Don’t armchair diagnose mass shooters and other killers. The misconception that all violent people must be mentally ill (and the following conclusion that all mentally ill people must be dangerous) has horrible real life consequences for visibly mentally ill people.
Schizophrenic people are 14 times more likely to be a victim of a violent crime than committing one because people assume that we’re homicidal and dangerous and may react very negatively to visibly mentally ill behavior, partly due to all the media portrayals of schizophrenics as violent killers.
50% of people killed by police are disabled or mentally ill (and the victims are disproportionately black or other people of color) because the unusual behavior of visibly disabled and visibly mentally ill people is read as inherently threathening and dangerous.
Please consider the real life consequences of reinforcing the association between mental illness and violence - people are dying because y'all want to blame all evil in the world on severe mental illness so that you can clearly separate yourself from it. You’re harming an already extremely vulnerable and marginalized group of people and it’s time to stop!
I encourage people who aren’t schizophrenic to reblog this. These stereotypes are literally getting people killed and I’ve seen no awareness around this on this website.
Is there anything that makes me happier than the Harry Potter cast basically saying "fuck you JKR" and speaking up against transphobia? The answer is no
Rupert Grint is not on any social media but he chose to spoke out about it as well!
Something to come back to
Title: Something to come back to Prompt/Day: Ron leaves for a mission Tumblr name: Rating: T for teen Brief summary: Before Ron leaves for a long Auror mission, Hermione gives him a reminder of what he will be coming back to Any possible triggering/warning tags: None.
‘You’ve got everything you need?’
‘For the fifty-sixth time, Hermione; yes.’ Ron said, patiently, as he threw his auror jacket on. ‘All my equipment is fine, and we’ve got rations sorted already.’
‘I know. I’m just… worried.’
‘I’ll be fine.’
‘You better be,’ Ginny said, from nearby. ‘I’m counting on you to get Harry back to me in one piece.’
‘Oh, thanks for your confidence in my abilities,’ Harry chuckled, pecking Ginny on the cheek.
Ron and Harry were leaving for an auror mission. Neither of them had any idea how long it would last, and all information about it was classified, even to their partners. Which didn’t sit well with Hermione.
‘Hermione, c’mon,’ Ron said, softly, stroking her cheek with one hand. ‘I’ll be back before you know it.’
‘But I will know it. I… I hate not knowing how you are.’
‘I promise; I’ll be fine. I’m touched that you’re worried, but-’
Hermione threw her arms around Ron’s neck, and kissed him full on the mouth. Reacting without a second thought, Ron lifted the bushy-haired witch off her feet.
‘Oy!’ Ginny groaned as, next to her, Harry rolled his eyes. ‘I don’t want to see my brother snogging someone like that!’
Hermione directed a rude hand gesture at them, as she continued to press herself closer to Ron. She wasn’t normally in the habit of swearing, but needs must. After all; she put up with Ginny snogging Harry (who wasn’t blood related to Hermione, but brother nonetheless), so she deserved the same consideration.
‘Urgh,’ Ginny said, before leading Harry out of the door.
Ron and Hermione stayed like that for a while, their kisses becoming less intense and more comforting. Ron’s newly-grown beard tickled Hermione’s chin softly.
‘Not that I’m complaining,’ Ron said, as they broke apart. ‘But what was that all about, ‘Mione?’
Hermione bit down on her lower lip.
‘Just… giving you a taste of what you’ll be coming back to after your mission.’
‘I bloody love you.’
‘And I love you. So please come back to me.’
Ron pulled something out of his pocket. It was the Deluminator.
‘You still carry it?’
The redhead smiled.
‘Every day, ‘Mione. Every day.’
There’s such a missed opportunity to talk about the positive relationship between Molly and Ron because people have taken what the Horcrux said as implicit truth
the Horcrux knows nothing of Molly Weasley’s heart. It has never encountered her—and no part of Voldemort will until the Final Battle when she Destroys his best solider. It has NO ability to know anything of her priorities or desires.
