i dont think KNow Your Meme gets enough credit for how seriously they archive information. i use them as a historical research source constantly. i personally have never found any false information on their site, im sure they make mistakes and i just havent personally seen any because i havent happened to be well-versed in the particular event where the error was made, but the format of their research is extremely citation-heavy. this has been especially true of how they link to tumblr posts that originated memes etc. no one else is keeping track of this information in this way

where's that post of someone getting a letter from their bank like "dear keith we realise you're just taking the piss but every time you venmo your mate for 'al-qaeda training camp' we do have to, by law, fill out a lot of boring paperwork for the police so we'd really appreciate it if you'd stop doing that"
here it is
Covid-19 killed a whole lot of people, changed the world, and gave everyone still alive a lot of trauma in the year 2020. But we don't talk about that as much.
It's 2026. Two of the biggest movies this year are Iron Lung, and Project: Hail Mary. Both of these movies involve a scruffy guy who must attempt to save humanity from an overwhelming existential threat, while being confined to a small, isolated, self-contained space.
Unable to visit or receive aid from others. Rationing the scant resources, because it's unsafe to leave.
Trapped on the ship. Trapped on the submarine. For the good of humanity.
We're all having a normal one, huh.
Are lace-makers ever struck by the realisation that all the holes were already there before they started?
Fanciest lace I've ever made, just need to fill in the edges.
Due to the craftsmanship shown in this picture, the emperor has requested that you make all of his clothes out of that exact lace.

The old school lack of transparency on tumblr is amazing because you assume the people you follow must all be equivalent to you and then you see someone write âI brought my youngest to college todayâ and someone else write âmy mom wouldnât let me listen to Ariana Grande when I was a kidâ and then your head explodes
and we need that! keeps us humble.Â
Then I'm just like WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOUâRE AN ADULT
It goes the other way, too, because WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE A CHILD?!!
I'm 16, that's like, barely a child
I'm in my 30s. You are baby
I'm older than both of you in a trenchcoat.
honestly one of the best things we can do for ourselves is realize that people of different ages than us can still be the same kind of person as us. it's humbling and it gives everyone involved a sense of continuity, and it busts those stupid generational stereotypes media is so fond of.
^^^ God, that. SO much that.
It's why I always laugh when some of the young'uns are like "omg youre old why are you here" bc I have ryland grace brainrot and i have to blog about it, my sweet summerchild. being forty doesn't change the fact that the man lives rent free in my head with his alien rocky best buddy and they will not shut up. (there's also reddie and tendonna and arthur morgan and jintaka a lot of other blorbos up here.)
if i've said it once i've said it a thousand times. the things you love don't leave you as you age. you get new perspectives on them, and they keep you young, bc there is nothing like being 40 and rewatching something you loved when you were 15. it turns me right back into a kid.
and we are all the same. at 15, 21, 30, 45, 60, 90. a fan is a fan is a fan.
Watched a movie last night called Victim. From 1961. It's an interesting picture, but it's important. Why?
It helped change the law. It helped make it so that average folks could see how ridiculous it was to make homosexuality illegal and an arrestable offense. Which it was.
Because at that point in history, that's what happened. Someone found out you were gay and blackmailed you and you either paid the blackmail or went to prison. In the movie there's an older gay man whose been to prison multiple times and he breaks down over the thought of having to go again.
The most interesting part is that the movie was an X Rated film. What caused the rating? No homosexual sex or anything. Just the fact that the homosexuality in question was not demonized enough for the censor's likings.
This pride, my young queers, please, I beg you, watch something historical about what life was like for us. There are people alive today who went to prison for being gay. Who hid in fear of being discovered every single day. And that fear was considered justified because, at the root of it, those people were technically criminals for who they were.
I see a lot of similarities between the world depicted in that movie and the one we are seeing be built around us by fascists as we speak today.
whatâs the rush?
The time will pass anyway
