent movies have lost a sense of camp, but Mamma Mia embraces it. It isnât trying to be anything besides a jukebox musical about having a lovely time in Greece.Â
Does the plot make sense? Eh, kind of.Â
Does the timeline make sense? Not really but it doesnât matter.
Are there some songs that do nothing to further the plot? Absolutely unless someone can justify âDoes Your Mother Knowâ to me.Â
Is the point of the scenes with the Dynamo costumes just to enjoy some spectacle? Yes! Theyâre tacky and glorious.Â
I want to acknowledge that not one person has tried to justify âDoes Your Mother Knowâ as having any relevance to the plot because it truly could be cut and have no impact on the rest of the movie, but itâs there because itâs fun and Christine Baranski has the range
your future self loves you. they will look through old photos of you with affection, not disgust, nor embarrassment. they wish they could tell you stories of your future, of how much youâll change, of the people youâll meet, of how youâll eventually learn to accept yourself, then love yourself. they will read your diary entries and poems and favourite lyrics, heart aching, tears in their eyes. if only you knew...
your future self loves you. if only they could show you. they are living proof. youâll turn out okay after all. they wish they were there to console you, dance with you, and make you write it a hundred times: âI AM LOVEDâ. they will listen to playlists you made, just to experience you again. they will write you a letter - of forgiveness, longing, reassurance. you will never read it. but you will know.
gen z pls pls pls don't fall for the millenials vs gen z bullshit that's being fed to us. nobody actually cares about the stupid things that they're saying millenials are mad about. they're writing this stuff specifically to create a generational divide.
Things millennials are angry about, from a millennial:
Ridiculously high standards for entry level jobs
The increasing inaccessibility of home ownership and higher education without incurring massive life long debt
Deliberate misinformation campaigns spread through social media
Environmental ruin brought on by capitalism
The global rise in fascism
Things millennials are not mad about:
Gen z on tik tok doing fun dances or whatever these articles (written by boomers and gen x) claim
I'm honestly really confused by the conservatives who think that the Seuss estate not publishing 6 specific books anymore is "cancelling them."
No one protested Seuss. No one campaigned for this. There was no public outcry or viral hashtag. A private company made a decision to manage their IP and discontinue 6 UNPOPULAR books that had racist imagery in them.
Between THIS and the Potato Head controversy, it's clear that EITHER conservatives fundamentally do not understand what "cancelling" means, and/or they are intentionally misusing the word because they are angry about private companies making business decisions that dont explicitly cater to bigotry.

the fact the new series of hypothetical isnât allowed to talk about the pandemic just in case people forget it happened is genuinely the funniest thing iâve ever heard
Imagine in later decades someone watched it not knowing it was made in the covid years and they are completely bumfluzzled by what appears to be an inside joke that the show clearly assumes all their viewers would understand.
Amazon Unveils a [Horrifying] Fanfic Publishing Platform
Today, Amazon announced the imminent launch of its newest endeavor, Kindle Worlds, a publishing platform for fanfiction. When I read the announcement, I was horrified, then angry, then sad. I want to take a moment to explain why this is such a tragedy.
This is REALLY IMPORTANT guys. AO3 is so special as a platform. Donât get suckered in by shiny features or whatever!
If you donât feel like reading after the read more, here is the most important stand out of Kindle Worldâs TOS.
âBy using the platform, authors give all rights to the work to Amazon, who can then license your elements to other authors with no compensation to the original poster.â
If you want to retain rights to your work, donât use this site. Stick to AO3.
Does anyone know if this is a preexisting melody (and if so, what itâs from) or if she invented it for this song?