What we DO see is the clear, repeated indication that Ron is her Baby Boy. And he finds it a little embarrassing, but that’s who Ron is to her. Her big giant youngest son who will always be little. And it makes me so upset that there’s people who really believe she sees him as the last Mistake before Ginny. It just…that’s not how she treats him. It just isn’t.
Molly’s not a perfect mother by any means. But it just breaks my heart that people can see the Horcrux is lying about Hermione and Harry, and we don’t blame them for somehow Making Ron Feel That Way…but I guess Molly loving him the least is fair game for possible truth. And it’s tremendously unfair to her.
Anyway what I wanted to say is I think it’s really cute to think about Molly teaching Ron basic reading and maths and stuff and being like, “Arthur, he’s really clever about problem solving…I’m at least ninety percent sure Percy lost to him on accident at chess the other day.”
And she knows he kinda has moods, and some days she isn’t having it because she has seven kids and he needs to get over it…but sometimes she has a minute to sit with him and kind of spend time with him one on one…and that usually sorts it out. She knows Ron doesn’t always ask for what he wants, and she doesn’t have time to always Force It Out Of Him…but when he does ask, she tries to say yes because he’s so Cute when he gets really excited about something and is trying to act like he’s not.
I just think there’s such potential for cuteness there, and we are Wasting It!!
Now I wanna write something
name one native american intellectual off the top of your head, name one native american actor or actress off the top of your head, name one native american senator, one native american news anchor, or an author or a tv personality or a singer or a poet or a comedian, name a single native american teacher you’ve had, can you? probably not
ok so now think of one native american cartoon character you know of or a sports team relating to native americans whether it’s their actual name or their team logo, or a town you live in or near with a “native” name bet a lot of these things came to you right away i bet you didn’t even have to think
needing native representation in media, education and government are not decoy issues, the commercialization and appropriation of native cultures are not decoy issues, the lack of native representation is institutional oppression at work
White people specifically need to reblog this, I don’t CARE if it makes you uncomfortable–that’s the point. Listen to Native voices about Native issues PLEASE
Where in the World Is Hermione Granger
Ron looked around. “Where is she?”
“Right,” said Ron, looking around. “Where’s Hermione?”
“Where is Hermione?” [Ron] said again.
“Have a Butterbeer.” Ron pressed a bottle on him. “I can’t believe it - where’s Hermione gone?”
“Where’s Hermione?”
Ron looked behind him. “Where’s Hermione gone?”
And in case anyone thinks I’m cherry-picking, Harry only asks this question twice.
Friendly reminder that when Hermione kissed Ron for the first time he was so friggin’ happy that he threw down the shit he was holding and literally lifted her off her feet, that is all, goodbye.
he lOVES HER ALREADY DONT TOUCHME
“Okay, okay, I’m going to tell you what Hermione sees in Ron. A trio is a balancing act, right? They’re equalizers of each other. Harry’s like the action, Hermione’s the brains, Ron’s the heart. Hermione has been assassinated in these movies, and I mean that genuinely—by giving her every single positive character trait that Ron has, they have assassinated her character in the movies. She’s been harmed by being made to be less human, because everything good Ron has, she’s been given. So, for instance: “If you want to kill Harry, you’re going to have to kill me too”—RON, leg is broken, he’s in pain, gets up and stands in front of Harry and says this. Who gets that line in the movie? Hermione. “Fear of a name increases the fear of the thing itself.” Hermione doesn’t say Voldemort’s name until well into the books—that’s Dumbledore’s line. When does Hermione say it in the movies? Beginning of Movie 2. When the Devil’s Snare is curling itself around everybody, Hermione panics, and Ron is the one who keeps his head and says “Are you a witch or not?” In the movie, everybody else panics and Hermione keeps her head and does the biggest, brightest flare of sunlight spell there ever was. So, Hermione—all her flaws were shaved away in the films. And that sounds like you’re making a kick-ass, amazing character, and what you’re doing is dehumanizing her. And it pisses me off. It really does. In the books, they balance each other out, because where Hermione gets frazzled and maybe her