If you live anywhere near Niagara Falls, please consider coming to the marineland opening day protest! Much to our dismay this place is still open, but the louder our voices are, the quieter theirs become. Remember, Niagara Falls politicians are now questioning the morality of keeping these animals in captivity and we just need to keep pushing them in the right direction!

World Love for Dolphins Day February 14th Toronto
The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and the Sea Shepherd Cove Guardians, and Sea Shepherd USA organised events at different Japanese consulates and the Japanese Embassy in the United States, while Sea Shepherd Ontario West organised one in Toronto.
These demonstrations were in honour of the 20 000 dolphins that are slaughtered each year from May through September in Taiji, Japan. The fishermen use “banger boats” which interupt the sonar the dolphins use to communicate with one another, thus confusing them into swimming into the “Cove” where they are netted off from the rest of the ocean. Usually an entire Pod is trapped, including elders, babies, and pregnant mothers. The Pod is then herded into more shallow waters where the slaughter occurs. Since the film, killing methods have been altered to reduce the amount of blood that ends up in the water. Now the dolphins are murdered by having a metal rod pushed into their spinal cords which is then replaced with a wooden plug that is hammered into the hole/wound. While the inseration of this rod sometimes causes death, it often just causes paralysis, meaning the dolphins are still very much aware of what is happening to them, and to their family members. They are then towed by their tails to the “gutting barge”. Most of them slowly drown while they are being towed. However, for those that did not die via the inseration of the rod, or drowning, they die by being cut open and having their organs removed. In no way is any part of this process “humane”.
While there is some profit in dolphin meat, the FU makes most of its proft off trapping a few live dolphins from the Pod who will then be sent to marine parks all over the globe. In other words, There is a direct connection between the ticket you may buy to a marine park (such as “Marine Land”, “Sea World”. etc) and the brutal slaughter of tens of thousands of innocent dolphins every year.
This is reason alone to boycott all marine parks!

I came across this MTV News episode that follows host Lauren Toyota in her journey to becoming vegan and participating in different types of animal activist events. I enjoyed it because she's a real person who isn't a "perfect" animal activist but who strives to do her best. There are so many animal activists who operate from a really exclusionary point of view which alienates everyone who doesn't live up to their standards and furthers the stereotype of animal activists as obnoxious, angry militants. Worth watching.
I wish enough people knew this to have it actually work. Great idea.

I've seen this idea before, but have never actually seen a yellow ribbon. I agree that the vest idea would be more effective, however there will always be people without any boundaries, unfortunately.

With a new headquarters in Colorado, US Equity firm, Bain, as majority stakeholders and a high profile year in the US it is the 'must have' brand of the season. But campaigners claim the company refuses to meet them to address allegations of inhumane practice and animal cruelty. Now PETA has called for a change of policy and dismissed President Dani Reiss's stance as 'window dressing'.
If you wear or are thinking of wearing Canada Goose, please at least inform yourself of the implications of your purchase.

SeaWorld was once the media's darling. But one of the best documentaries of 2013--Blackfish--has sullied that reputation while highlighting the plight of killer whales in captivity.
When you're constantly fighting against something as socially engrained as SeaWorld or Marineland, it's easy to become frustrated and cynical about change ever happening. Stories like these are good reminders that we can (slowly) move forward.

These are not domesticated animals. We have no right to treat them as such. These are dangerous predators who are extremely intelligent. These are animals who are more like us than we know. They hunt for food and sport. Like us. They live in communities. Like us. These are animals who seek to kill. Like us. Do not treat them like horses who have been domesticated for thousands and thousands of years. They are not our trick ponies. They deserve to be respected and treat as our equals, because in the water, they are not much different than we are on land. They are our equals in the sea. And we should fear them the way we fear each other.

Just because I eat meat does not mean I am a horrible person.
Just because you are vegan does not mean you never cause a need for cruelty in animals.
However, it is never okay to prejudice based on eating preference.

This is a difficult situation; I certainly have an emotionally triggered aspect to my views but also am in a relationship with a (respectful) meat-eater.Either way, negativity and judgment voiced towards meat eaters will only feed the stereotype that vegetarians/vegans are negative, judgemental and preachy.