rationality overtakes some of her instinct, Ron has that to back it up; Ron has a kind of emotional grounding that can keep Hermione’s hyper-rationalness in check. Sometimes Hermione’s super-logical nature grates Harry and bothers him, and isn’t the thing he needs even if it’s the right thing, like when she says “You have a saving people thing.” That is the thing that Harry needed to hear, she’s a hundred percent right, but the way she does it is wrong. That’s the classic “she’s super logical, she’s super brilliant, but she doesn’t know how to handle people emotionally,” at least Harry. So in the books they are this balanced group, and in the movies, in the movies—hell, not even Harry is good enough for Hermione in the movies. No one’s good enough for Hermione in the movies—God isn’t good enough for Hermione in the movies! Hermione is everybody’s everything in the movies. Harry’s idea to jump on the dragon in the books, who gets it in the movies? Hermione, who hates to fly. Hermione, who overcomes her withering fear of flying to take over Harry’s big idea to get out of the—like, why does Hermione get all these moments? [John: Because we need to market the movie to girls.] I think girls like the books, period. And like the Hermione in the books, and like the Hermione in the books just fine before Hollywood made her idealized and perfect. And if they would have trusted that, they would have been just fine. Would the movies have been bad if she was as awesome as she was in the books, and as human as she was in the books? Would the movies get worse? She IS a strong girl character. This is the thing that pisses me off. They are equating “strong” with superhuman. To me, the Hermione in the book is twelve times stronger than the completely unreachable ideal of Hermione in the movies. Give me the Hermione in the book who’s human and has flaws any single day of the week. Here’s a classic example: When Snape in the first book yells at Hermione for being an insufferable know-it-all, do you want to know what Ron says in the book? “Well, you’re asking the questions, and she has to answer. Why ask if you don’t want to be told?” What does he say in the movie? “He’s got a point, you know.” Ron? Would never do that. Would NEVER do that, even before he liked Hermione. Ron would never do that.”
— Melissa Anelli THROWS IT DOWN about the way Ron and Hermione have been adapted in the movies on the latest episode of PotterCast. Listen here. This glorious rant starts at about 49:00. (via atouchofdestiny)
I get very emotional when I think about this scene. If you notice, before Ron rescue Hermione, she seems very apathetic, without any emotion. Probably hopeless and waiting for death. Then she hears his voice. His voice. The love of her life. And her eyes instantly comes to life. It’s beautiful.
#but also #if anyone should not care about her it should be ron #he’s a pure-blood #it’s a miracle that his family is full of such loving and accepting people #even though he’s not rich he and his family know full well that they should strive to be considered the upper class in the wizarding world #mr weasley could have a job that makes him rich but he doesn’t because he’s not interested and doesn’t care #the weasleys were raised to see people for their worth as a person #which is one of the many reasons i love these books so damn much #because each member of the golden trio has characteristics that every person should strive to have #and the greatest of them #that all 3 have #is their compassion and love
the broken barrier that I have been waiting 10 years for
The barrier is Harry.
Poor Harry since 1991
Hermione: The card says I need to pay Ron £40 for rent.
Ron: That’s okay, luv; you can pay me in kisses instead.
Hermione: *blushing* Oh, that sounds much better-
Ginny: *flips the Monopoly board*
Harry: This is why we can’t have nice things!
Also we all know how one kiss between Ron and Hermione and turn into… more…
How can anyone say Ron doesn’t love Hermione? He is beside himself when she gets tortured by Bellatrix, trying desperately to get to her and is in tears about the fact that he can’t get out and save her. He loves her so much and this right here is proof of that.
it’s 2020 but there’s still so many ron haters, there’s still ron bashing in every goddamn fucking fic, people are still shitting on him in their dramione fics, people are still distorting his character as this gormless idiot cheating abuser
ron weasley is the best goddamn best friend ever and the heart of the golden trio. harry and hermione would flip your skin inside out if anyone dare to even touch him. they are lucky to have him as a friend and they damn well know it
Thank you!!! Ron Weasley defence squad unite!
